Absolutely delicious! We were looking for quality Italian and pizza and this was the spot. We got there early and were seated right away, the place was busy the entire time we were there. It's a family friendly (lots of kids and activity) place though it was great for adults too. The pizza, classic margherita, was fantastic. Light and crispy, flavorful crust and sauce. 3.5 stars for the food, 0 stars for the service. And that 0 star for the service is a culmination of -2 stars for the maitre d' and 2 stars for our waiter. I'm generally non-confrontational but the attitude we received here was unacceptable, and I ended up storming out of the restaurant after arguing with the maitre d'. SERVICE Our buzzer device notifying us when our table was ready seemed to be a little bit glitchy, so I went up to make sure that we hadn't missed our turn. The maitre d' stared me down, and told me curtly that "if it didn't buzz, it's not your turn." I explained that I knew how the buzzers work, but wasn't sure if ours was working properly, and if she couldn't just check our place in the queue for us. With a thoroughly annoyed expression, she snatched the buzzer, and condescendingly demonstrate how the buzzer system works as if I was a naughty five year old that refused to learn. Whatever, we eventually got our table. Upon receiving our check at the end of the meal, we realized that they had charged us CHF8 for mineral water. First of all, CHF8 for water?? I don't care where it's from, that's a scam. Second, we had specfically asked our waiter for tap water, which he had acknowledged. Understanding that there could be mistakes, we pointed it out to the maitre d' (you have to pay at the front, not at your table). She refused to take it off our tab, saying that even if they did make a mistake we drank it and therefore would have to pay for it. She went on to lecture us that mineral water was better for you anyway (who is she to tell me I shouldn't be filling my own body with industrial water?!). Her attitude was absolutely deplorable, with her demanding "what do you want me to do about it?" and trying to dismiss our presence by turning away from us. We eventually called our waiter over and got our CHF8 back, but not without leaving a really bad taste in our mouths. FOOD It's really unfortunate that the food review has to be relegated to the end, but by the end of the evening, I barely remembered what the food tasted like. Which is all the more unfortunate, because when I dig past the horrible lady, I recall the food being really quite good. We had two pizzas (a margherita pizza and a strombolli), and the dough was actually really good. the margherita had mozzerella cheese slices that looked really fresh, but in order for the cheese to keep it's shape, they had waited until the pizza had cooled, and it came out a bit lukewarm. The sausage on the strombolli was very flavorful, and I particularly liked that, despite the wetness of the ingredients, the dough didn't turn out to be overly soggy. My dish was the house-made gnocchi, which had a wonderful texture, but was otherwise simply good hearty pasta in tomato sauce and cheese that probably didn't warrant the CHF21.50 price tag. The desserts were also wonderful, and absolutely huge. They're a bit pricey at around CHF10-15, but definitely big enough to share. I don't know what their policies are on number of orders per table, but as long as it's allowed, I would probably share a pizza/entree and go for dessert. But then again, service-wise, my experience at Luigia isn't something I'm looking forward to repeating anytime soon. read more

I went there in a group of 4 on a Saturday night and we waited for 40min at the bar to be seated, since they don't take reservations. I'd advise to arrive early if you want to be seated soon. I was really impressed with this place. I am visiting family in Geneve for a week, and stopped by here. The pizza was better than most places I've been to in the United States that serve Neopolitan style pizzas. I like the atmosphere, hidden off the street. Lights hanging, sort of feels like a place you would find in New York. Started with some fried calamari that was good. I liked how the breading wasn't super thick, it was mostly calamari. Served with some lemon and tartar sauce. I got the Mediterraneo pizza. Awesome pizza. The crust was super soft and tasty. Ricotta cheese, small cerise tomatoes, oregano, basil, oil, and some other type of cheese. I was very impressed. I sampled some of my sister's spaghetti bolognese and that was also good, the meat had good flavor. Overall this place delivered with the food. Seems like an up and coming trendy spot in Geneva. I would recommend it to anyone, whether they live here or are just visiting. read more

