The only local cinema that is still affordable for families, the entrance fee is currently (as of 5/2008) $5.00 for adults, and $3.50 for children. The concessions will also remind us of our youth, with most prices for concessions under $2.00 each. The Dolby Surround system is state of the art. Restrooms are always clean, and the seats are stadium style-seating, mostly rocking chairs with ample room, with a balcony, to boot! The historical feel has been kept up, while the viewing and sound is the newest technology. Drawbacks... only one showing on weeknights (7pm), 2 on weekends (7pm and 9pm, generally)... but in a town of 1800 +/-, this is understandable. I live right around the corner and the 50th Anniversary screening of Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon was the first film since their launch (in current iteration)...it was fun to experience on a large screen. 3.) What is unclear from the online presence is that food can be served to your seat. I looked extensively in the sight but this was not evident to me until we arrived. The menu is very pedestrian, burgers, greasy fries and more fried things, and standard salads. Again, nothing special or unique. 4.). Why are tickets for future screenings unavailable since they are already advertised? Also, there was a lot of noise in the lobby during the film and the house lights did not come up after the film concluded. I WANT to support a local one-screen experience Downtown, but how I miss the reopening days of this place when it was diversely curated and a human being sat in the ticket booth to welcome you into the Experience of The Queen. Seeing the usher at the front always makes me smile. I remember when my friends used to work here and they'd tell me all about how it was a lot of waiting. Being greeted by a teenager is refreshing and takes me way back. Ticket prices remain COMPETITIVE! I got the movie pass and bought tickets for 5 movies for several folks for just over $100. Admission is dirt cheap (compared to San Antonio theaters) and the Manager's Special is an extra-large popcorn with all the refills you want and 2 medium drinks for a reasonable price. When I go alone, I have them fill one drink (placed inside the second cup) and butter the popcorn. For action movies I usually ask the snack bar personnel if there is a slow spot where I can get a popcorn and drink refill and they always tell me where there is one or just say you don't want to miss a minute. No problem there, as I just get my second drink and a popcorn refill on the way out at the end of the movie. At home, I share the popcorn with my dog, who does every trick I've taught her for more and I'm sure she gives the popcorn 5 stars. Very friendly staff. You can't get more "hometown" than this.
