Garret lead us through the design phase, Keith managed the project day to day and and Abigail assuring materials were ordered and on time. I do not recommend Total Home Improvement, LLC (Third Lake, IL) for a kitchen renovation. I hired them for my kitchen and my experience was far from satisfactory. I initially agreed to choose THI for my project due to the good reviews online and recommendation from my designer who thought it would be easier to have THI be my contractor since I was already ordering cabinets and tiles from them. My initial consultation with the owner, Aaron Glenn, was great. He seemed to understand the entire scope of the project but ultimately fell short at time of contract signing. There were significant discrepancies, and I felt like I was gaslit on multiple occasions. This company subcontracts almost all of its work which resulted in major inconsistent quality and communication issues. Major delays occurred due to incorrect supply orders and measurements, and the company (Aaron) showed absolutely no willingness to offer apologies, sympathies or compensation for these setbacks. The most concerning aspect was his unprofessional and unethical behavior regarding a final punch list of incomplete tasks and a remaining balance of $2000 of a total $138,000 project. He demanded payment onsite without providing an updated invoice and even threatened to dismantle my kitchen if immediate payment was not made via credit card. He was assured multiple times that payment would be sent after final work was assessed by my designer, just as I have been doing for the $135,000 of work previously completed but he refused to leave my home. I ultimately filed a police report and am still contemplating legal action as he has threatened to put liens on my property. Based on these experiences, I would NOT recommend Total Home Improvement, LLC. If you decide to still pursue this company, make sure you get everything from the owner in writing during your initial consultation. It is critical you have him sign a delay of work contract (clause dealing with delay in performance) and a waiver of lien so he cannot threaten you as he has done with me. If he refuses, that is a red flag, and you should reconsider this company. Good luck on your renovation project and God speed! read more

Clown show. Buyer beware. Has some burn out ex contractor who's own construction company went belly up as his sales rep. The guy lies to me saying they have there own workers and don't hire sub contractors. Well come to find out that indeed they hire almost all subs for the technical work. Also, the guys pricing was way out of line. I understand you need to make a profit but these are difficult times for everyone. Do yourselves a favor and shop, shop around. read more

I called to get an appointment to redo 2 bathrooms and kitchen counter top. After some confusion a guy came out to measure and take pictures. His business card had a different company name than total home improvement. He said he would get back to us with next steps in a week or 2. After 3 weeks I called and was told someone would get back to me right away. It's now been a month and not even a call to say they are too busy. If they can't even get back to you within a month (after 3messages) I can only imagine the responsiveness after you give them a deposit. We met with him several times to go over design and material selection and we never felt rushed. Abigail was instrumental in making sure things were moving according to schedule. We had Total Home Improvement refinish an already finished basement, build a custom work room in the unfinished part of the basement, and build a custom storage area in our unfinished attic. Everything they did was fantastic. THI is run and staffed by courteous, highly competent and communicative people. If you want to get what you pay for from people who clearly take pride in doing their job well, contract with THI. The quality of the work they did was excellent - better in several cases than we were expecting. The on-site staff were super courteous, obviously loved what they do and care a lot about doing it right. Total Home quotes prices up front and strives to stick to that plan. Our project had some cost changes, but none were really surprises, because we were advised up front of places that things could get more (or less) complicated, and when that did happen, THI always talked with us about how to proceed before making any changes to plan. You have to sign off on contract cost changes. Overall, we love everything they did. We have future remodeling work planned and will absolutely contract with THI for it. read more

Well planned, great execution and on budget! We had a fairly large project to be done with a few unique elements that needed special attention to detail. We spent considerable time with Aaron on the up front planning and he assured us that would help us avoid surprises and budget over runs as the project progressed, he was correct.
