I loved the fact that a) he responded at all vs just ignoring the request, b) was upfront and honest about his timeline vs just taking the job and overextending himself. Once I told him that we were in no rush, and would be happy to wait, he proceeded to text back and forth with me helping me get an idea as to what the job might cost. He made recommendations about plants, etc....and all this without officially having secured my business. Towards the end of July, I reached back out to see what his timeline looked like. Again, he responded almost immediately. He apologized for not getting back to me sooner, and said he would come out to measure the area, and discuss the job in more detail. In my mind, he had absolutely nothing to apologizing for. He set a date to come out, came out exactly at the time he promised, and helped us figure out what would look good. He provided a written, detailed estimate, which he adhered to...we paid exactly what he quoted. On the day of the job, he showed up as promised and on time. He laid out all of the plants, and allowed us to move them around several times until we got everything exactly the way we wanted it. His team worked quickly and neatly. The end results are amazing! Pros - The quote Fernando gave me was fair, and he and his team did a decent job…read more Cons - If he agrees to do the job, be prepared to be ghosted or have your time wasted. He came a day later than he told me he would, without telling me ahead of time. Replaced my mulched area with gravel without telling me. He also left a giant pile of gravel on my lawn for a full day, killing a big patch of grass. I needed paver bricks laid, and he rebuilt pillars on the patio without telling me. While rebuilding the pillars, he cut the wire that was connected to light fixtures that are on top of the pillars. Fernando would not admit that he cut the wire, but I confirmed with an electrician that there is no power running to the end of those wires, so they were cut along the way. After weeks of calling Fernando and asking him to come out to take a look at the light fixtures, he either never responded or ghosted me. Stay safe and spend a little more money to have work done by people that won't damage your property and won't waste your time.

Conlin has damaged trees in our backyard, destroyed our wooden fence, and damaged our grass and…read morehelped themselves to our lawn. They do whatever the person who pays them asks them to do with no concern towards the adjoining neighbour or the law. So they drilled rock into the back of our neighbor's yard to make it more dry during the pandemic and took out every single one of our fence posts ($2000 to rebuild fence). They leaned over our back fence and trimmed our back trees to the point that one became a tall stump with no top (it still exists, as a tall growing stump). And, they've trimmed my beautiful Maple tree on our side yard to the point that it started to lean on our garage, once again with their workers leaning over the fence line. I had to hire a service yearly to try to balance out their trimming, but they lean over my fence line about 3 feet into our tree and leave the tree branches on our side. I don't know if they know anything about Illinois laws regarding tree trimming--I'm guessing not. The icing on the cake was seeing their men on my driveway treating my front yard, without my permission, on camera, only because my neighbour (who has residency in Turks and Caicos Islands) asked them to put weed killer on my front yard. Unethical company. My tree company will not touch trees belonging to the neighbors. They've also installed a sprinkler in our front yard (?!) I had to put in a front yard fence to keep them off my lawn. I now have outside cameras and I've given them notice that I'm recording their workers (who of course all don't speak English no offence) trespassing on our yard. I get it -- neighbors can be not so great, but it's amazing what this company will do, in the name of making a buck. It's not like any of this would have happened if a normal landscaping company with ethics was doing the work. Something really is "off" re this company and when I try to speak to their workers, none of them will speak to me. I have to contact the owner every single time via phone or email. Who leaves workers with a tree elevator that lifts them up, with no English speaking person on the crew, and then they're lifting the person over the neighbor's fence to trim the neighbor's trees and I have zero time to even stop them. They only stop, actually, if you start videotaping them. And, then, they wait, and continue, if they think you're gone. Anything goes!

We've had stumps removed before and the crews have always left too many roots in the ground, but not John. He got rid of everything that needed to be ground up. He showed a lot of respect for the other plants, sprinkler system, neighbor's yard, etc., and made sure not to cause any additional problems. We appreciate the information he provided about the best ways to deal with the remaining holes in the ground in our lawn and garden areas. Before I called him, I toyed with the idea of doing it myself - renting a stump grinder from Home Depot, hauling it home, etc.. There was no way I could do that easily. The price was about the same as renting - minus the hassle.
