A beautiful place to visit, especially in the fall. We walked around to enjoy the fall colors, then headed to Trail Head to Mill Valley Kitchen for a quick snack before heading home. There are options to rent bikes or snowshoes or even play golf or frisbee golf. What a great place and you can't beat the location; so close to downtown Minneapolis.

BEACH: Very clean beach and I loved that they have plenty of shade spots. There's two permanent umbrellas on the beach, one near the park and a few shaded areas by the beach house with nice seating. Bathrooms are located in the beach house and were clean but one women's stall has no TP. Volleyball courts are also well maintained. I was here on a Wednesday morning and it was not busy at all. BIKE TRAILS: all the trails were open except the trails by the Loppet Trailhead Building. I noticed that the MORC trails are better maintained than the actual Theo trails, which are pretty overgrown. The new advanced feature on the MORC trail is SWEET (steep wooden drop and techy rock jumps). 10/10 on that trail and it's easy to loop once you get back there. It's called "Section 6" and I've attached a picture of where it's located. Lots of kids camps going on for mountain biking in the AM but they were all with a coach and very respectful to other riders. I usually avoid this park on the weekends and in the evenings because it can get very crowded, but a morning/afternoon visit is way better!

Cool park, nice trails and buildings to rent out for events. A few trails seemed to lead to dead ends or the cross country ski trails but that was fine. Just walked back and found another one to explore

I walked around the trailheads near Mill Valley and the golf course. It feels appropriately wild prairie and doesn't feel all that massive, but gives you a good amount of space.

I love this park in all seasons but it's especially fun in the Winter because you can go skiing! Bring your own or rent skis at the trailhead. Their equipment is top notch and perfect spot to learn to cross country ski. They offer passes that are good for a few spots in the Twin Cities. It's a pretty good deal with the amount of work that goes into the quality trails they have available. I love going in the morning for an early workout.

Theodore Wirth Park is the place to go in the cities for off-road biking trails. It's also very accessible to get to by bike since it's connected to Cedar Lake Trail which links up to all the other popular bike trails. Some of the dirt trails in the park are more difficult but many of them are doable (if I can do it, pretty much means anyone can...seriously). The bike trails are open year round but it'd take a lot of bribery to make me into one of those hardcore winter bikers with metal wheel studs and frozen snot plastered to their faces. No thanks, I prefer the snow tubing & hot cocoa in the chalet all cozy by the fireplace in the dead of winter. A few tips: - Don't bother going here for off-road biking if it just rained. They close off most of the trails (police order) since they're mostly dirt and the get pretty dangerous when muddy. You'll just end up having to bike on the paved paths (not as much wilderness fun). - Check out the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden in the park (see my other yelp post just on the garden) - Prepare yourself for a lot of up and down hills. This is not the very flat trails like around the lakes. Bring snacks & plenty of water since it's a huge park. - Snowtubing is fun here but having to walk up the hill each time (instead of a conveyor belt bringing you up) makes for one incredible workout. Ugh. I go to Theodore Wirth park year round. It's the largest Minneapolis park and is a great asset for the huge bike community here (I believe we're #1!!!). I like some of the other TC parks better for walking, hiking, or sightseeing, but the biking options here are the best in the cities.

Being that I live just a few blocks away from this park, I frequently walk my dogs here...well, through part of it anyhow. This park is HUGE...and it spreads itself between Golden Valley and Minneapolis. It is miles upon miles of walking & biking trails with some pretty amazing scenery along the way. It isn't uncommon to see a bald eagle, various species of hawks, a mob of deer, or a gang of wild turkeys whilst traveling through Theo Wirth Park. There is a beach, a pond, a creek, picnic area, golf course, quaking bog (I know, cool! Right?), a wildflower & bird sanctuary, a place to practice archery (if you are into that), and plenty of picturesque places to just walk and commune with nature. I often forget that I am still within city limits at times... I would rate Theo Wirth 5 stars - but since the occasional dead body turns up in this park...I had to knock it down a star...

Whoa, Theodore Wirth is one sweet park. It's huge! (Biggest in Minneap) And has a bog - a quaking bog is the technical name (seriously, check out the bog sometime, it's got tamarack trees). For more day-to-day activity, it has a public golf course (the 10th fairway is an illin' sledding hill in fair winter), a pretty sweet frisbee golf (frolf - stupidest ellision ever) course, a lake, and a peaceful and pretty bird/wildflower sanctuary (Eloise Butler). The bicycling here is epic too - part of the "grand round" loop that goes around the city runs through the park, but there's a long and well-maintained off-road bike trail too. This might be the best park I've ever been too (check out the zip line at the playground - it's an iffy ride if you're over 100 lbs, but try it anyway), so it's only right that it's named after the guy who started the whole Minneapolis park system back in the early nineteen hundreds. Thanks, Teddy!

Fall colors started along the golfcourse.

I love this park! It has so much to offer whether a person wants to go as a group or go be at one with nature by themselves. It offers so many areas for outdoor activities that can be enjoyed all year long and yet is so close to Minneapolis.

This is a neat little park that is located at the end of a street near some town homes. There is a…read moreon of street parking available near the park and the park can be accessed from 2 sides. It is not a very big park and features a picnic shelter with picnic tables, 2 half basketball courts, a playground area, a small pond, and some green space. The shelter is small, but in decent shape. The playground area is on a bed of wood chips, has benches along its perimeter for caregivers to sit, and has decent equipment. The playground equipment includes a bank of traditional/toddler swings, a see-saw, a barrel spinner, and a super scoop. Th highlight of the playground equipment though is its jungle gym that is very colorful and features a bunch of slides. The park's two half basketball courts a pretty nice and in great shape. One of the court's rims can be lowered, which is nice. I could have dunked on it if I had a ball with me. The court has some chalk writing and is home to a hopscotch board. You will find a nice pond off to the side of the basketball courts, along with some benches to sit, relax and take it all in. It is a neat and chill spot. All in all this is a pretty good park, it does not have a bathroom, but it appears well maintained and does not see o have many visitors. And the few visitors that it gets are from the surrounding neighborhoods. You will find a couple of small patched of green space here that are suitable for a picnic or playing a little game of catch. There is a lone picnic table sitting on one of the patches of green space too. This is not a destination park, but is a nice spot to visit if you are in the area and looking for a park to hangout. It has a very laid back and relaxing vibe and was a nice place to just hang out and pass some time.
