Some of the staff, however is not that good. The Literature department teachers for the most part are extremely rude, and they don't seem to care about if you learn anything as long as you pass the class. One in particular is obviously not suited to be a high school teacher at all. She would fit much better in a middle school, where she worked 2 years ago. One of the science teachers, whom I myself have not personally had as a teacher, is known for being a terrible teacher that doesn't know how to teach to where the students can understand the process. She is an on level Chemistry teacher. In all honesty with the way she teaches, students would be better off in honors chemistry or earth science. The coaches are mostly rude and pick favorites, and ignore and mistreat everyone else, even if they are doing everything they can to respect them. The school cares too much about their sports teams. So much of the funding has to go into them for the equipment and courts they have. The sports teams are terrible, and I know that without paying any attention to sports in general. The science department is under appreciated and under funded for what they put out. The electives are also under funded and under appreciated, especially the fine arts department. The kids at the school aren't great over all, but there are far worse nearby. The administration is amazing. They keep things under control. They are very LGBTQ+ accepting. They even allow a transgender man use the boys bathroom without much of an ordeal at all from what I've heard. A few teachers and quite a few coaches aren't as accepting as pretty much everyone else, even the student body.

First, I want to start with the positive. Some of the teachers were amazing. Mrs. Hughes who taught math made that subject so much easier and fun to learn. Dr. Lusk who taught anatomy also made science fun. In middle school, I thoroughly enjoyed the expeditions we went on. I think that this school did prepare me for college (ie, learning how to manage time wisely, completing assignments throughout the week instead of each day, etc.) I truly believe at the beginning the D's had the best interest of all their students. However, this school over time became very toxic. I know a lot of people, including myself, that struggled with their self esteem and learning to think and speak for themselves. Some people, like myself, went to therapy for years to try and correct the way we viewed ourselves. Here are just a few incidents that I experienced at this school. I was apart of the leadership team "servant leader". I was so excited to be apart of a group and to grow my relationship with the Lord. However, that all changed when Living Science started Paraguay trips. They would pick the most popular students to go. I didn't care to be popular, however, the way that the D's went about these trips made these students almost untouchable and that they could do nothing wrong in their eyes. I was on "Living Sound" for years. Charmaine Landrum (the D's daughter) decided to have "tryouts". Out of all the original people and the people the tried out I was the ONLY one who didn't make it. It became more of a popularity contest than a way to worship the Lord. The D's would make students not work together but against one another. This was particularly prevalent during my senior year. Instead of it being an exciting time because we were all seniors, it was hell. Certain students were told that they were the "problem" when it was clearly the toxic environment they were creating with their leadership program. Some servant leaders who had waited to lead an expedition group for years, were never allowed to do so or given that chance. This was due to the fact that the D's did not like them and put them on the "bad" list. I know the rule of dating as a servant leaders has supposedly changed, however, again if you were a popular student you were allowed to date and if you were on their "bad" list you weren't allowed to date. Students would get into trouble speaking out about it. I was fat shamed, by being told my pants are too tight when I had chronic medical conditions and was already struggling with the way I looked. I was told I wouldn't make it in college because I talked to my mom on the phone every day. I can proudly say that I indeed made it through college with honors of magna cum laude. Another incident occurred during a banquet. The banquets were supposed to be a time to celebrate and have fun with your classmates, however, instead they would have multiple people speak for 45 minutes. Of course, all students got bored and started talking quietly. Certain students that talked, had to write apology letters to the person speaking and others did not. Those students had emails sent to their parents saying how "disrespectful" their child was during the banquet. When I was graduating, the D's found out that my biological family was famous. Mrs. D asked me to get one of my biological members to speak at the graduation. I truly believe, I was given a B in servant leader because I told her no. No one had even heard of anyone getting a B in servant leader before. The worst part is that this didn't end here. One of their former students passed away in a horrific accident. Instead of asking what they could do to help, the sign language teacher decided that she wanted to be apart of the students funeral. I told that teacher no, not to be mean, but because that is not what the family wished for. She kept saying this student would like the sign language performance to be apart of her funeral. They also implemented a scholarship in honor of her. While, I think a scholarship is a great idea, the intention behind it was not great and was meant to gain attention with the public eye. Before this student passed away she also struggled at Living Science and we had several discussions about struggling to fit in. Again, I do think that the D's had good intentions when they first started Living Science, however, as stated before it became a toxic environment for a lot of students. I do pray that this school has changed their approach when it comes to their students and that they fixed what was broken with their system.

The chorus teacher verbally abuses kids to tears, the band directors make the band kids stand in the sun till they PASS OUT, and racism runs rampant among teachers and students. I can't tell you if the other schools in the area are better, but the one good thing I can say about this place is that there isn't much open and outward bullying, and most students respect one another. If you ask any student at this school, they will either say they hate this place or they will lie out of fear. ​

Someone I used to know was bullied lots, and parents had to call administrators over and over, and they would never do anything, even though they said they would "take care of it." They could use some more cleaning, I got terribly sick almost every month due to their lack of cleaning. Often saw cockroaches crawling behind the bathrooms signs, and there would be cockroaches crawling all over the walls. Teachers were Ok.
