If it's not so great... well, that was kind of a waste of money. I cannot tell you how many times I have wasted money on crummy spa services. :/ But let me reassure you, this place is a *win*!!! This was, hands down, the best facial I have had in years. Dawn Marie is incredibly good at what she does, and to top it off, she is very friendly, and a pleasure to talk to. She started by asking me if I had any problem skin areas (which surprisingly, they neglect to do at some of these other places... seriously, how can you give me a proper facial if you don't know going into it what kind of skin you're working on?!?) and then left me to get changed. One thing that I appreciated was that she had everything already prepared: the table was ready, there was a robe ready, and throughout the facial, she had everything she needed right nearby; so many other "estheticians" (if you can call them that!) have wasted time fumbling around behind me mid-facial trying to get their you-know-what together haha. On that note, Dawn Marie has been fully licensed in Texas for over 18 years; tons of knowledge and experience under her belt! The facial can only be described as blissful. Over the 50 minutes, she did some extractions, and worked a number of different fragrant exfoliants and cleansers into my skin, which ended with a pomegranate mask, another quick clean, and an eye cream/moisturizer with SPF so I was set for the day. Che Bella is located inside the Mediterranean Day Spa, which is directly off Nakoma. The location a tiny building located amongst all of these warehouses, so not exactly the setting you would expect for a day spa. I had to walk through it (that is not really saying much: the day spa is tiny, basically a room up front for nails/pedicures, a hallway, and another room off to the side) to get to the back room, which is where Che Bella is... I thought that Che Bella was nicely decorated, with curtains over all of the windows to filter the light, a nice sturdy table, with quality sheets/blanket (nothing worse that spa treatments on cheap, itchy sheets!), nice music playing and expensive looking equipment like the towel warmers and a bunch of other contraptions that I didn't get to examine haha. Between the noise from outside and from people in the spa getting their nails done, there was some noise....I didn't even really notice it until towards the end of my facial when I was laying there with the mask on. While she was actively working on my skin, I was so relaxed that I was actually able to tune it out. I debated on whether to give 5 stars just because of the location/noise, but I didn't think taking a full star away was fair since the service was so great... should really be at a 4.5 though. Che Bella offers a lot more services than I realized, so I am excited to go back and get some more pampering from Dawn Marie soon. Been procrastinating on getting a facial and thankfully, their website scheduling system allowed me to schedule my appointment in the middle of the night lol The following morning from scheduling I called because I had questions that the website couldn't answer. I wanted to get a skin assessment so they can help address any problem areas. They called me right back and answered my questions, and advised me to arrive to my appointment earlier, so they could provide me an assessment. Was greeted promptly and professionally by Quinn. The location smells amazing first off! Very relaxing atmosphere, soothing colors and dim lighting sets the mood. Quinn conducted my assessment and was thorough in asking about what skincare products, brands I use and what order I use them in. She recommended a microdermabrasion and a hydrating papaya overnight mask. She started with a deep clean, then provided a wonderful face and décolletage massage, followed by exfoliation, extraction. Towards the end, a series of hydration creams, and finally she put on the papaya enzyme mask that I will wash off in the morning for added hydration and brightening. Quinn sent me home with several samples from their medical grade products to try. They sell a full line on site, based on different client needs and goals. They were kind enough to provide a Yelp discount for $15 for being a new client too. All in all had a great experience, a relaxing facial and good information on skin care! I initially went to Sonterra Dermatology because I was suffering from severe, persistent hives and an extremely itchy rash that had become unbearable. At my first visit, the physician assistant performed a skin biopsy and diagnosed me with contact dermatitis. When my symptoms continued, I returned and saw Dr. Matthew Malan. The appointment was very brief, and he recommended patch testing. I scheduled the test, but when I arrived for my appointment, I sat in the office for 30-40 minutes before being told they had accidentally used the patch test that had been set aside for me on another patient. They apologized and told me they would have to order another one, delaying my testing by another week. When you're dealing with relentless itching, hives, and sleepless nights, that kind of delay feels overwhelming. The following week, I returned for the patch test. Before applying the patches, the nurse commented that my back was already very inflamed. Despite that, the test was still administered. When I returned for my final reading, Dr. Malan immediately said the results were difficult to interpret because my back was so irritated. Then, almost as an afterthought, he said he thought I was allergic to nickel. He told me that a nickel allergy was "the worst thing in the world" because nickel is everywhere and compared living with it to "walking through a jungle of poison ivy" for the rest of my life. When I asked if there was any treatment or medication that could help, I was told there really wasn't anything I could do other than buy a nickel test online and check everything around me. I left that appointment feeling discouraged and hopeless. Thankfully, I sought a second opinion. My concierge physician performed a thorough medical evaluation, including blood work to rule out underlying conditions. Everything came back normal, and she diagnosed me with urticaria and referred me to an allergist. The allergist ultimately diagnosed me with Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSU), confirming that my hives were not caused by a nickel allergy. What disappointed me most wasn't simply that the initial diagnosis turned out to be incorrect--medicine isn't perfect, and diagnoses can evolve. It was the overall experience: the scheduling mistake, performing a patch test despite my back already being significantly inflamed, the lack of discussion about the limitations of the test under those conditions, and leaving the appointment feeling frightened rather than supported. I hope this feedback encourages greater attention to patient care, communication, and ensuring diagnostic testing is performed under appropriate conditions. Patients who are suffering deserve to feel heard, informed, and given confidence that every effort is being made to reach the correct diagnosis.
