I showered about 6 hours after having it done (recommended minimum with accelerator is 4 hours) I had absolutely no tan at all apart from a little on my arms and chest. I called the next day and asked for the manager. She told me that they don't do refunds and to call customer services. I asked for the number which she said she didn't have!!! I emailed as I couldn't find a number online. They have been emailing back and forth about what shower gel I must have used for the tan not to take. I have done this tanning system (mystic tan) many many times at Heidi Klein and it works great on me. Either something is wrong with their machine or someone didn't put the colour cartridge in correctly. Again they said they don't do refunds and offered me another tan. I don't live in London so I don't want another tan and I don't want to waste time going there anyway. I'm now on holiday and ghostly white! and they won't even give me my £15 back. What a crap place! Give it a miss.

The staff are very friendly and clearly explain the procedure to you but it does seem pretty rushed. I would recommend to get someone to do your tan for you the first time as it felt a bit daunting doing it alone when I'd never done that before! But basically you put barrier cream on your hands and soles of your feet and go into a booth, press the button and hey presto! The tan was pretty even but my hands and feet were very orange, the staff didn't emphasise the importance of the barrier cream enough I don't think as you must have to put a LOT on to stop your hands and feet going orange! Overall, though, it is a great place with very helpful and friendly staff. Would definitely go back there if I had a special occasion I wanted a fake tan for!

That said, if I must put myself through torture there is no better place to do so (although Ministry of Waxing on South Molton St is comparable). The rooms are all individually decorated and the place has nice, thoughtful touches like sanitary products in the loo and baby wipes in the rooms. I've been using Strip since it opened over three years ago and I've almost never had the same therapist (admittedly, I've never asked for the same girl as I'm not good with names!) The skills and attention to 'wax detail' varies a lot so if you find a therapist who does a good job, I'd ask for her by name the next time you book and appointment. It's not very cheap. I'm on a second set of a courses (from memory, buy six, pay for five) but once the course I'm on is done I won't be getting another one. The thing I liked (note past tense) was that one could use the course at any of the branches. Since Strip has expanded into the City and West End, however, they've stopped allowing courses to be used across branches which makes it much less convenient for me as I liked to have the choice of going to a branch near home or near work. I believe this is because the branches are franchised out. But, honestly, should that be the customer's problem??

Since then i have been to other places, although it took a while since the first was such an unpleasant experience. Additional to this the staff seemed unaware that their voices carried in the halls leaving rude comments in the air. Wax was decently fast, but as i say highly unprofessional behaviour from the staff. May be due to the location? But still unwanted, unconsentual touching!

They close at 9pm Monday to Friday which compared to the Hammersmith branch which closes at 8pm I used to use is miles better. Also the staff are extremely helpful and on one occasion let me in even though it was 10 mins from closing time which I was grateful for as that day I had finished work a lot later than normal.

Be warned - you can turn up on a Sunday and find the place closed. Unreliable staff member who looks she need a good wash and some training in customer service.
