Besides the skyline view- i really don't see the appeal of this place. It seems run down and a tad dirty compared to other park and rec areas I have enjoyed.

This is a beautiful park with a great view of the city. We came for the Brew Review and couldn't have asked for a better day. It was sunny and 70. S'mores were being made in the small pavilion fire places. The parking lot was off limits for this event, otherwise they have a decent parking lot. There were plenty of biffys. I didn't actually see a restroom at this park so I'm not sure if they have restrooms outside of events.

Love this park! I walked through the trees and listened to the water many times as a child here. I remember fishing with a homemade cane pole for carp on hot summer days. Walking down to the river to see the paddle wheel boats load up with passengers. Watch the seasons pass on the river from the banks and breath in the sunset beauty of Minneapolis. A gem of North East. Walk over to river place or simply sit on a bench and enjoy the day. There are restrooms, fire pits, playgrounds, parking and lots of pet friendly areas to get out and enjoy nature right in the heart of the city. If you have not been here check it out anytime of year. Walk down to the river and imagine hundreds of years ago what it would have been like. A place to check out and go back to over and over again.

Met a friend for a picnic, little did we know that it was going to rain tonight. Luckily the rain didn't last too long and lucky for us; there were some shelters to choose from. This is a great park for picnicking, playing at the playground, walking down by the river, laying out on the big lawn, hosting a small gathering or strolling down one of the many paths. I had never been before, but will make it a point for a return visit. A little shocked that there were not that many people out and about even after the rain stopped. This is a big sprawling, quiet park. Nice little playground with swings, slides ( even a wide one), monkey bars etc. Great spot with great views of the city.

Boom Island is a great place for a jog and a view of the city.

This is a great place to enjoy the outdoors in the heart of Minneapolis. Go for a jog along the river, ride your bike on the many paths, set up a picnic, play a game of frisbee, lay in the grass with a good book, or take your dog for a walk. The possibilities are endless thanks to the size of the park and the vast open space. Did I mention that I really dig this park?

I think I was here years ago to get on a boat that cruises up and down the Mississippi. This park has a couple of covered picnic areas. We walked around the paths but were disappointed to find the bridge closed for maintenance. There was a good amount of walkers and bikers and even saw a tent sent up at river's edge filled with a couple just enjoying the peacefulness. There's a pathway that leads across a small inlet of water where you can see people putting their boats into the water (or taking them out). This same path takes you up to the main road and across the river to more great paths on the other side. The park seemed like it could use some TLC on trimming back some bushes from sidewalk paths and weeds elsewhere. It was a nice afternoon stop. Note the lots are pay.

Good for walks - not much shade as the trees in the newly developed areas are young.

It spans 34 acres and is named after Charles Loring, an American businessman, miller and publicist who was the first Minneapolis Park Board and considered the "Father of the Park System" in Minneapolis. The park has an astounding flower garden. It was very pretty. You will also find a very nice lake/wetland here. It has seating and is very soothing. The lake is home to many animals. Fishing is welcome at the lake. They even have a fishing pier. The park has a full basketball court and a half-court basketball court that are in great shape. The park's horseshoe pits could use some TLC, though. The park is home to about 10 pits. If you are a pickleball player, then the park has a couple of nice courts to play on. Other park amenities include tennis courts, shuffleboard, and two playground areas on wood-chip beds. One area is fenced in and is for smaller children. This area has a bank of swings, a saucer swing, slides, a modern merry-go-round, a bebble bridge, and a jungle gym. The other playground area, for older kids, has a climbing net, balance beam, slides, pebble bridge, and rock climbing wall. This area is not fenced in. I have seen a lot of parks, and this is a nice one. They host events such as movie screenings, ice skating, and lunchtime concerts. You can easily spend half a day here. I really enjoyed my time here and am sure that you will too.

I'm new to discovering The Trailhead at Theodore Wirth Regional Park, but believe me when I say I'll be back many more time. In the winter, they offer cross-country skiing and lessons. (You can rent a full set of gear for about $30- no need to have your own to experience skiing! They also have à la carte options for cheaper if you only need poles or boots, etc.) Besides skiing, outdoor winter activities also include snow tubing, snowboarding, snowshoeing.... You name it. (I haven't been in fall or summer yet, but I also hear great things about their mountain biking and trail running options.) Inside The Trailhead, there's food and drink concessions, ample seating, lockers, bathrooms, and even rooms for rent. The last time I was there, a family was hosting a young child's birthday party in the multi-purpose room. Altogether, there is an amazing assortment of services here to come and check out. Can't wait for next ski season!

They also didn't have any restrooms available during my visit, (I think they were being remodeled) so there was a huge line for the porta potty on site. The falls are beautiful, and there's a short hike down the stairs to get a view of the lower falls, but you have to crawl over a short rock wall to get closer to the falls. It's not a huge waterfall, but it's pretty. There's a short hiking trail along the stream that goes around the park. It's flat but I don't recommend it for wheelchair users. Maybe strollers can make it, but go at your own risk as I'm not sure how you could access the trail from the top. I'm sure there's a way, I just didn't explore the entire trail to find an accessible route and I had to take stairs to go down and back up.
