Lunch Box Express catered a conference that I had attended. Reserved and made my order a month in advance for a vegan and gluten-free banh mi sandwich. While I am not deathly allergic to gluten, I am highly sensitive when consumed...I was in horror when I had opened this lunch box. Not only did my box contain something that may have not been gluten-free, it also contained non-vegan condiments and cookies! Where is the quality control? While the sandwich itself tasted good, it did NOT taste like a banh mi. There was nothing in this sandwich reminiscent of the Vietnamese classic. Olives, really?? Overall, good if your not allergic to ANYTHING. You can do better. read more

I tried this place because it looked like the food wouldn't make me fat even if I ate it every day. I understand when dinner spots get a pass on the fat factor because "it's not a regular thing." Well I am not so good about packing lunches, which means eating lunch out for me is a regular thing. Taco trucks and Subway just don't cut it. So I found Lunch Box Express, and I am very pleased. Are there some downsides? Sure. But I'll start with the good stuff. First, the menu consists of soups, sandwiches, salads, and wraps (might be other things, but I haven't noticed). I haven't had a wrap yet, so I won't talk about those. Of those items, the salads are the best. fresh ingredients, good variety, dressing always on the side (a huge plus, as I go light on my dressing). Every salad I have had so far has been excellent and delicious. The soups are also good, so I get soup and salad combinations (price: $7.50). Overall the soup is pretty decent. It tastes like it is homemade, but some of the soups have some downsides. First, the holding temperature might be a bit too high for some of the ones that feature vegetables, because I've had some overly mushy vegetables a few times. On the flip side, I've had potato soup with underdone potatoes. But the soups are usually not so salty (from a health perspective, that's a plus for me). I have had the sandwiches only a few times, but I don't like them very much. Similar to Subway, the bread:meat ratio is way off. Too little meat for how much bread you get. I'll probably try the wraps in the future. But any negatives of the food are easily outweighed by the fresh and natural quality of the food. When I have a soup and salad, my stomach is happy and I can coast through the rest of the workday. And that is all I need. The good food is further helped by the very friendly staff and excellent service. Everyone who works there is nice and courteous. And also this: the food is brought to your table. That's a nice touch, and it really adds to the personal feel of the place. To sum it up: good salad and good soups that won't make me fat, served to me by really friendly people. That makes for a place I like to frequent. read more

We received multiple box lunches from this company. Sandwiches had very little fillings, mostly bread. Staff needed to take the fillings from 2-3 sandwiches to make them adequate. Boxes also came with small water bottle, chips, and a cookie. For the amount of money we were charged these boxes it was very disappointing. read more

Needed a simple yet tasty lunch for an office meeting and Lunch Box Express delivered. Their website had LOTS of information and they took my order on the phone with ease. The order was delivered exactly at the time I ordered and they set up left before I could say thank you. The food was fresh and yummy! By the way, the fruity cobbler bars on the dessert platter were clearly homemade and delicious. The price for the food was inline with what I expected to pay. I did choose to bring my own drinks. They seemed a bit pricy individually. Probably offered as more of a convenience. Nonetheless, if I'm in need of a Sacramento office caterer again, I will use Lunch Box Express for sure. read more

(06/12/2013) Was at a meeting that had Lunch Box Express cater for lunch. There were a variety of deli sandwiches: turkey, roast beef, vegetarian, chicken, "Asian" (whatever that is). Bread was a nice chewy ciabatta, standard mayo and yellow mustard packet on the side, but there was already a nice, chipotle aioli on my roast beef, and fresh romaine, tomato and red onion. Side of colorful coleslaw (purple cabbage, red peppers) was fine, cookie was chocolate chocolate chip (thin, chewy, very sweet). Overall, not exciting, but solid. Would recommend a sandwich from them if you're in their storefront. read more

I used Lunch Box Express to cater breakfast for a company gathering. They were recommended by my coworker and I was quite pleased with the food/service. I ordered the frittata (bacon & veggie) and it came with potatoes, muffins (two types), orange juice and coffee. I wish I would have taken a picture of the table. It was set up very nicely and it was a great surprise for my coworkers. The delivery/set up was on time (7:00am). Which I was a bit nervous about given the early start time. The best part is that we received a ton of compliments on the food which isn't easy when you are feeding over 45 people. We will definitely use them again. read more

I've used Lunch Box Express several times over the last few months for work meetings and I am very happy. I have a lot of out of office lunch meetings that require both lunch and drinks; the Seminar Lunch is perfect since it includes water (there are other options too). The lunches come in a nice heavy duty box with everything inside. When I bring these lunches out, people who've had them before are happy! They like the pretty packaging, fresh food and they love the two cookies. Everything is handmade, smells and looks fresh. I never have any leftovers! Their customer service is great too; I've worked with both Angie and Rich and they are both very nice and super helpful. I will be using them a lot in the future for both work and personal events. Sandwiches here are decent, about $7 or more if you get the hot ones, but nothing to write home about. (hence writing it on yelp!) Nice little spot if you are in the area. But be sure to check your to go order before you leave. They are supposed to include fruit, or some other kind of side like macraroni or potatoe salad. Sometimes they forget. read more

We ordered the soup, salad sandwich combo for the first time. The sandwiches were absolutely nothing special. The salad was adequate. The soup (tomato basil) was quite good. I subscribe to the newsletter and there are coupons, for example, for a free dessert platter or lunch sampler with catering order. We chose the Professional Meeting Boxed Lunch. It was more the caliber of food we expect from LBE. The sandwich was good, with a small side of risotto, and a fruit salad. I enjoyed the sandwich and risotto. the fruit salad had three fruits and was rather colorless. The addition of grapes would be good. The melon was cut too close to the rind. Ordered from these folk for the first time for an office lunch--we're out-ot-towners and needed something quick. They were on time, the food and presentation were exceptional, and it tasted so much fresher and better than from other places we've ordered from in the past. I had a $100 coupon from 1/2 off Sacramento, and thought I would give this place a chance at my catering business. I will not make that mistake again. I should have known after my first call, when I did not receive the estimate I was told to expect. I called again to see what happened, and no one knew what I was talking about. I called a third time, and left a voicemail with the order information. Once again, I did not get a call back. On my fourth call, I finally spoke with someone that took the order, and sent me an invoice. However, the information on the invoice was not correct, and I had to call back again. On my next call, I thought they had it right, but no one was able to give me the final total. I did receive an email the night before the party with the new total, and they did show up on time for my party. The sandwiches tasted good, and were fresh, but it would have been nice if I had received all of the sandwiches I had ordered, and not had any substitutions. There was no pasta salad in six of the boxes, despite going over the menu with them several times. In addition, the company apparently does not have a refrigerated truck, so the box lunches are delivered in a car with a towel tossed over the boxes. The lack of organization and attention to detail was unacceptable, the only good thing was, that I was trying them out on a kids party, and not one of my business meeting lunches.
