Its a small store, I guess if you know what you need just buy and go! but do not go there with any questions, help, product test, or anything just to pay for what you know you want! Tiny yet very convenient store. Came here on a relatively busy Saturday afternoon and was greeted by two SA's/MUA's in a friendly manner. The young man who rang me up ensured he had my MAC Rewards info in so I could get my discount during the 25% sale they were running. Hi Guys, I wanted to let you know about my fantastic experience with Jilisa at the Mac store in Grand Central Train Station. I visited on either 21/22nd November. I am a frequent shopper at MAC so I went in to buy some foundation actually to use on my wedding day the up-coming weekend. Jilisa, assisted me in picking a much better colour and texture for my skin tone. She was extremely helpful and really informative. I really liked how she was so attentive without being pushy at all. I'm a MAC fan, most of my make up is from this store. There is normally a lot of people and the reps are always busy but today things are pretty quiet and I love it. Mac products are good but I really just like their lipsticks. The item I wanted wasn't on the first floor so the sales reps decided to go all the way to the 4th to find what I wanted. Visiting NYC from SF for my cousin's wedding, I wanted to challenge myself to some new makeup. I always shop at MAC because they teach me new techniques, because I really suck at make up. Read the yelp reviews, and we were staying at the Waldorf, so OK, lets go here... THANK YOU HAMLET! He knew exactly what I needed, taught me different techniques, and reviewed with me many times so I can "show up" the big day. I have extremely sensitive skin and he assured me how all the makeup there was hypoallergenic and mineral based. I did not have any breakouts with some of the new products I purchased. Hamlet said "you need some lip color". I was like "No, I am extremely allergic to lipstick and glosses, and my dermatologist said to never use anything other than my vaseline li cream." I have tried many many lip stuff and ohhh do I pay for it later. Chapped, blisters, you name it. Hamlet said, "Trust me, try this for a few hours and let me know how it goes. All mineral based, and not sticky at all; you will not break out." 3 hours before the wedding, where was I? Back at the MAC store buying the very fist lip gloss that did not destroy my lips, even to this day!!! To all you sensitive skin people, go to MAC, your skin will stay healthy!! I hardly ever leave Yelp reviews, but I'm logging on to say how thankful I am for Ashante's help! I was traveling to present at a conference, and stopped at MAC for some last minute makeup. Ashante took her time to pick out some basics that were perfect for me. A couple weeks later I had to return, because I'd lost the perfect lipstick that she had picked out for me. Despite the hustling environment and small retail space, there is one thing that surpasses every possible con... ERICA! I split my time between New York and London and first encountered this MAC sales rep three years ago during a makeup appointment for my birthday party in Atlantic City. Not only was she cognitive of what kind of look I was expecting, she added a diligent amount of expertise and professionalism. Seriously, my makeup never looked better. Since then I always went back to the Columbus store when I was in the city... Then she moved the to the Grand Central store and I panicked!! Location gets 5 stars. As for the rest, it's a very small space, so I definitely wouldn't go there to have extended questions with the MAs, or to have makeup applied. Seriously this place is the best and very close to my job. To begin with, I'm a basic make up kinda gal...ask me to do a smoky eye and I'd have better luck speaking Greek...lol. I went in to be color matched one day and that's when I met SHY...she is F A N T A S T I C!! Her customer service is off the charts and she wastes no time pulling out her brushes to show you how this or that will go perfectly with your skin tone. Heck she's even going to help me with the smoky eye thing!! I've been to many places where you sometimes are ignored by staffers or stalked by them you won't get that here. So there I was, staying at the Westin near Grand Central and I needed to look amazing for a night out with my friends. This is the age of social media, so I knew the girls would be snapping away. I called this location since it was near the hotel and they said the makeup applications are 50 flat, but you sometimes get a free 16 mascara thrown in the deal. I was sold. I saw Manana, employee 412035, and she was amazing! She took my phone call and greeted me by name when I walked into the store. My face? It looked amazing. I am very fair and she made me look like a modern day snow white, in a good way! read more

