Brought in car because brake wear indicators were squeaking and I believed it was time to change pads. After telling me brakes just needed a cleaning I picked up the vehicle shortly after. The labor pricing was insane, after expressing my dissatisfaction I left to find my brakes still squeaking! When I returned and explained the situation, an older mechanic/owner offered to ride along and listen. Sure enough it is squeaking, I asked if they checked the wear indicator up front and he said "If you know so much, why are you here?" After acknowledging the squeaky brakes he agreed to look again. Sure enough it is the wear indicator on the brake pads, and mr master mechanic had eat his own crappy words up. So unfortunately I knew more about the issue then these "professionals ". Excellent service, competitive prices. I went to the same mechanic for almost ten years and have switched to Lyons Auto. They helped me switch my son's seat into the car they loaned me and called me days after the work to make sure everything was working fine. They have stood by their work since and I look forward to more business here. Update: Took my vehicle in for service and they redid my whole brake setup (they failed to mention this needed to be done at my first visit) By the time I realized there was an issue the whole thing needed to be replaced. RIP. Then while doing the brakes they neglected to check anything else, even though the check engine light was on. So somehow, in my initial appointment when they replaced the radiator they failed to notice my transmission hemorrhaging fluid. They happily took thousands of dollars from me when I should have just dumped the vehicle then. Very disappointed and will be returning my business to Expert 4WD in Loveland - apparently it is truly worth the drive. read more

I gotta say, I really wish I could love these guys... I live in town and the convenience of having a place near by is so appealing, but after two bad experiences, I won't be giving them my buisness anymore. The guys working here are really very nice. But the past two times I've come in for a simple oil change I've been quoted over 1000 dollars in needed repairs. Luckily I have a mechanic I have used and trust for years for bigger repairs. Both times my Mechanic took the over 1000 dollar quoted issue and could bring it down to under 100 bucks. This last issue wasn't even an issue at all it turns out. I feel a bit taken advantage of and am glad I didn't drop 1600 on a repair that was completely unessesary. My advice is use these guys for sure. But get a second opinion on big repairs. read more

I believe I am charged fairly for the parts and labor required to keep my Honda Element in excellent running order. The staff are courteous and follow through promptly on questions. I really appreciated that they also took the time to thoroughly explain and answer all the questions. They even resolved how to get around the fact that I have trouble cell phone service up the road in the river canyon! The estimate was more than fair and accurate and all the necessary work was completed quickly. Very grateful for the professionalism by all the staff at Lyons Automotive. I hate to find skeezy auto repair places and this is one of them! I wanted to support the local guys, so the first time i went in for an oil change they tell me the reason the service light was on was because one of my fuel injectors isnt firing and they want to clean it out. i said id think about it because there didnt seem to be anything wrong with it. this kind of made me a little suspicious, but i decide to go back for my next oil change. This time they call me telling them to call them back as soon as possible. i call them back and they say that my coolant is long overdue and is corroding the hoses and that they all need to be replaced for 180 bucks! I decide not to do it and the next time i needed an oil change i go to the instant oil change in boulder (which is great by the way) and ask them to check my coolant and tell me what they think. they bring it out in a clear tube indicating that it is in great shape. i tell him my story about what the lyons place had said and he said that the seals get loose over time on the coolant tubes causing them to corrode BUT you just wire brush it off the hose and tighten the clamp YOU DONT NEED A WHOLE NEW SET OF HOSES. Anyway, dont go there anymore and i dont recommend it unless you want a little extra unneeded service read more

Nothing worse than car trouble when you're away from home. Just happened to us this afternoon!! Long story short...blew a tire on our retro camper(1972). With a little help from local law enforcement, we were directed down to Lyon's Automotive. Sight unseen, I had no expectation. I just knew my tire was fried and I wasn't in the mood to have to play games. On arrival, I went to the office and found the owner to be warm and personable. I pitched my case, needing a tire to get home. He gladly explained "they don't sell tires but would be willing to check to see if he had a used tire that might be suitable." Not 5 minutes later he came back to inform us...He found a used tire in the back that would suffice to get us home. I'm at their mercy at this point. After giving the green light to proceed, his employee hopped to quick action. Within an additional 5 minutes, he had the replacement mounted and balanced. I was out the door with my replacement for UNDER $30!!! Who does THAT in this day and age? Good old fashioned small town service at a bargain price!!!! read more

