My first review reflected my initial impressions and first visit. Now that I have been under their care for some time, it is time to update! This practice consists of a few permanent Doctors and many, many Interns. The few permanent Doctors also practice at the adjacent JFK hospital, thus why this is called JFK Faculty Practice. These doctors have pretty strict limited openings for patients and can really only be seen preventatively. The rest of the doctors are Interns who are on a rotating schedule and graduate every couple of years or sooner. If you need to see the doctor urgently and cannot wait for an appointment from one of the long term faculty, you will see the active Intern. Originally, I was placed with an Intern, long since gone, and since then have seen different Interns. I don't really mind this, as I like getting different perspectives from different people. I really, really like that all of my doctors have been women, most of them women of color or latinx. 5 stars for this! I also give 5 stars to being able to have fairly lengthy consultations virtually with Doctors who seemed very compassionate and listened to me. However, this system of rotating doctors is only as good as the internal office system in place to coordinate visits with multiple doctors over time. Unfortunately, my doctors have placed nonexistent or insufficient notes from my visits in, so that when I call in between visits or to follow up, the office staff and/or the next doctor have no idea what I'm talking about. This is beyond frustrating! Several incidents have happened: -one Doctor assigned me bloodwork, which I got completed, only to have the next Doctor tell me that I needed to get my bloodwork drawn again because the previous Doctor had left off a panel. -a Doctor prescribed me medication over the phone but then did not leave any record of this in my notes or anywhere else except for the prescription I received. -at the end of one visit a Doctor said she'd call me right back with final instructions and next steps, but did not call me back nor leave any notes -without telling me or asking my permission, a Doctor 'prescribed' me a virtual visit with a pharmacist, but when I got on the virtual visit, it was actually a nutritionist consultation where the nutritionists were given no info of why they were assigned to talk to me, and there was no info in the notes from the Doctor either. Um, now that I write all this out it's difficult to believe I have stuck with them so long! I did however persist in complaining and spoke to a kind nurse practitioner who promised to address some things, but I have no idea how much power or influence she has. While it was nice to be heard at the time, I haven't heard any follow up of what might have changed. read more

We've been going to the JFK Internal Medicine group for a couple of years, and to date the experience has been pretty good. Our last visit, however, can only be described as bureaucracy run amok. I recently contacted the office through the phone (leaving a voicemail message) and through their patient portal since I was simply requesting a referral to a specialist. After waiting several days, I finally received a call saying that I needed to meet with my primary care physician before a referral could be provided. Unfortunately, the doctor would not be available for a few weeks. I was not informed that I could meet with another doctor in the practice. I arrived 15 minutes prior to my appointment, as instructed. I provided my medical insurance and ID cards, as requested, even though both documents were already on file. The check-in process only took a couple of minutes. The assistant took my vitals and asked a few basic questions. He said the doctor would see me shortly. Well, an hour (yes, an hour!) later the doctor finally came by. This was only after my husband chased down the clinic supervisor to complain. Although the clinic supervisor was very apologetic, she didn't have any good explanation regarding the reason for the long wait. I'm pretty sure the staff had forgotten about me and took the next patient. (I saw someone go into the examining room next door, followed shortly thereafter by my doctor.) The doctor was apologetic as well. She said that I didn't really need the appointment in order to obtain the referral, and she didn't know why I was told otherwise. She lamented that she was just an employee, basically just a cog in a big wheel. She offered to cancel my appointment so that I wouldn't be billed. And the office is sending me a refund in the mail for my co-pay rather than apply the refund to my credit card because their credit card processing system was already shut down for the day (What?!?). So, now I have the additional inconvenience of waiting for the check and then having to take it to the bank. The doctor submitted the referral request, which takes another 3 days to process. The name of the specialist will be available on the patient portal. (Or I can wait several more days for the info to arrive in the postal mail.) Ugh! Even the set-up of the patient portal is inefficient. When I attempted to register, as instructed, I received a message indicating that I needed to call the office to have them reset the password. Again, ugh! After waiting on hold for about 15 minutes for the "next available representative", the rep was finally able to address the password issue. As I said: Bureaucracy has run amok! If this is how medical offices work under our current system, then I'm very worried about how inefficient things will become when we have government-run "Medicare For All". read more

