Which is why small distinguishing details matter. Amore has some pluses over the competition- they use pieces of chicken (not chicken steak) for the Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza, are willing to do 1/2 & 1/2 on specialty pizzas, & use a generous amount of cheese in the Italian Calzone. What's disappointing- the lack of taste in the pizza & sandwiches (like they're not using salt). Pizza sauce was bland & sweet, which made the Hawaiian Pizza & Meatball Parm Sandwich a bit flavorless. Toasted Garlic Cheesesteak- nice roll, good chopped onions, but season the meat please! And swap the mozzarella for more American or provolone (stringy pizza cheese just doesn't work well). Amore Loaded Fries at $8.50 was a rip-off- small portion of crinkle cut fries w/ not enough topping.

With 2 it was barely enough for our family and we've always had a ton of leftovers. Another time a pasta with sausage meal came without sausage and I called and they said they'd credit my card, nope. Also specifically called to order a pizza to avoid the service and credit card fees yet somehow paying with cash I still paid same price as I would've online that included the fees.

Meatball Parmigiana Sandwich- good-sized meatballs, red sauce, on tender toasted roll under a thick blanket of cheese! It was really, really good! Pepperoni Calzone- this baby had some heft! Extra heavy dose of GOOD-QUALITY cheese w/ pepperonis throughout, marinara on side, crispy edges, golden brown top, bottom that stood up pretty well to weighty ingredients. But the c'est une tuerie was the Cheese Sacchetti. Have Italian mother-in-law who will only eat ricotta straight from container- despising grainy, dry texture that sometimes happens once baked inside stuffed pasta. The sweet, soft, milky texture of ricotta was maintained during cooking process; fresh pasta purses w/ best cheese filling I've ever had, tossed in Rosa sauce, generous serving, especially for a filled pasta! "Side" salads packed to go- super fresh lettuce popping out the container- huge! Our waitress Jenny showed attention to every detail, from how I wanted leftovers packed, to being sure every dish was brought out at its peak (no food sitting around under heat lamp). Can't account for why experience was so much better this time, but to say Chef Marco was in driver seat & some staff just prepare dishes w/ a little more perfection. Could tell Jenny really wanted us to love this meal so maybe her oversight helped as well. Italian heaven. Will be here on the regular if this is maintained.

The staff was pleasant & went out of their way to present me with a good lookin' pie!…read more Unfortunately, the food just wasn't tasty. Buffalo Chicken Pizza, counter-style, heavy on hot sauce & not much else. Albeit, hard to make this pizza a crowd pleaser, but I've had better versions that used actual chicken (not chicken steak) & at least a hint of blue cheese to balance the vinegary taste. When combined with a runny, flavorless, Ranch = a processed, 1-dimensional, tasting pizza. But I would never judge food quality on this alone. Was disheartened to find the family sized Italian Calzone even more disappointing. Generous in size & had a good bake on it, but a smokey-strange taste to meat that overpowered any enjoyment. Seems silly to say "processed" again, when these meats are just that, processed, but bad processed, not good processed. If it WAS a Calzone (don't recall seeing any ricotta) it was hard to tell as the ingredients didn't call that out. The homemade Cheesesteak Eggrolls were the bell of the ball, but paired with a weird selection of processed sauces, none of which a compliment. It takes seconds to whip up horseradish aioli making these a crowd pleaser. My advice, re-examine choice of product vendors & make a few more things in-house. It was beautifully presented but nothing more disappointing than something that looks better than it tastes.

And our experience yesterday here it was- Jumped onto Contessa's website around 5:30pm to see next available reservation as a 8pm bar slot. Took it and eagerly anticipated!! We arrived, were greeted readily and repetitively at the hostess stand. Graciously cared for in all the asks of our seating. We sat at the last two seats, facing the bar. The layout of the restaurant mirrors United- but the paint and pictures and plates give it a new look but fancy Sunday dinner feel. Decor upgrade for sure, however we sat in eyeshot of an eyesore. A very large printer with reams of paper sat behind the bar. Paperwork and office work is not for the customers dining experience. Our bartender/server was conversational, helpful and made a great mocktail. What a wonderful selection of mocktails! We tried the Apple Pie Old Fashioned and the Grapefruit Sour. Sweet and pretty. These will make wonderful cocktails once they are licensed. The rosemary sprig in the Sour hit your nose with just the right aroma. We moved to starters. Oysters- No, ran out. Ooooof. So we moved to the Beet Carpaccio and Ricotta Toast. These arrived slow. Our hunger outpaced the food...there was delay. The beets were bright, soaking, clean. This marinade gave veg and not earth. The fennel was a delicious accompaniment. The ricotta toast was tasty! The ricotta was light, airy and sweet. Gave Italian french toast. Yet would've preferred a square of focaccia, rather than a toast point. The main event brought surprise. I ordered the Cappeletti with the shaved truffle and my husband the Duck Ragu. After about 15 minutes our server returned. No Cappeletti. Bummer. However, was offered a Pappardelle feature of chef creation. A pappardelle wheel with truffle and cheese. Gave it a go. Orders up- Mood down. The pastas al dente, cooked perfect. But that was the notable success. Both dishes were lacking depth, brightness and originality. They tasted alike, not in flavors, but in soul. The Pappardelle was just there. Nothing popped. Except the charred corn. The Duck Ragu, it was just not good. Chicken pot pie campanelle. The duck flavor was lost. Plates here are small overall, so the pricing fits the portion. Which is nice to actually eat your meal and not leave with a take away. We'd love to give a Yes to Contessa, but for now an Italia-No. Rounding up for Yelp, but wanting to score a 3.5. It's the entrees, they need flair, flavor and focus. Don't be afraid to be bold. Like art, as an original painting rather than a print. Let's learn what Contessa can be!

For our first visit, we decided to share a variety of plates--and loved every single one (even a few not pictured!). We're already planning to come back with our girl group to try the multi-course tasting menu. Honestly, each dish was better than the last, and I can't wait to explore more of the menu at this new Pottstown gem. As a fan of Rivertown Taps in Phoenixville, I was so excited when I heard about this new spot opening--and it did not disappoint. I'll definitely be back and can't wait to see what's on the menu next season!
