Love the vintage phone booths that they have there (great for photo opportunities), the train room (lots of model trains, plans for the alleged SoCal to NorCal train route) and circus trains too for the clown enjoyers, as well as sports ball memorabilia and merchandise for purchase all around. They have street parking and their own parking lot so keep that in mind. We went right after a Dodgers game so it was quite fisted, but a member in our party was able to secure a table for us while we waited in line to order. Probably 30 people or so ahead of us, but we were able to order in around 15-20 minutes so it's a real testament to how super efficient their cashiers are. Especially since they get all the food ready for you then and there to bring back to your table on a tray. Huge kudos to staff. Crazy extensive menu ranging from breakfast foods, several forms of French dip sandwiches, various sides, daily specials, beer and wine, and other desserts. There's something for everyone here, I feel. We got the: 1) Potato and Macaroni Salad: -I'm a SUCKER for salads that aren't green salads and my boyfriend is too, so this was a must to order. Nice sour tangy taste (good mustard-y mayo flavor) and generous portion of both salads. Great side to our sandwiches. 2) French Dipped Sandwich: -It was my first visit here, so I just got their standard beef dip, single dip on a French roll, but you can be adventurous and really mix it up. My boyfriend got a lamb dip on rye, wet style, so the variations are truly unique from the standard. -As for my standard beef dip, super simple and delicious. Good ratio of semi thinly sliced beef in a French roll. The single dip added a good moist layer to the beef, stopping it from being dry and also soaked into the bread as well. Beef absorbed the au just nicely and you get a small cup to dip in as well to your heart's content. -And now the kicker, YOU GOTTA use their hot mustard. It's so good that they even sell bottles of it. Good strong kick, hits you right in the sinuses and I even teared up from adding too much, but it's so so good. I also got to try the cheesecake and tapioca pudding, which were standard but solid desserts that hit the spot after a deliciously savory and umami filled dinner. I love that they have unique items on the menu too, like the pickled pig's feet (that my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed and which was a huge generous portion that had to be taken to go), and pickled eggs and much more. I didn't want to order too much and get too full, so definitely next time, I'll order what I didn't get to try the first time!

I have had Philippe's original on my list for 7 years already lol…read more We finally made our way out here to give them a try. The good: free parking and how fast they get through the big line. The bad: everything else Employees there but neither friendly or unfriendly. Inside could most definitely use a good scrub down. Food: got beef dip The sandwich was edible but not memorable. The meat had zero flavor and the dip tastes & looked like brown salt water. Very disappointed to be honest as I had such high expectations. Glad I got to check it off my list but most definitely won't be returning.

Review based on take away:…read more We decided to try out this well-known spot for dinner and ordered the kimchi brown butter chicken sando,Honey walnut shrimp sando, and curry cheese waffle fries. I'll discount the ever so slightly soggy bun because this was our fault for waiting about an hour after taking delivery to enjoy lol. The winner of the bunch was absolutely the kimchi brown butter chicken sando, a close second is the honey walnut shrimp sando. The kimchi and mac and cheese balance perfectly and I appreciate particularly how well the mac and cheese pairs with the chicken!! I thought it was going to be a heavy sando - bunch each bite was actually quite refreshing! The fries were extremely well flavored and dipped in the curry sauce was a flavor explosion! We even tried the curry sauce with the sandos - highly recommend!!

A paired with some super super soft bread? That's a combo that will win me over any time. Don't forget to add their sauces! Fruit sando is a MUST if you're missing Japan. Sour strawberries paired with sweet cream, what's not to love? Egg salad sando- this one was delicious but maybe I could skip on it, I wish the egg salad was just a bit creamier. Menchi Katsu plate- portion size was crazy first of all. The burger was nice and crisp on the outside, and tender within. Seems like there is a common theme with their meats here. The service was also amazing and the cashier is super friendly. I wish there was more seating ! But it's a small quaint spot, so I kinda get it. Definitely wouldn't go with a party bigger than 4 people if you all want to sit together.

Luckily, while out in LA in close proximity to Chinatown, the husband was reminded of Little Jewel. There was no question where we were headed next. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in and handed some menus. We were told to take our time, which was needed since everything sounded so good and the husband kept changing his mind on what to order. We finally settled on the Spicy Creole Jambalaya, Craw Mac Deluxe and The Crabster. It all came out hot, fresh and so satisfyingly delicious! The spice level was perfect. Portions were generous. We had initially planned on having beignets but did not have any more room -- even the dessert pocket was full! The atmosphere is very relaxed. They have several tables in the main dining area and the bar section. Orders are placed and picked up at the front counter. Everyone is super friendly. Parking can get a tricky in Chinatown. There are several flat rate lots if you're planning on spending some time. Metered parking is best for short term visits if you can find it -- we paid $4.30 for an hour.

Since we were trying to eat at as many places without feeling food coma'ed out, we ordered 1 Corn Beef Silog. Calamansi Tonic Espresso and Black Mamba. The Corn Beef Silog was really solid, it was also deep fried in a Panko Crusted outer layer which is their take on a Croquette. We particularly like the crunch it adds to the dish. But yeah it was the corn beef has we were looking for mixed with the good 'ol garlic rice and sunny side up egg. The vinegar they used was a lot stronger than I thought and I think they could do without it. The tonic espresso grew on me, upon first sip, I could taste the tonic and I haven't had tonic before so I wasn't feeling it. Until I mixed it and it got a lot better. What was really cute too, is they have pop up vendors and it was a bread and dessert vendor that are right across the counter. What caught my eye was this apron that was a collaboration between Garden and Seeds x Lasita. It had so many pockets and it went from a short apron to a long one with just a zipper. I bought this for the sole purpose of wearing it as an accessory as Tan/Brown pairs well with black and white clothing. Staff was so nice and helpful when ordering and even inquiring about the apron since there was no price on it. Hopefully we'll be back and can catch them during their dinner service!
