Traditional Swiss options. Relaxing ambiance. Watch the trams go by as you enjoy Basel.

Steak + fries and an amazing herb butter

Sundays in Switzerland leaves you with very few choices of open anything. Sunday is the day of rest in this country so everything is closed, except a few restaurants. We found this one while walking thru the Marketplatz, open with an outdoor patio. Looked perfect after a long day of flea markets and museums. We got the schnitzel, BBQ ribs, Steak + fries, and french onion soup. We devoured it all. Was really good, or we we're just super starving. Their idea of a salad bar is nothing like we know it in the states. Small, but had some nice stuff on it. They had this big, beautiful menu of all their fancy desserts! All that used Movenpick ice cream, this is like the Ben & Jerry's of Europe. As we watched group after group just coming in for dessert, this was definitely the spot not to pass on that extra course. So we had to end the meal with some famous Movenpick ice cream. Fabulous! There's only one other review here, and they nailed it on the understaffed tip, and order everything at once. We were left hanging for so long and could not find out waiter, finally asked someone else, and then we all saw our waiter in his street clothes drinking a beer getting ready to leave. He never said anything to us, and then a girl started helping us out. Aww, Europe! I think the best part of this place was sitting right in the Marketplatz, and being surrounded with the most beautiful buildings. During the week the square is completely full of vendors a la farmer's market. On a Sunday it was completely empty.

Beef Tartar

My sister and i spent the day in Basel for vacation and while walking around we ended up in Marketplatz, Basel. It's a cute square surrounded by gorgeous buildings such as shops and an astounding town hall where music is played occasionally. One thing we learned is service is a little slower than the US. But i had the beef tartar with a glass of moscato. The beef tarts was flavored by olives, tomatoes, onions and a pepper which added to the taste of small meal. Although nothing else came with it, it was very tasty and a nice snack to have that didn't weigh me down. The waiter we had was very nice to us which was pleasant, since we are travelers of color we had run into some micro aggressions along the way.

Pizza. Very tasty

I absolutely loved the dessert trolley. There is an excellent wine list. The service is impeccable. It is pricey but worthwhile to visit while in Basel.

I feel that it is totally worth it especially if you're a tourist and really want to soak in some of the best sites of the city. The restaurant has a very romantic vibe so it would be great for a date, dinner with friends or family, or something more social versus a business location. Our server was extremely polite and all around there was top-notch five star service. Everything that we ordered came out pretty fast and to say that they were very attentive would be an understatement. I started off my meal with a really nice glass of Bordeaux and it really got my hunger going for what was ahead. For my starter I chose the Saumon Marine which is basically a Salmon Crudo and I thought it was great. It was light and refreshing and woke up my taste buds for my entrée, which was the Sole Meunière. I've had this dish many times in my life at many different locations and this was one of the better ones I've had in a long time. It was made perfectly and the flavors lasted throughout the rest of the night. I would highly recommend ordering it and I also would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was one of our more memorable moments of our time in Basel.

We have been to fancier fondue restaurants around the area and we didn't really have that great of an experience with the customer service and the cheese was ok. Food: my girlfriend and i ordered the beer fondue. it wasnt a big portion but it was really one of the best fondues i had! the cool thing is instead of bread (which is sometimes dry) they gave us warm bretzels. really good! wish i could eat fondue only with bretzels! Service: they were nice. sometimes not very attentive but totally ok. Atmosphere: its not a special atmosphere. but the good thing is that you can even sit outside in a little alley if its nice weather. even at high temperatures it wont be too hot there. additionally in the inside the have a "zapfhahne" on a table where you can take infinite beer on self-service. and in the end they give you the bill of all the beer summed up, pretty cool! All together more likely a 3-stars place. but because of that awesome fondue and the delicious beer they offer i give it 4 stars!!

This restaurant is very hot or miss (at best) with the food and service - while a few years ago it…read morewas in the Michelin guide I think it has dropped off significantly and I would not recommend. Atmosphere is nice with ideal tables out on the balcony, and additional tables in the square with glimpses of the river. Some live music for those on the square. We appreciated the kids coloring sheets and colored pencils as a nice touch. The service was pretty slow - after being seated we waited over 20 minutes for menus alone. After ordering drinks took awhile but then food quickly followed. The food was not great, and didn't always follow what was listed on the menu. The Salade Nicoise was tasty with great fresh tuna and a warm salad of potato and green beans. However, the cordon bleu which we got to share between my husband and one kid was terrible! It had soggy frozen vegetables as a side and a cordon bleu that seemed mass produced, what an embarrassment especially at 46 CHF! Then the lemon ricotta ravioli was anything but - the menu said it had burrata, lemon and mint and instead it was a bland cream disaster with arugula on top. Absolutely no lemon or mint flavor whatsoever. We mentioned to the server that we were disappointed with the food and her response was "oh" and that was it.