BEWARE, DO NOT GET MEDICAL CARE HERE!! I was diagnosed with acute pain, it took them 3 days to send my pain meds to CVS and had many excuses; they sent me for an X-Ray, the X-Ray technician's told me that I needed an MRI to see the nerves and anything obstructing in between bones. I went to Bethesda East to see if they would admit me, however, they took an X-Ray and again, I was told that I needed an MRI as the X-Ray only shows bones, and they gave me pain meds, as the meds this office prescribed were NOT what I needed. I went back to this Primary office and they sent me to an Ortho, only to find out they NEVER sent the proper Referral information. Now instead of an Ortho they are sending me to a Physical Therapist. Needles to say, they DO NOT KNOW what they are doing. The X-Ray technicians told me they were the worst, that even when they put a call for a DR, it takes them 3 days to return calls. They also claim, when I asked for my Records, that patients are NOT entitled to their records, only THIRD-PARTY when requested. The worst experience I've ever had. read more

The worst of the worst. Front counter is beyond rude, zero patience and treats you like a child if you are late even with good reason. Cancel appointments and then laughs about it. Corporate HCA could care less, you are a number. I would NEVER RECOMMEND this facility after having gone there for over 10 years!!!! Really disgusting the lack of patient care this has turned into. Love Dr. Wayland! Great bedside manner and easy to talk to. I'm a fairly complex, disabled patient and spend a lot of time in hospitals and around doctors. This is the first time I've ever had someone truly help coordinate care between my specialists. She spends more than enough time going over everything and I never feel rushed. The fellows I've met that work with her are great as well, and it's nice that you can get same-day appointments with an office that knows you (urgent care won't see me because I'm complex; my last office often just sent me to the ER for basic things). Dr. Wayland and her team saw me in the hospital as well - they swooped in and gave me the care I needed just as another hospitalist tried to discharge me completely unstable. Having worked in healthcare prior to disability, I'm pretty picky about who is on my care team, but I feel confident in her abilities, AND she's nice. Rare combination :) Also the way I even found her was by recommendation from some of my specialists whom I really trust, which says something, too. Other people mention the phone service - I've only used it twice but it was painless. She checks her patient portal regularly so if it's a basic question I use that. read more

Today was my first visit and the office was nice, office staff were friendly and DR. ALEXANDER KUSHNIR was kind and attentive. I wasn't sure if there were any doctors left that are so caring and thorough. Dr. Kushnir asked about my background, had read my chart before he came in and actually asked how "I was feeling"!! I have an awful lot on my plate and am recovering from surgery........and now I have an amazing new PCP! What a great beginning to the new year! read more

Better you should see a veterinarian. No response to phone calls or to a fax sent 72 hours ago to Dr Vicky Britton with two simple questions regarding my medications. Totally unresponsive customer care. Also no continuity of care since the doctors in training are on a rotation that takes them away for months at a time. My doctor was leaving the next day and failed to mention that fact during my first and only visit. It is bad enough to be ill but to add frustration to the mix because of incompetent, non-caring management makes it worse. I would not recommend this practice. It is short staffed and has no office manager. This is a depiction of the practice's leadership. Their call center is virtually non-existent. You can wait up to an hour for someone to answer the telephone. Finally, the building is poorly marked. If JFK Internal Medicine wants their new patients to arrive on time, they need to be specific on the building number they are in and the suite number, or you will be driving in circles. read more

