    Venison sausage...so good!

The atmosphere, the service, and the food were fabulous! I still think about how good the venison sausage was!

This review is for Jakes Bar within Lynham's Hotel. My friend and I went to Ireland for a hiking holiday along the Wicklow Way. We stayed in Laragh for two nights. We checked out Jacks Bar after our second day of hiking and was surprised to see the pub super lively around 5pm. We sat ourselves by the bar and soaked in what is definitely a "traditional Irish pub" (unlike all those other pubs that advertise themselves as one in the touristy parts of Dublin). The atmosphere was loud and energetic. We ordered a few drinks to start. The bartenders were nice and let us sample some of the Irish beers we weren't familiar with. We also had a glass of a Glendalough 13 year whiskey. When we ordered that, we asked "if we could try it" and the bartender responded, "No you can't just try it, you have to buy it!" Maybe it was cultural differences, or maybe he thought that since he let us try samples of beers, we expected to also get a sample of the whiskey. Whiskey still really isn't our thing, but we had Bulmer's cider and our food for chasing. We ordered 2 appetizers and an entree to share: seafood soup, breaded brie, and Guinness stew. There was a variety of seafood in the soup, like mussels, octopus, fish, and even imitation crab. It was a creamy chowder consistency. The breaded brie wasn't as melted as the dish we ordered in another town so it couldn't compare. The Guinness stew was glorious. Perfect chunks of beef, slow cooked to perfection. Great compliments from the root vegetables, and the consistency of the stew was not too thick but not too thin either. Dip some bread in to soak up the stew; I could not get enough!

The dark wood table tops and cast iron bases just make me feel grounded. One of the hosts asked if I had a reservation, and I was almost sad because I didn't expect it. She was kind enough to seat me anyway. I don't know her name, but she was lovely, golden hair, and bright green glasses! I was served by Avinash, who had a warm demeanor. My phone was about 20% and he kindly let me charge it; hence why I do not have any photos of the meal :) at the end of the meal, when I asked for an espresso, Avi came back with my phone as well-- a nice touch of remembrance. I had the slow cooked lamb leg, with potatoes, carrots, and rosemary stuffing with a balsamic mint sauce. It was divine. It was my first meal of the day, and I savored every last bite. The atmosphere was just what I needed. 5/5 would return. And did yall know they got first editions of Bam Stoker, Oscar Wilde, and James Joyce??? Sheeesh.

This was a sizable restaurant with an large outdoor seating area. Inside was nicely decorated and busy. I ordered the Seafood chowder that was thick, hot and with nice spice. After two mouthfuls the Corned Beef Rueben came out which made for a difficult decision to eat what first. The corned beef Rueben was ok, not as good as The Temple bar, too dry and a far 10th to my own juicy corned beef. While waiting for the check, I headed to the head to wash up and upon arrival back, my remaining beer was gone and table cleared as they thought I left. I Paid the bill and on my way. Place seems like a great place To hang outside during warmer weather although it seemed the staff was short handed.

Gorgeous, old-world interior with wood stoves and fireplaces in every room, deep padded armchairs you can lose yourself in. Sink into one of these, accompanied by an excellent cup of tea, crusty buttery croissant with fresh made grass-fed cow cream and admire tons of fun little Tchotchkes and handmade crafts, many of which are for sale. I came in thirsting wildly for a Guinness, but when I saw him meticulously preparing a Whiskey Sour with his own special touches, I pivoted to that. Also, it just so happened that Wednesdays are "Pizza Night" so we went to the pizzeria/mini grocer connected to The Coach House and ordered our fresh, delicious, pizzas that were delivered to us back at the bar. The Coach House has several different eating rooms, each with its own look and feel. We were very comfortable just eating at the bar and picking Roan's brain for his secret cocktail recipes!!

The atmosphere was perfect! It was early Sunday morning, and there were already a few locals inside having their morning beer and reading the newspaper.
