They have not finished a new overhead garage door trim and a panel on the front of the building to be hung . I hired Eddie to repair drywall after a water leak -- just mud, sanding, and NO PAINT for six…read moresheets drywall. He seemed friendly, measured the job, and promised to block the area, remove debris, and clean up. He initially quoted $4,200, then $3,500, which made me suspicious. After declining, he reached out to me, mind you he reached out to me and agreed $1,800; he dropped off materials and scheduled the job for June 3. He no‑showed (I took the day off). He showed up June 4 asking for more money, so I reluctantly agreed to $2,000. That's when I realized he was unprofessional. After that, the job dragged on for weeks with frequent skipped days and constant rescheduling. They filled my trash with drywall scraps, never taped off the area. I called him out on it and he said that he will tape it and i had to supply the material, which i did. And the agreed price for 1800 did not involve taping off area and debris removal, that is bull crap because we agreed to that. And didn't do the promised three coats of mud. One worker made a sloppy one‑hour pass, getting mud on speakers and cabinets. Later the next week Eddie returned with sanding pads and said only two coats had been applied. That is another lie. His guy was in and out in an hour when applying the mud. Eddie claims it was 20 minute mud. The finish is still bumpy and uneven. He used a flexible plastic corner bead instead of a metal one, and the drywall edges aren't flush -- another contractor warned this will fail over time. Eddie's sanding left thick dust throughout the house; I spent hours cleaning. When the plastic corner cracked during priming, Eddie blamed me and demanded more money, then promised to fix it free but blew me off twice, forcing me to take more days off work waiting for him. The wall plate cover doesn't fit properly; my other contractor says the wall may need to be torn out and redone. Summary: missed appointments, skipped many workdays, unexpected price increases, poor workmanship, inadequate cleanup -- avoid this contractor. I know he could have done a good job as I'm not questioning his skills. He just choose not to do a good job as he was in a hurry with multiple jobs. But shame on him for taking my money and not delivering.

I do not recommend Total Home Improvement, LLC (Third Lake, IL) for a kitchen renovation. I hired…read morethem for my kitchen and my experience was far from satisfactory. I initially agreed to choose THI for my project due to the good reviews online and recommendation from my designer who thought it would be easier to have THI be my contractor since I was already ordering cabinets and tiles from them. My initial consultation with the owner, Aaron Glenn, was great. He seemed to understand the entire scope of the project but ultimately fell short at time of contract signing. There were significant discrepancies, and I felt like I was gaslit on multiple occasions. This company subcontracts almost all of its work which resulted in major inconsistent quality and communication issues. Major delays occurred due to incorrect supply orders and measurements, and the company (Aaron) showed absolutely no willingness to offer apologies, sympathies or compensation for these setbacks. The most concerning aspect was his unprofessional and unethical behavior regarding a final punch list of incomplete tasks and a remaining balance of $2000 of a total $138,000 project. He demanded payment onsite without providing an updated invoice and even threatened to dismantle my kitchen if immediate payment was not made via credit card. He was assured multiple times that payment would be sent after final work was assessed by my designer, just as I have been doing for the $135,000 of work previously completed but he refused to leave my home. I ultimately filed a police report and am still contemplating legal action as he has threatened to put liens on my property. Based on these experiences, I would NOT recommend Total Home Improvement, LLC. If you decide to still pursue this company, make sure you get everything from the owner in writing during your initial consultation. It is critical you have him sign a delay of work contract (clause dealing with delay in performance) and a waiver of lien so he cannot threaten you as he has done with me. If he refuses, that is a red flag, and you should reconsider this company. Good luck on your renovation project and God speed!

My spouse escalated our request to the owner, George, as he felt that is was Ablaze responsibility…read more George said he would look into the issue. We notified them on 6/12/24, on 6/24 George himself came out to look at the pan and measure the closet to see if a new appropriate drain pan would fit because not all comply with current codes. He ordered the new drain pan, scheduled to have it installed but also commented on the review I left, he asked if he could come by. We said he could come verify our statements when the pan was installed but his team Brian and David were well aware of a number of issues prior to our final payment. Today, August 2nd the new drain pan was installed as George did acknowledge that is the proper installation for the set-up we have. He also reviewed a number of items, offered to fix what he could. While it was a nice offer/gesture, our experience with the team (Brian & David and all the sub contractors) made it impossible for us to accept. George indicated he was not aware and that a number of these items could have easily been punch list items to be taken care, but that option was never given to us. George did in fact reimburse us for a different issue. I'm grateful George stepped in and that he was willing to at least look into it. I'm more grateful he acknowledged and did correct the drain pan and I appreciate his offer to correct what he could. The crew that was here did an excellent job (from what we can tell as of today). It's unfortunate it had to be escalated but I can confidently say, when it was, George did everything he could to get taken care of appropriately. He communicated frequently and everything went very smooth.

