First of all, I want to say that the…read morewaiting room in Dr. Patel's office is very small, and if four people come, it's impossible to sit and wait for your appointment. You can hardly breathe. I asked to turn on the air conditioning so I could breathe. There are two women at the reception desk and they are very unhappy when you ask them questions. They look at you in such a way that you feel guilty. In the doctor's office, all the doors are open, both to the examination rooms and to his office. That is, you can easily hear everything while sitting in the waiting room. When I was called to see the doctor, I was taken to the examination room, one of the women at the reception came, took my blood pressure and told me to wait. I waited another 15 minutes. After that, I was invited into Dr. Patel's office; he himself came and invited me. I didn't even understand why I went to his office, but I went. The chair was opposite his desk. He started reading me questions about my vaccinations. Did I get this shot, did I get that shot, etc. The door to his office was open, so the people waiting in the room could hear all my answers. I asked why he was asking me about every vaccination. Wouldn't it be easier to give a form to new patients, like they do everywhere, and I could answer all the questions while waiting for my appointment, and no one would hear my personal medical information. After all, there's HIPPA. I got the impression he didn't like my question. He raised his voice at me and yelled that this is how he works and that things won't go that way if I keep asking questions. I could tell he hated me as a patient. He started asking why I came to him and said since I'll have different insurance starting in the new year, I should go to my doctor and let him treat me. My blood pressure was 132... I asked him to give me something for it, to advise, since my blood pressure fluctuates a lot and can be high. To which he replied that my blood pressure is normal... I asked for an electrocardiogram, to which he told me that it would be expensive... well, it was $200, maybe less. He also refused. When this horror with questions in his office ended, he told me to go to the examination room. I went in and sat down to wait for him. He came rudely, listened to me for a minute, no more, and left. I felt like I had come to the prosecutor, not the doctor. I felt some kind of terrible shame when I left the examination room. All the waiting patients looked at me, as if I had done something terrible. My son was the day before. There was also a terrible survey in his office, then the doctor had not yet finished chatting with his patient before my son's appointment. And when he finished his conversation, he came into the examination room where my son was sitting, and not even a minute had passed before the doctor finished the examination. My son wanted to ask questions, but the doctor had already left. I don't recommend anyone go to this terrible doctor. I didn't feel Dr. Patel was professional towards me as a patient. He wrote a referral for a blood test, but my son and I didn't do it because we don't want to deal with such a terrible doctor anymore

I requested A Monday appointment and was told that he's not in that office on Mondays. Thus, I was given an appointment on Thursday. A few minutes later, I get an email confirmation for my appointment, however, it was with his NURSE PRACTITIONER! I replied that I wanted to see the DOCTOR, as I left my former Rheumatologist because he had moved to Costa Rica and left his NURSE PRACTITIONER to handle his patients. Following my reply, I recieved a phone call from Dr. Barron's office. The woman explained that I could NOT see the doctor because he does NOT see patients in the Delray office! When I requested the appointment, I explained about my previous doctor and his move to Costa Rica. How is it possible that this woman was sending me to another nurse and NOT the doctor? I wonder if the insurance companies know that they are paying nurses for doing the doctor's jobs...I wonder if they even care! Dr Barron himself is extremely adept at accessing everything thats going on with me and is very good at diagnosing and proscribing treatment. He take copious amounts of notes and really is good at tracking progress. His staff are all completely professional and his PA is one of the nicest people you will ever want to meet. After trouble getting my Rx assistance, she went above and beyond to advocate for me. I cant put into words how much that means when you are looking for treatment for a debilitating disease.

Before my appointment, I completed all of the required forms through the patient portal. At no point did anyone from the office contact me to explain what I needed to bring or verify that everything was in order. Since most insurance companies no longer issue physical insurance cards, I had already uploaded my insurance information and ID through the portal. When I arrived for my appointment, I was told there was an issue with my insurance and that I couldn't be seen. The staff was not helpful in explaining the problem or offering a solution. I called my insurance company while I was in the office, and they confirmed that, based on my plan, I should have been able to see any provider. Instead of helping resolve the issue, the office created unnecessary obstacles that ultimately prevented me from being seen. I wasted 30 minutes of my day and left without receiving any care. My experience with the front office and customer service was extremely disappointing. Before scheduling an appointment here, I would recommend making sure every insurance detail has been verified in advance, because the office does not appear to do this proactively. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this practice.

He also had his receptionist slam the receptionist window in my face because I asked them to wear a respirator in an ongoing airborne pandemic. The receptionists also threatened to call the police on me because I asked for a letter saying he was refusing to do the examination for disability and refusing accessible accommodations. This is the only time I have ever reported a medical healthcare worker to the Florida Dept of Health as well as the AMA. This is not a doctor that should be allowed to practice and should never be assigned to vulnerable immune compromised patients from the social security disability office. I was thankfully assigned a different doctor for my evaluation who did mask with their staff and was the exact opposite of this office. I would say run away but if you are disabled then get out of there as soon as you are physically able to do so. Never ever go here. If I could give a negative review I would of below zero I would.

She is also kind and seems to understand that heath stuff can be scary. Everyone must know she is so great because her schedule is always jam packed! The ladies at the front desk and the assistants are all lovely and helpful. Not sure if they recognize everyone or if they are just super friendly with everyone. Either way, it's really welcoming and comforting. I love virtually everything about this office but will mention the one area I'm not a big fan of - the Nurse Practitioner, Heather. I appreciate that she is available for those more urgent needs but find her to be totally opposite than the Doctors and other staff. Her tone and demeanor can come off impatient, uninterested, and a bit condescending. Still 5 stars!
