My husband recently went to out of country & he wanted to extend his return date. I emailed them very kindly asking for some information or some other options. But they replied with a mere "Only can change with the airline directly." This travel agency could be a little less indolent and more helpful. When you're working with a business, you can only see if it's a good business when problems arouse and how well they handle those situations.

I'm really happy I did because the agent there was extremely helpful and fast with the visa process. Lai Lai Travel Agency is somewhat hidden on the 2nd floor of the business complex. It's a small office run by one Chinese agent who is fluent in English but is probably better/more comfortable speaking Chinese. It wasn't a problem for me to communicate with her in either English or Chinese. Because my DL has a NorCal address listed (and should then go through the SF Chinese Consulate), the agent told me that processing it through the LA Consulate would give me an extra fee unless I showed proof of residence in this area. She was so helpful and explored all the different ways I could do this - water bill, bank statement, even a current student ID with an address on the back. She really wanted to help make sure I avoided any hidden charges. The agent also had my visa processed within 3 business days! Working with her was so simple and straightforward. I'll be coming back here for my next trip to China!

We were fortunate to have just a group of 5 people, which made it very nice. We visited Beijing, Xi'an, Guilin, then a 3 day Yangtze River Cruise and ending in Shanghai. This was my first experience on a guided tour. My partner and I decided that if we were going to China, a tour would be the way to do it, vs. trying to do it on our own. China Tours does an excellent job of coordinating everything. In every city, your English speaking guide meets you and they were all knowledgeable and friendly. The hotel in every city is 4-5 star and excellent. Each one had a fabulous breakfast buffet that was a perfect start to your day of touring. Cons- it's a tour group so everyone has to stay together. There is a lot of walking, so be prepared. The guides tend to downplay how much walking is required. They say 30 minutes, not too many steps. An hour later, they say, only 30 minutes more. To meet the boat for the Yangtze River Cruise, you walk over an hour an a half down hill and then down steep steps with your carryon luggage. If you're not in shape or a senior, like I am, you will be hurting. After the cruise, we took an almost 8 hour train ride to Shanghai. I was shocked, when our train tickets were for second class in the last train car. My partner and I were sandwiched in the last row with non English speaking passengers. Why wasn't I asked if I wanted to be in first class when we booked the tour? The other three people in our group were in first class. I'd have to say that was one of the worst experience of my life. They other confusing thing is tipping. The other 3 members of our group prepaid their tips. We did not, being told to pay the last guide in Shanghai and all the guides in the other cities would get their share. Almost every guide asked for their tip and said the travel company does not pass the tip onto them. We were all obligated to tip them. China is a fascinating country and I'm glad I finally visited it. Having a guide is absolutely necessary. In retrospect, it would have been well worth it to hire a private guide. I would have loved to have been able to say, tired now, go back to the hotel, see you tomorrow. Guided tours keep you on a tight schedule and the group needs to always stay together. Many travelers like taking tours. If you do, you will like China Tours!

My husband and I were going me meet up with our daughter, currently working in India. I called China Tour, spoke with Vivian, who told me to buy the tour on-line and we could make any adjustments by email. So, I bought the tour on 25 October. Yesterday, I get an email from the supervisor (Jim Li), telling me "Some guests just cancelled their trips to Thailand, so we don't have enough people scheduled to operate this trip." When I emailed him back asking if there was anything he could do to help us, his response was "So sorry about that! We are not able to make it happen. " I let him know how unimpressed I was with his service.