We had an amazing experience with A.B. Contracting, and I can't recommend Chris and his team…read moreenough. We were remodeling our basement and got several quotes, but Chris immediately stood out with a fair, reasonable price and a thoughtful approach that made us feel comfortable right from the start. What really set Chris apart was how involved he was before the work even began--and all the way through the project. He offered great design and layout suggestions we honestly wouldn't have thought of on our own, from flooring choices to lighting to small details that made a big difference. He also helped design the space so it functions like three different rooms while still feeling like one connected, open area, which completely changed how we use it. His team was on time, professional, and incredibly respectful. They put down protective matting as they went in and out of the basement, swept the floors daily, cleaned up debris as they worked, and treated our home with real care. They even took their shoes off before coming inside. It genuinely felt like they were remodeling their own home, not just doing a job. The crew truly felt like family, and the before-and-after transformation of our basement is incredible. There were also a lot of thoughtful touches that really stood out. On days when we weren't home, Chris and his team would bring our garbage cans up near the house on collection day, which was completely unexpected and very appreciated. Even after the basement was finished, they helped move furniture and larger items downstairs, which felt truly above and beyond. Our dog even loved them--and he's a pretty good judge of character. Throughout the entire process, they were consistently kind, considerate, and easy to have around. One highlight that still amazes me: Chris and his team stained the basement stairs to perfectly match our first-floor stairs. I honestly didn't think it could be done, but they took their time and absolutely nailed it. The drywall and framing work were done beautifully, and what really stood out was that Chris came back later to check on everything and make small touch-ups, just to be sure the work held up. That level of pride and follow-through is rare. They painted the ceiling black and were meticulous--no missed spots, no shortcuts. Everything was done with care. We agreed on a timeline, and they started when they said they would, finished on time, and left the space spotless when the job was done. To make things even easier, we simply picked out samples from Home Depot, and Chris and his team handled all the materials. The entire process was smooth and stress-free. All we had to do was make one call, do a little planning, and enjoy our new basement one to two weeks later. And honestly, our basement is now one of our favorite parts of the house. It's peaceful, quiet, and truly enjoyable. What we expected to be just a more functional space turned into a place we actually love spending time in. The whole experience felt exciting--almost like Christmas morning--watching it come together. The results completely exceeded our expectations. We're really happy we chose Chris and his team for this project. The experience was smooth from start to finish, the quality of the work speaks for itself, and we'd absolutely work with them again if we ever take on another remodel.

I'm extremely disappointed with how OnDeck handled an issue with our ScreenEZE installation. The…read moreinstallation crew themselves were very nice and professional, which makes the way the situation was handled afterward even more frustrating. We have a mid-century modern home with a very specific exterior aesthetic. One of the defining characteristics of the house is the clean, minimal exterior detailing, and we have been very intentional about keeping window and trim elements flush and visually unobtrusive. OnDeck installed the ScreenEZE system using an exterior corner-mount method that left a substantial amount of dark metal visible around our white openings. At no point during the sales process was I told that OnDeck only installs the system this way, nor was I told that there were different manufacturer-approved mounting options that would create very different finished appearances. During the installation, I was surprised by how much visible metal there was, but I assumed that once everything was complete it would look more like the clean installations shown in ScreenEZE's own marketing materials. I did not realize there was another mounting method that could have substantially reduced the exterior metal because that option had never been discussed with me. I only became aware of the inside/flush-mount option after the project was essentially complete, when I received the installation instructions from OnDeck. Those instructions clearly showed more than one installation approach. When I raised the issue, the initial response was not simply, "We prefer another method." I was first told that I was confusing my installation with a different product/system used for other applications, including arched openings, and that I had not purchased the product I was referring to. I was the one who had to point out that the inside-mount option I was asking about was shown in the installation instructions OnDeck itself had given me at the end of the project. I then contacted ScreenEZE directly to understand what was actually possible. ScreenEZE told me that, when installed correctly and in the appropriate application, flush mounting is a manufacturer-approved method, is covered under their 10-year warranty, and is considered just as reliable and durable as a corner mount. After I brought that information back to OnDeck, their position became that flush mounting is simply not a method they choose to perform because they believe their corner-mount method is superior. That is a perfectly reasonable company preference -- but it should have been disclosed before I hired them. Had I been told, "We only install ScreenEZE using an exterior corner mount, and we do not offer the inside/flush-mounted option," I would have immediately discussed whether that approach aligned with the architecture of my home. If it didn't, I would have hired a different installer. I was never given that opportunity. My first conversation with Phil after raising the concern was extremely defensive. At one point I had to tell him that I did not appreciate being spoken to as though I were a "dumb housewife." The conversation felt dismissive rather than solution-oriented, which was especially disappointing because I was genuinely trying to understand what had happened and how we might fix it. OnDeck also told my contractor that correcting the installation would essentially require replacing everything. Since they were unwilling to offer a workable solution, I contacted another local screen contractor. That contractor was able to reuse the existing metal, replace only the screen material, and move the entire installation inside the openings with two installers in one day. The cost to me was an additional $2,800. I asked that $2,000 be held back from OnDeck's final payment to account for part of the additional cost I had to incur to achieve the installation I originally expected. Rather than having a meaningful discussion about a compromise, I received a notice of lien for the $2,000. What makes this especially disappointing is that I understand what it means to run a small, family-owned business. I run businesses myself, and I know how important trust, communication, customer service, and your word are to building a reputation. Mistakes and communication breakdowns happen. What matters is how a company responds when a customer raises a legitimate concern. I was completely willing to work toward a fair middle ground. Instead, I felt dismissed, given conflicting information, and ultimately forced to find and pay another contractor to solve a problem that could have been avoided entirely with one conversation before installation. My issue is not that OnDeck prefers the corner-mount method. My issue is that this preference materially affected the appearance of my home and was never disclosed before the work was done. Unfortunately, based on how this was handled after the installation, I would not recommend OnDeck.
