It started with a simple landscape job I needed done remotely, Michael and Nina were local to the job site. Michael knocked down some weeds in a field, about an hours worth of work with the right tools. He completed the work in short order.
The second job was an interior demolition of a home we recently acquired that needs quite a bit of work.
Again, Michael shows up and does satisfactory work filling the dumpster.
At this point I'm interested to know if he can handle more work. He says he can. We talk and agree he will complete the renovation of the home just demolished. Sheetrock and new floors, new electrical and plumbing, paint, install new bathrooms and kitchen.
Things started okay and I got to know them both better. And my intuition was telling me something was off. After the first two weeks of work the problems and delays started. This increased in frequency and severity over the next several weeks.
So one day I show up unannounced. To discover no one is on site or has been for over a week. All his tools are gone and the job site is a mess. Debris and disorganized materials. The Sheetrock is not hung and the wiring is disconnected from the house. No wire to the power pole.
Michael actually called me before I had the chance to call him. To ask for an advance.
I didn't tell him where I was and asked him about the progress. He says the Sheetrock has been hung mudded and sanded, he has painted and a licensed electrician has inspected the wiring.
I confronted him. He lied some more. Even promised to fix things. So I paid for a complete job, and got an uninhabitable home with no electricity.
I have been looking over his work for th last two months and I should have let him go because of the low quality which he successfully hid with problems and delays, but the lying is unacceptable.
Not worth my time. That's what I can't get back. Best three words to describe my frustration. Worst experience ever. Good luck if you decide to work with Michael. read more