I had a wonderful experience with my MUA Monique M. I came in not knowing what I was doing or what I needed (AKA the worst type of customer) I needed help with a Smokey eye because I use the wrong colors and brushes and am constantly ridiculed for wearing way too much eye makeup at work, even though I love it! Instead of just showing me a palette and some brushes, Monique took the time to sit me down and show me the correct techniques and then watch me do it and see what I am doing wrong. She was patient and friendly and everything you would hope for in a customer service representative. I didn't feel like she pushed anything on me, and I ended up spending $100 anyway ! I was hesitant to get my makeup done at this location because of prior reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. Jasmyn did my makeup and she listened to what I wanted and did an amazing job. For a purchase of $60 in MAC products, you can have your makeup professionally done for a special event. You should just make an appt. in advance. I know people think MAC makeup is automatically over-the-too or too heavy, but you just have to be clear about what you want. The only issue I had was one of my fake eyelashes did not stay adhered, but everything else was perfect. My makeup stayed all day while I was outside in the heat. The only negative of this location is since it's small, the makeup artist must keep stopping to ring people up. As long as you budget extra time, this spot is perfect. The first time I went into this store they pretty much ignored me. I guess I looked like a teenager that isn't gonna buy anything or be a big sale. But I went in there with a mission, and that was to get some dark reddish-purple lipstick. I asked a lady and she had an attitude that basically said "why am I helping you?" But I found the lipstick I needed and left. The next day I came back into this store. It's the closest makeup store to my current hotel, so I go to it for convenience. This time I needed some eyelid primer. I actually ended up getting some concealer instead to use as primer. No one approached me today, I approached them about the color I chose. So I bought it and left. The third day I came in is the reason this place gets a third star. I walked in and was looking at lipsticks to find a nude. The best MAC store worker I've ever come across, Steven, approached me right as I started looking. I tried on one and it seemed to wash out my lips too much. I tried on another and it was too much. So I asked him, and he recommended lip liner. It made the first color work perfectly. I ended up buying two eyeshadows too, which I didn't intend on when I entered the store. So, overall, the MAC in grand central is okay. I don't expect people to be on my ass 24/7 or have service where you don't even have to ask to get served, so when I get service that's seriously amazing I feel kind of uncomfortable. I haven't seen a MAC store with an overall exceeding a 3 star though so I guess that says something about the superiors at MAC and how they choose their managers. read more

I love MAC products, but I do found MAC costumer service horrible, specially the store in Grand Central Terminal. The girls who works there think highly about themselves and treat costumers very rudely, it was almost like they didn't want you to buy anything. Honestly, I am a professional makeup artist, those girls are just sale person to me, I wouldn't really consider them as a real "makeup artist", they don't have the artistic quality like the professional does, all they think about is "sale, sale, sale!" But look, you need to be a bit nicer to sale your items! The people working in this store are amazing. They are always helpful. I live in westchester but work in the city so I commute through grand central, this is easy for me to get to. The only thing I will say, it gets crazy crowded during rush hour and I feel like the music is a little too loud so you can barely hear the people talking to you. If I were able to give it no star I would, I had the worst experience at this Mac location. I've been getting all my cosmetics from MAC for a good number of years and never been turned away at the counter for returning an item at it's store. Went into grand central terminal location to return an item for my sister and was turned away b/c it wasn't her personally returning the item. It's crazy to me b/c I've never needed my sister to return an item for her at the MAC store in the past and never been ID when purchasing with my CC. When I asked why? or what exactly that they needed in order to go ahead with the return, the MOD didn't have an answer for me that would enable me to return it myself. So basically I walked out not completing my return. I had the item, the receipt, and the CC ..... arggg what is the problem, SERIOUS! (MOD you suck) I mean WOW! seriously never, ever, ever had this problem before. I mean I get it it's store policy but you would think if you looked up my past purchases you can see that I'm a loyal customer and would make the exception to return the item. Plus if I lied and said it was for me I guaranteed they would NOT ask for my ID. I advise to those that are a huge MAC person like myself go shop at the bloomingdale's location. Yes crowed but their service is definitely on point. Or if you're in the brooklyn area go to 152 Montague St, location (less crowded). read more

Popped into the MAC store in Grand Central in search of a new shade of lipstick in the Heroine family - "Men Love Mystery" - this matte shade is gorgeous (lavender violet) - it's a lighter shade of Heroine and perfect for summer. Special shout out to Steven who was awesome in not only finding the shade within one minute but for also bringing over another shade so that I could "tear and compare". Agree, the store is a a bit small and cramped so adjust your expectations accordingly. I'll definitely return! read more

Lacks service. They won't even acknowledge you. Came in with my friend on 11/28/2017 at noon to get her color match. They didn't have any compact foundations displayed out but they had plenty of liquid ones displayed. My friend asked the staff for color match but was told to wait since there was a 1-person wait ahead of us. Once she was done, a friend of the staff came to visit. By this time, we had waited 20 minutes and abruptly left since it was a total waste of our time. Stay away and go elsewhere!! read more

