Bennett Highway? who would have known, it's just Route 1 to me…read more This is right off the highway, going N. Bang a right, About once every 2 years I go to a package store to shop for some occasion I am attending. This was a St. Patrick's Dinner. I easily found the Guiness display, you couldn't miss it, set up near the front of the store. 17.99 for 12 bottles of Guiness seemed like a good deal. The cans with the gas were more and I passed on those. The do give a nicer pour however these were fine for the occasion and the price was right. They had some discount booze in a couple of wagons up front, nothing I was interested in. The store is clean and well lit and organized. I will be back, prices are very good.

However, recent ownership changes seems to have…read moreresulted in poor packaging - thin bags that rip and bottles fall out and no dividers between bottles. This is incredily cheap service that reflects a profit motive out of line with good customer service. If you go, demand double-bags and dividers. The prices have increase, so WTF??

if i could do a no star review i would. NEVER stay outside the store for any longer than it takes…read moreto get in your car and leave. im currently dealing with 2 broken hands i stopped at vernons for a few nips and after my purchase i sat down outside to have a cigarette and collect myself. the owner and another employee came out and yelled at me to leave and that i was not allowed to drink outside the store. i pulled out everything i purchased and the receipt to show them i was not drinking and showed them my bandaged and casted up hands with a single cigarette in between my fingers. they still told me to leave or they would call the police for public intoxication. i hadn't even started drinking at all that day. ive been back since and everytime i do they follow me outside and stare me down until i leave, sometimes berating me as i try to get on my bike to leave. they claim they've said this to me multiple times but it was only said to me the one time when i was CLEARLY not drinking outside of their establishment. its no surprise that this place has a less than 2 star review because everyone that works there or owns it are TERRIBLE people

It's strange to rate a liquor store but my new philosophy on life is 'If they're taking my money,…read morethey're gonna get Yelped." By virtue of being the packie nearest to my Malden dwelling (affectionately referred to in e-vites and inter-roommate correspondence as The 162), it's the first stop for spur-of-the-moment boozing needs. I maintain that one can have liquor-based necessities without being an alcoholic. Like a year ago, when I was between autos. Ursula had died and Miho and I had yet to find each other and, accordingly, I had to hoof it. With some Beef Florentine in the oven and dessert on the brain, Vernon's was the only liquor store within (timely) walking distance. Fresh fruit Foster was on the menu and I was insistent on a banana liqueur. The best Vern's could do for me was the dreadful, high-proof 99 Bananas. Yuck. More recently, Gentleman's Quarterly recommended Pimm's No. 1 as one of four European spirits perfect for summer. Each of the two employees I asked for direction looked at me as if I were one head short of a hydra and dismissed the notion. Undeterred, I eventually found a dusty bottle on a bottom shelf devoted to other low-demand curiosities. To her credit, the misplaced, witty young lady working the register (who did not offer the simple compliment of an ID check) showed genuine interest in the Pimm's and we briefly discussed my intent to mix it with Fresca (not, in hindsight, an ideal blend) and its more regular companionship with lemonade. I won't relate the entire narrative but I would encourage those of y'all with dark senses of humor to wander in on a lazy afternoon and ask for a gift certificate. What an amazing scene. At any rate, the prices are what you'd expect them to be. The wine selection is piss-poor and you shouldn't expect much in the way of a recommendation or even ordinary human kindness from the employees. Malden has plenty of better options (any of the umpteen Kappy's, for example).
