I was greeted by Doug, who makes you feel at home with a very calm and positive vibe. He then introduced me to Pablo, the star of the show. Did I say star? Rockstar is more like it. When Pablo says deep tissue, he means it. At times it felt like I had two guys working on me. He uses his thighs, knees and shin at the same time as his hands, forearms and upper arm. I don't know how he does it so flawlessly - he's like an octopus! He treated the problem areas I mentioned while connecting the work with the rest of my body. You can visualize how he makes the muscle progression. He is incredibly effective. The whole experience was a disaster start to finish. They didn't honor my appointment time and had me wait over 30 minutes, did a TERRIBLE job with my hair, and to top it off charged me $40 instead of the $30-35 that was listed on the website at the time. I have normal/fine shoulder-length hair, not thick or course. I've never had such a painful blow out. The stylist burned my ear with the blowdryer, and left multiple round brushes curled (tangled) in my hair (why not use rollers?) and walked away while she took the trash out and started doing the towel laundry for the salon. So bizarre and unprofessional - I've never seen anything like this at a salon. My hair looked flat and frazzled at the end, and I was stressed out because it took way longer than expected and left me with not much time to do my own makeup before the wedding I was attending. If I had had more time, I would have showered at the hotel and redone my blowout myself. Oh, and she waited until the very end of the appointment to mention they were cash only - not sure why she couldn't have mentioned that when I was forced to wait 30 min when I showed up so I could have gone to the ATM them. Maybe they treat locals better here, but if you're in town for a wedding I cannot overemphasize AVOIDING this place at all costs.

Ten minutes after my massage was supposed to start, I checked in with reception to find out what is up. The massage therapist finally found me. She then told me my massage would be less than an hour because she had called my name in the sanctuary area and I did not show up...and assumed I was with the one of the groups. I found her overall tone very off putting and it felt like I was blamed for being late for the appointment when she did not really even try to look for me or call. Thankfully the manager let me reschedule the appointment for the next day at a discounted rate and gave me a complimentary glass of prosecco. I just feel like at a hotel and spa which is so expensive, that guests should be treated respectfully. I will go back, but will make sure it is not to the therapist who was rude to me.

I'd like to give a HUGE shout-out to Meghan and the folks at Styles On Main. I was walking my dog…read morepast their door yesterday (yup, Saturday morning of a holiday weekend!) and realized how long it had been since I had had a hair cut. I poked my head in and asked if there was any chance they could take me at some point that day. Meghan said she could do it right then (even though she was obviously getting ready to leave) so I tethered my dog across the street in the shade and went back over. At some point shortly after I sat down, one of the other stylists looked out the window and noted that my dog was kind of standing in the road (at the limit of her leash) and asked if I wanted her to run over and bring her in. My dog knew exactly where I was and proceeded to race into the salon and make the rounds, visiting all the staff and clientele to get some puppy love (98lb german shepherd puppy love, that is) and then rested right by my chair. Actually, she was probably wondering why they weren't using the Furminator on me... Granted, you can get haircut anywhere, especially in Gloucester. Maybe half of those will give you a GOOD haircut, and who knows how much it will cost you. But to have local business owners who are focused on their craft - whether it's food, hair, whatever - and who have also realized that it's really about customer service is such a joy to find. In case you don't feel like reading this whole review, the bottom line is, if you're looking for a new salon, don't want to pay a ton of money for a good hair cut, and want to be treated kindly and with respect and humor, go see Meghan or one of the other stylists at Styles On Main. I wonder if they do dog grooming...