AVOID!!! I had to give 1star but would have given it zero. THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONES!!!!What a joke. A major waste of time. They do not tell you over the phone that you are going to see a resident doctor. I went in with excruciating swelling of the leg and foot and they could not tell me what it was. Of course I needed testing. You would think they would know that. I had to ask for blood work to be done 3 times and they acted like I was a burden to them to draw my blood. I had to ask for an ultrasound I had to ask for a mammogram script which they still forgot to give me. I could go on and on. The worst "doctor" experience ever. It is more like the Twilght Zone. I use to love JFK Internal medicine. Have been going for about 3 years, finally found a doctor I like. Got all my medications straightened out and everything was going great until, like Kim P. says: Bureaucracy has run amok!!! Ever since they switched to HCA they have just completely done an about face. my refills aren't being handled when the pharmacy sends the request which means I have to call the office. The last four times I've called for the same reason I have been put on hold for over and hour each time. WHO HAS TIME FOR THAT!!! Then when you finally reach someone, they have no answers for you and all they do is forward your message to someone else. Then it takes another 2 days to get any response. The whole process is a stressful mess. One of the medications is an anti-depressant, I went almost 2 weeks without it, how safe is that! It is really scary to think that this is what our healthcare has come down to. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Bagatell for the past 15 months. He's very thorough and always reviews his notes from my last visit so as to follow up on lingering issues. He listens intently to what I have to say and usually offers a range of practical solutions/actions to take. I take an active role in overseeing my healthcare and Dr. Bagatell partners with me in this. I have had occasion to see a nurse practitioner on short notice. I was seen the day following my call. The nurse practitioner enlisted the aid of one of the doctors on duty at the time when she felt it necessary. I am very pleased with the care I've received at JFK Internal Medicine. read more

I had a visit today with Dr. Kira Davila and it was amazing. From check in to check out was great. I needed a referral to my rheumatologist and the clinic supervisor was able to help assist with the referral coordinator to get everything set up. I would highly recommend this facility. read more

Worst Doctors office I have been to. Staff is robotic not very personable at all. The Indian Female Doctor was a disaster. Refused to give antibiotics for a obvious skin infection because she had no clue what it was . Which was a very common infection that she should of known as a M.D. Didn't bother looking down my throat or ears which normally every Doctor I have ever been to has done in the past. Then she tells me that I don't need a pap every year instead every 3 years. Which every woman out there knows it should be a yearly test. I wouldn't even recommend going there if you have a cold. Totally useless and a waste of time. Should not be called a Doctor. I was aware they are a teaching facility but not even knowing simple basics is not ok since they have a M.D. title. For four weeks, I called daily, even went to the office and left a sealed envelope for my primary physician and tried utilizing their patient portal, which they tell me hasn't been available or working for 5 months! I couldn't believe they abandoned me as a patient. Then the office manager calls, nervously, to apologize and admits she's spoken with me but never followed through! Now they keep sending me survey forms to complete, I guess to gauge my anger. Too little too late. You have to be lucky and cautious when selecting a physician. read more

If I could give this practice no star I would. Went for annual wellness visit. No fee under my insurance. Two months later I got a bill for $15. Minimal I know, but they overcharged my insurance too. They never answer their phones, so I had to go to their office. They said it would be corrected. In August I got a bill for $187. Again I had to go to office. Billing clerk advised that the bill was computer generated and it just dropped it in. Anyone ever hear of this! Assured it would be corrected. Well, it is September and I got a late notice for $187. I am a patient but I won't be for long. JFK Doctors are in network providers of my insurance company. When you call to make an appointment with your chosen Dr. you will be told you can not be seen for months. You can only see brand new residents. I saw 3 different residents every time I went. These residents were unfamiliar with my health problems nor were they experienced to know much about conditions I mentioned. I signed forms to have my medical records but none of the residents had my records. I could not get a referral to a specialist unless I came in for an appointment. I had a sinus infection when I went in for referral visit. I was clearly sick coughing & breathing problems. The resident told me he could not check me or help me with my infection. He didn't check my heart, my breathing, or anything at all. The resident told me he could only see people for 1 condition at a time. The Resident went on to say I would have to make an appointment for another day to be seen for my sinus infection & cough. I overheard other patients with the same problems as I had concerning being able to see an experienced Doctor they choose as their primary care Doctor. read more