The guys at Lyons Automotive are fantastic. I've been using Lyons Automotive off and on for twenty years and the only time I have ever been disappointed is from the cost of the parts and that's not even remotely their fault. The only reason I did not use these guys consistently for the last twenty years is because I had a mechanic one block away from me and he was good, not great. That mechanic retired and my only real option was Lyons Automotive especially since they have loaner cars. My latest car nightmare is the reason for this review. I have a 2000 crappy Subaru Outback and the clutch went out. I knew that it was not just the clutch that was going to need some attention, it's an old car and once you start digging around you will find more broken stuff. So of course they called me and told me my head gasket was leaking which this car is famous for, more money. So as you can imagine there is now a hefty price tag on the repairs but what are you going to do it's got to be fixed. So I get the car back and before I leave they inform me that they fixed the A/C for free not only that they also fixed the windshield sprayer free, how cool is that? Way cool. I have the car for less than a week and the throwout bearing is going out, bummer. This means they have to pull the engine again at their cost and they do. So I'm off again and a week later the throwout bearing goes out again, dammit! So now the engine has to come out again on their dime. I have a couple of request's this time as I drop my car off on Monday, 1) I need it back by Wednesday morning so I can get an emissions test on my day off, 2) Please make sure the A/C is fully charged when you put the engine back in, it is so cool having A/C in my car again. Lyons calls me Tuesday evening and they inform me as to why the throwout bearing keeps going out. Maybe it's something they should have caught the first time, maybe not. There's thousands of parts on a car and there's tons of stuff that can be overlooked. There's only one thing in life that's perfect and that's death, no matter what you are going to die and it will be perfect. So they are replacing all parts on their dime and they are going to do my emissions test on their dime. We had a brake caliper bolt come loose and were luckily 1/2 a mile from this shop. I called ahead as I was towing a travel trailer and Chuck, the owner, answered and got the alley setup for me to pull down. The part needed had to be delivered from an auto parts store 30 miles away. Even with this, the repair took less than 2 hours including balancing the tire and checking the torque on the other calipers. Chuck was amazingly friendly, courteous and just flat out awesome. These are friendly people who I can trust. I went to them for years, and a new person took it over, who I dont know well enough yet. I have had some minor problems that I had to go back and get fixed. I often hear compliants about the business, but I havent experienced the problems they talk about. Maybe bec. I take my car in regularly for tune ups and fixes. They have fair prices (not super cheap do-it-yourself kind) and usually unbeatable tire prices. I miss the guy who use to run the front desk, but there is a capable young guy now doing it. It is more of a home business feel than if you went to a big city, or dealership. read more

My boyfriend took my car in for an oil change in Boulder and they showed him the serpentine belt, it was badly damaged and needed to be replaced. They showed him the engine air filter and cabin air filter, they both needed to be replaced, so that weekend he replaced them. On Monday I took my car in to Lyons Automotives for belt replacements. Later that day they called to tell me that the belts would cost over $200, and that they recommend I get an oil change and replace my engine and cabin filters. This all seemed a little odd because I had gotten an oil change and changed out air filters 2 days prior. It also just happened that my boyfriend had the exact same work done on his truck at Walker Automotives in Estes Park the week prior, his bill came to $127. Needless to say, I had some questions when I went in to pay my bill. I asked them why I was told to change my air filters? Answer- "it takes us like 45 minutes to pull them out, so we always make a recommendation to change them" Lame. My next question was why did it cost twice as much for the same job as it did in Estes? Answer-"well, you're comparing apples to oranges, that was for a much older truck...and...these are just our prices..." This was from the owner, he obviously didn't care about making the customer happy or at least not feel taken of advantage of. read more
