I first saw Lynne in 2004. I couldn't leave the house. I had suffered from anxiety for most of my life, but when perimenopause hit, I was a mess. Lynne saved my life! The exposure assignments she had me do empowered me. She had me yell at my anxiety and realize I have a choice to live with it or conquer it. Lynne is brilliant. She is highly trained in anxiety and panic disorder. She knows her stuff. I remember her telling me because I would ask her all the time, do you think I'll ever be normal again and be able to do things and she would say yes if you do the work. Lynne also helped me by communicating with my psychiatrist on what meds were working, and which ones were not. She helped me alleviate my fear to use anxiety meds through this difficult part of my life and not be scared of them. Even when we were doing telemedicine, I was still able to put myself in a place and imagine a scenario in my head where I had to deal with my fears. I just felt so safe and trusting with her. Lynne saved my life, I will always be grateful to her. I still have panic attacks once in a great while, but the tools Lynne left me with help me fight them and they don't escalate. read more

I have been Dr. Freeman's patient on and off since 1995. She has been a lifesaver every time that my anxiety's come back to wreck havoc in my life. Always helpful and kind with an unending reservoir of empathy she always takes time to go over my problem and treatment options. She has been a great help to me in my most vulnerable moments in the past 25 years and even though I only see her for a few weeks--every 4 or 5 years, when my anxiety comes back--I know that I can count on her guidance and support. She's scary. In my intake session with her she got us on the topic of spirituality. I mentioned believing in the evil eye (which is a cultural belief I have from being middle eastern)-- she said that while it's okay for people to have spiritual beliefs, believing in the evil eye is superstition and that's a problem. After going back and forth with her, she reluctantly allowed me to keep believing in the evil eye, after saying there's "no scientific proof for it." I found this really offensive to be honest. Who is she to be the arbiter of which cultural beliefs are "legitimate" and which ones aren't? Also, she seemed very keen on talking about all her credentials, bringing them up and encouraging me to ask about them. It felt fairly narcissistic of her. Reading her website seems to confirm my sense that she might be a narcissist. She literally brags about having had a client wait list in the 80s in the "our practice" section. Also note that if she responds to this (as I suspect she'll want to prove to everyone that she was right in this situation), that's a HIPAA violation. read more

Lynne significantly helped me through a sudden time of disabling anxiety and agoraphobia which occurred alongside serious physical illness. Since I couldn't tolerate any anxiety medications, I was even more skeptical that therapy alone could help me. But I went from not being able to leave my house to cavorting around town as well as driving freeways (my worst fear) for miles. As for Lynne's style, she is the perfect blend of caring and gentle when needed but also direct and firm to keep you accountable and moving toward your goals. Which means FYI she won't coddle you, enable victimhood or engage in endless analysis. She's CBT-- focused on helping you take ownership of your "sh*t" and giving you tools to empower yourself to overcome your condition. In this way, she was the "tough love" I needed to pull myself out of a dark hole. However, Lynne still has lots of heart and never made me feel judged. For instance, I felt so much shame over my situation and what my life had become, but Lynne helped me meet this life challenge with self-compassion and awareness. Lynne is fairly unique, too--in fact, I'm incredibly lucky to have found her. She's one of a few therapists specially trained to treat anxiety disorders. And bc of her own personal experience with both mental and physical challenges, she brings a real understanding and empathy that many other therapists can't. I was also impressed that after 9 months or so she sent me off to fly on my own when she felt I'd sufficiently progressed. At the time, I didn't feel ready and questioned it, but it turned out she was right. I was on two medications but was still suffering from regular anxiety attacks and panic episodes. Lynne was different than any therapist I had been to. She does not just talk to you about your feelings (although she does also do that and is an excellent listener), she gives you practical, concrete strategies on things to do to help you get better. She carefully and methodically gives you ideas and things you can work on to improve your quality of life. They can be little things, individually tailored to what you need that will help you to overcome obstacles you are having in your life. I've had a few therapists and none have come close to being as effective for me as Lynne was. She will get your background and talk about your feelings but she will also give you tools to implement in case of a panic attack, after an anxiety episode, etc. This is embarrassing to say, but I had a real fear of dating at the time. Although I was going on quite a few dates, I was extremely nervous and would be very anxious leading up to dates. Lynne and I worked on techniques to help me with my dating life and life in general and my fear went away. She is incredibly knowledgeable about anxiety disorders and knows the facets and specificities of each one in a way that other mental health professionals, just do not. She can categorize and label behavior (ex: "that is OCD/perfectionism" or "that is relationship OCD or ROCD" behavior) in a way that makes it understandable to the client and less of a mystery. Lynne does allow the use of medication where appropriate, but things got so much better for me, that, with Lynne's counseling and the supervision of a medical doctor, I tapered off one of my medications and am a few months from being off the other one (you have to go really slow!). I am doing so well that I no longer need regular sessions with Lynne but know that I can call her should I need her in the future. I have friends and family members who suffer from anxiety, as it is all too common these days. I share with them strategies that Lynne has taught me and would love if the mental health field was flooded with 10,000 Lynnes so that I could refer everyone I know to a Lynne-like professional. As ridiculous as that sounds, she is truly one of a kind, a wealth of information, professional, kind and top notch. If you can see her for your anxiety, you will be in such good hands. I was referred to Dr. Freeman because I think my dr. was tired of telling me there was nothing wrong with me. I've been afraid of getting cancer or some horrible disease since I was very young. I have seen a lot of therapists about this and they have tried to reassure me but it hasn't helped. As I get older ,it has only gotten worse. I think Dr. Freeman is one of the few therapists that treats health anxiety and I can't say enough about how much she has helped me. read more