Worse place ever. Nurses lose your paperwork so make sure you make copies of any tests results you're sending them. I received an email confirming my appt, luckily I had a question and called in prior, because they had me scheduled for another day. This happened not once, not twice but 3x!! My surgeon ordered pre op work and sent the paperwork of what was needed here 3 wks prior to surgery, so I took the day off from work to have everything done (unpaid day off), I go to my appt went thru the pre op stuff with their doc, etc thank goodness I had a copy of my previous blood work because I faxed these result to them and to no ones surprise it was not in my file. The doc apparently checked that all requirements by the surgeon were addressed and said they were completed only to call me at home an hour later to say they forgot to have a chest X-ray done as required! Now I have to take ANOTHER unpaid day off. And the response from the doc was "it's not my fault". WELL YES DR. ATIF SHAH IT IS YOUR FAULT, take responsibility for your nurses and and your practice their poor training and then GET IT RIGHT. SHAME ON YOU for shrugging it off as "not your fault". Hope you don't say that when you misdiagnose a patient and they end up permanently affected or worse! I'd stay away from this doctor with that attitude. read more

With the exception of trying to get through on the phone all of my experiences have been great. Several years ago the portal was awful but the past 2-1/2 yrs. or so it's been good. I often request referrals through the portal and also prescription refills. I have from time to time also emailed the Dr. for one reason or another. In all cases I get a prompt response.Having had a stroke and heart attack in 2014 I was seen by Dr. Bagatell and that years group of residents. After discharge I chose to use Dr. Gleitmann for follow up and was always pleased with my visits. I was sad to lose her after graduation but developed the same kind of relationship with Dr. Roman. One more visit and I will lose her which makes me equally sad. They are both very thorough and genuinely interested in not only my physical health but me well being in general. I'm hopeful that my next doctor, who Dr. Roman has recommended lives up to what I've become used to. read more

I went to this practice after my previous PCP, did not do any thing for my swelling of my legs and ankles until it was too late. She also put me on a medication that was for off label use, and had a real bad interaction with another medication I was taking. After a search, I found this, practice and what they failed to tell is that the Actual faculty Dr. sees patients only 25% of the time, and most of the time you see a Post-Graduate Resident, as they are all ready Dr.'s they are just trying to get and meet the Broad Certification Requirements. So far I have seen 3 different Dr's. The Dr's are truly wonderful and great, it is the Front End and office policy and procedures that is Horrible and not so great, the biggest is When you call, no one answers the phone, it rings and rings, and guides you to the portal, you may be on hold for 15 minutes or longer, when it gets to the point that you have to, leave a message, you are lucky if they call back soon, it may be 12- 24 or more hours when you get a call-back. To get a referral if you are on a HMO plan is horrible, it may take 72 hours or more to get it, worse if you are at a Specialist, and need to get one, they will not give you one, nor fax one over to the provider unless you are seen, or have a previous referral for the provider on file. Even though you were there a few days ago, No wonder why the waiting room is always empty, They want you to make appoints and do everything though the Patient Portal, well it does no good when you need to be seen the next day, as you need the referral for the specialist, for the next day, (We had to plea and begg to get the referral) Word to the wise, if you go to this place, ask for referrals as soon as the Dr. gets in, list all of the providers you need to see, right from the get go, so that as they are going though the History they can put in the referral for each, thing, and if you need one for an upcoming appointment that is is days away tell them, now, also They will mail the referrals out, and when you get them make sure they are from a provider that you all ready have an established plan of care with, unless you want to start fresh, or don't have one yet.
