Things about Shan: -she's very professional. If you've made an appointment she will always be on time -she remembers things about you (hair color, length, style preferences). If you want special effects or want to change it up, no problem. She keeps a journal with notes so she can always recreate that cut that you loved! (But she's so good at knowing what I love, she doesn't even need to look back at those notes anymore). I sit in her chair and she does her thing! -she cares about you as a person -- she'll remember personal things about you and will ask if that thing at work or in life is getting better. Going to Shan is like affordable HairApy -- (a great cut and someone to listen) -she's flexible. Shan is willing to come in earlier than normal to fit you in if that works best for your life. Things about the Sensations Salon: -it's perfectly located in the Highlands 1 block from Bardstown and Eastern (across from Mark's Feed Store) -plenty of easy parking behind the salon -the interior and decor is clean, "highlands classy chic". It's upscale-ish, but not snoody -they offer tea, water, coffee for their clients -in addition to hair, they offer massage, tanning and mani/pedi's I was super impressed with the space and wouldn't trust anyone but Shan to do my hair!

My stylist was Sara McAllister (hope I spelled it correctly). She looked at what I wanted & what I had then assured me she could do it. After a marvelous neck massage she shampooed my hair (and gave me a wonderful hand massage) & put some treatment on it to help with the dryness I seem to have. Then it was back to the styling chair. She kept me turned away from the mirror throughout the cutting & blow dry. When she let me see the back I was speechless. I received a confirmation email for my appointment but no further communication. When I arrived, there was no receptionist to check me in. Multiple stylists saw me standing at the front desk yet no one made any effort to acknowledge me, inquire about my appointment, or offer assistance. One stylist sat in a client's chair chatting casually while another worked on a haircut, both ignoring my presence. After waiting more than twenty minutes without a single word from anyone, I left. This was one of the most unprofessional and unwelcoming experiences I have ever had in a salon.

I absolutely love going to J Michael's salon located at 4121 Shelbyville Road (in the old Sears…read morebuilding). Paige is the stylist I see, & she does a phenomenal job on my hair. I normally get a touch up on my color, she trims up my hair, she also styles it (sometimes she uses a straight iron to make my hair straight & smooth) other times she curls my hair, if I'm headed out for a night on the town. Most times she waxes my brows for me as well. A typical visit includes a stop at the color bar where the freshening up of my hair color takes place. The chairs are comfortable, & there are snacks nearby if you need a little something to hold you over until lunch or dinner. Every time as soon as I enter, I'm greeted by the receptionist, & she asks if I need anything to drink - a soda, or water (you can get a canned soda, or a glass with ice) they also have wine & bourbon as well if you're really having a bad day or week. I usually sit at the color bar while the touch up is being done, as well as the time it takes for it to process. After that, it's off to the shampoo bowl (which is probably my favorite part)! The color is rinsed off, I get shampood, conditioner, & toner. This is also where my brows are done. Lastly we go to her chair where she trims & styles my hair. The salon is very well laid out, there are 4-5 salon chairs laid out in each section, so when your stylist is taking care of you it doesn't get so loud that you can't carry on a conversation. At J Michael's you can get a manicure, pedicure, a facial, you can have your makeup done, get a massage, lash extensions, and even microblading. They are definitely a full service salon. It's bright & airy, people are friendly, & there's always music playing, & it's generally a wonderful place to get pampered. There's plenty of parking just outside the door of the salon. I'd definitely recommend J Michael's if you're looking for a good place to be spoiled. The products Paige uses on my hair leaves it feeling soft & looking healthy. I typically buy several of those she uses on me, every other visit so I can keep my hair looking just as nice as when I leave the salon.