Rude staff. Love Mac, but not this location. I've given them multiple visits over the years in case it was just a few staff members, or someone having a bad day. They do not acknowledge customers. Last visit there was a lot of staff present for such a small space and after saying hello? Pardon? Can someone assist me? about five times with no acknowledgement from the person a few inches away....then declaring to all the staff that I wished to make a purchase and not one person lifted their head. I felt like casper the ghost trying to make contact with the living. Maybe if I knocked product off the shelves they would have made contact. Or maybe their ouiji is out of order. Anywho, don't shop here. Go to any other store that carries Mac or order online if you know what you want. The manager obviously is hiring self centered or unhappy people. This MAC location is the worst! They have no enthusiasm about people's time. They will have you waiting forever while holding 5 hour conversations with a single customer. Time management is needed here. They love using the handheld card reader which does not allow them to enter your email so that you can gain the points you've earned. Poor customer service! read more

This store is small but is prefect to run in and out of. I wouldn't recommend it during rush hour (it can become like a zoo), but it's the prefect place to stroll before a later train or to pop into on your lunch break. The staff is friendly and welcoming there and they are edger to help you try products on. I walked away with more than what I was planning to buy. This time when I went in, the sales girl kept trying to upsell me and give me a guilt trip when I said no. Not sure about other people's experiences at this location but I have had above and beyond service at this location. I COULD write a review of the seven other stores I habitually visit in the city that have antagonist, elitist and at one point illegal behavior (MUA selling counterfeit products privately). This store is very non-chalant in it's service and is very forthcoming with information and makeovers without the upsell shill. One MUA offered to teach me how to use the difficult semi-precious brushes. Another MUA allowed me to swatch a whole collection days before the release and place items on hold for the future sale date. It's a no fuss, simple, store with great artists and is now my go to, despite being five miles away from my closet MAC store. Can't recommend them enough. read more

Kerri McCarthy did my makeup while I was in NY. I couldn't believe how talented she is, and helped me feel young. I sent my 17 year old, makeup lover, photos of the makeup and she loved it! This place is not even worthy of two stars. I have been in once before and I was helped by a friendly artist. I work near here and came in because (here's a little back story) I recently bought a lipstick that I don't think worked with my skin tone. The store in Soho has crazy lighting and I walked out the store feeling as though I looked crazy gorgeous..when in reality I looked like a troll. I went into the MAC store at Grand Central and walked right up to the lipstick display. I was promptly greeted by this adorable tiny guy and I wasn't ready so I informed him if I had questions I would let him know. 2.5 minutes passed and this terribly made up older lady came up to me and asked if I had questions. By that time I was pretty much ready so I informed her about my recent purchase and how I felt "crazy" wearing this lipstick. She had me explain what I meant by crazy, which I understand is a pretty vague description on my behalf, but for me to have to explain the definition is a little absurd. So, she tells me to try it on with a lipliner. Between the two she chose I knew it was going to head down hill from there. I digress. She hands me a pencil and rudely says put on. So, I do exactly was I was told then she hands me the tester lipstick in the same shade I bought and says she cleaned it..wiping it with a dirty napkin is NOT cleaning it. So, she cleans it the correct way and tells me to go outside and look and it. I head outside only to realize she never gave me a mirror. So, I walk back in and ask for a mirror. Her coworker, this frizzy haired woman rudely points at a huge stationary mirror. My response was, "I am looking at the lipstick outside the store, I highly doubt that can be lifted up and taken out. How about a smaller one?" Frizzy Lizzy proceeds to shove a mirror at me and before I can thank her, she rudely yells, "You're Welcome". I was extremely annoyed and no longer wanted to have anything to do with these two ridiculously terrible representations of MAC. I headed back in just when her coworker with silver hair says something to her about yelling at me and she responds something to the effect of her being tired. I work 40 hours a week, go to school full-time, AND I help teach Art to a bunch of rowdy 8th grader and I am still extremely friendly despite being tired. I doubt I would ever go back to this store. I would rather deal with a crowd at the Soho store. read more

I came in with 18 mac empties for my back to mac - yes, you get free lipsticks, some eyeshadow etc when you return your empty containers for recycling! 6 empties = one free item (specific items). Even though I was broke and didn't have money to buy new makeup, the staff was extremely helpful and very sweet. Im a longtime mac lover, and the employees have always been a reason to go back time and time again. Now off to use my 3 new, free lipsticks!!! read more