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed having Khyla do her hair. We first went in expecting a curly cut but then switched over to a silk press (what my daughter originally asked me to do). Khyla led us into discussion about the pros and cons about each and together as a team we made the decision to go with the silk press. My daughter appreciated her tender touch while detangling, and her concern for temperature at the shampoo bowl. Bless her heart I don't think she or I estimated the amount of time it would take with my daughters thick hair. Four hours later my daughter walked out all smiles and satisfaction. She ended up needing inches cut off her hair due to breakage but Khyla gave an in depth explanation why and took her time to only cut what was needed. My daughter appreciated the warmth shown by Khyla, the conversation, and the soft feel of her hair. We are looking forward to a healthy journey of hair care and highly recommend Khyla for future services.

Two and a half hours later before stylist was finishing. No complaints on the color b/c I know it takes a few visits to get the color right. I requested just a trim in the style that I have worn for the past 3 years and love. Not sure what type of cut she was working on but end result requires repair to uneven sides and hair in the back hanging down. Have tried to reach the salon and phone is not answered and VM full. Today is Tuesday and they are supposed to be open. Will not return.

Every time I come, Shelby always manages to make a picture that I've found of hair come to life…read more I've had a wide variety of colors and be loved every one of them. Shelby always remembers my family and asks how they are doing. Denise also asks and they both are just so kind and neither have a bad bone in their bodies. Anyway, just sharing a picture of my hair to see the varieties I've had the past 4ish years from Shelby. Additionally, I have a very sensitive head and Shelby does her best to try not to hurt me. And since I live in Lexington, she always makes appointments work for me. And Shelby also waxes eyebrows and does it fairly painless. Excellent work as always! And she does Keratin smoothing treatments about twice a year to my hair. Really helps when I straighten my hair and keeps the frizz down in my hair significantly. Sometimes I wish my hair could just stop growing so that my hair could always be frizz free. Lol. Best hair place ever!! The day I move farther away is going to be a sad, sad day.

My coworker loves Denise, and despite the fact that she's had several bad experiences (late,…read morecanceled, missed cutting areas of her hair and had to go back, scheduled multiple people at the same time), I decided to get a blowout Groupon. The first visit I scheduled with Denise, but did not find out I was seeing another stylist until I got there. It appeared Denise had scheduled someone else that was overlapping my appointment. Luanne was kind enough to volunteer to do my hair to help Denise, unfortunately it was apparent she had never done a true blowout. I could tell because she was asking Shelby how to use the curling wand. That was probably my sign to leave, but I thought I would give her a chance. Although Luanne was nice, she did a terrible job. She was very rough when using the round brush on my hair - it's surprising that I had any hair left. She dropped the blow dryer on my head and the curling wand. She tried to style my hair so it would look nice the next day, and didn't even bother to ask if I had somewhere to be that night (which I did). Evidently her arm or hand gives out occasionally - which makes me wonder why she's still doing hair. The blowout was not a true blowout and looked terrible. By the time the appointment was over, I was hungry and wanted to get the heck out of there and to my dinner, so I just gritted my teeth and told them it was good. I texted Denise later showing her there were sections of my hair without curl and after some back and forth she agreed to give me a do-over after Derby. She was VERY difficult to deal with, even tried to blame everything on me. Denise also explained to me that the blowout Groupon is for only straight hair. (This was not in the fine-print of the Groupon.) She said they canceled the blowout Groupon due to the misunderstanding of what a blowout is. In another text she even said she doesn't take Groupons - how does that even make sense? When I first got my Groupon in Feb, I made an appointment for June. Two days before my appointment she asked if I could come at a later time, but I couldn't. She then proceeded to tell me to show up early or on-time because she was going to have to work me in between her 530 - basically she was going to work on me while her color customer was processing. Evidently Denise cannot figure out how to make a schedule. While I am always on-time or early to my appointments, I decided to cancel since I don't prefer to share my appointment with someone else. She believes it's perfectly acceptable to work on multiple people at one time. I prefer to have the sole attention of the stylist. I canceled my June appointment and went ahead and got a full refund from Groupon ($55). Overall, I would not recommend ANYONE to come here. Denise was very difficult to deal with and you might have to share your appointment with someone else.