I have been to luigias few times in the past 2 years and every time I promise myself not to go back again, but for we reason or another I end up going with friends who want to try it. First there is no reservations, so you end up standing in line from 45 to 1.15 minutes as was the case this weekend. The Italian host who decides the seating gives preference to his friends, and is very rude when you point out someone came after you and was seated before you. So you feel worthless a a place you came to be served. Finally you sit down, the waiters are as rude as the host ( probably they pick the rudest people to work there) it takes them 10 minutes to first serve you, when we complained the waiter said well some people waited half and hour!! The paste dishes are below mediocre, you are better off making home made pasta. The pizza was just ok nothing special. At the end we paid 100 chf per person for mediocre food, long wait and horrible service. I promised myself that really this time was my last ever. You are better off going to de Paulo's near the center, fast service, amazing Italian, great attitude and not as expensive! read more

The pizza was great... For Europe. Honestly (in general) the best pizzerias in Europe do not live up to the B+ pizzerias in NYC. Still it was a high quality 'za with a nice (but not showstopping) crust. Definitely very expensive (but this is in the center of Geneva, after all). The tiramisu, however, was to die for. If you're Italian, you should definitely go to Luigia--you'll fit right in and probably be treated better than other customers. Not that the service is bad toward the rest of us, it just lacks the warmth that the Italians receive. Try to ignore the bizarre and somewhat tacky neon lighting, and know that the place does get quite hot. We tried the fried calamari and loved it the first time, not as much on the second. The salads are disappointing--iceberg lettuce in the Ligure, though I understand why iceberg with delicate fennel and artichokes, but I suspect it's like that in all the salads and not because it's a culinary decision. Pizza is very good here but order off the more expensive specialty menu--we noticed a difference in quality. We haven't tried the pasta but will do so on the next visit. Desserts such as the standby tiramisu and the chiacchere (the menu doesn't do these justice--these are bite-sized fried balls of pizza dough served with powdered sugar and nutella) are excellent, but be warned that the plate of chiacchere is HUGE. If you manage to eat a serving by yourself, you are a pig. Overall this is one of the better Italian restaurants in Geneva (and I don't say that lightly, having complained now for 3 years that there don't seem to be any that serve food that doesn't taste like cynicism). read more

I heard great things about this place and I regret that it was so hot outside I could not eat pasta but opted for a sald instead. It was a grilled chicken caeser salad and it was perfect, no dressing on it, I used the oil and vinegar from the table. The chicken was melt in your mouth and everything else was great. We also ate a rosemary foccacia that was outstanding. The pizzas around me looked fabulous so I can't wait to come back. Its a bit tucked away on the street so when walking there make sure you look down the corridors so you dont pass it up. The waiter was super friendly. I have heard that they take no reservations and there is usually a wait. Lunch time right at noon and the place is yours. You are eating as the place starts to fill up. My daughter ate pasta here and told me it was like tha pasta we ate in Italy so I will be back for sure. read more

No doubt about it, the pizzas are delightful. And my fellow diners assure me the other dishes are just as good. But - you pay for what you get. They operate a two-tier system with the pizzas, and the gold circle pizzas are about double what you would pay in a normal Geneva pizzeria. And it's a bit of a shame that a place that knows how to make good pies would nonetheless keep a budget (& inferior) line. As other reviewers have note - big place, with it's own charm. Oh my, that was serious excellent take out. A lot of the time you loose a little something between eating at a restaurant and then having the take out version but this was very very good. The containers were very nice, not the usual tinfoil rubbish. You could tell everything was super freshly made which is also really nice. Quality is instant gratification. Also you know it's good when my husband eats there, spends the next day raving about it and then we get take out. In all honesty we'll probably order again next week. We're suckers for Italian. I think my only "complaint" which isn't really one would be that the menu is totally overwhelming! The pizzas are amazing and I don't think I can get pasta there considering that the pizzas are so incredible! But I did try the pastas and they were very good too! The Luigia in this address is my favorite than the one in Chemin de la Tourelle 2. The quality of the food or service does not change and the quality is excellent in both. It's more about the place itself and this one is more trendy I feel. But the other address is defintiely easier to get a table as they DON'T RESERVE. Their beer is excellent too and if you like truflles don't miss out the PETALE, but I'd rather get it as appetizer than as a meal because it's really copious. I also find it very affordable for its quality, it's the price of normal Italian restaurants in town, but Luigia's ingredients are very much superior than others. read more

Came here on a visit with friends and had a great dinner. It is quite the popular spot as we had to wait to get seated. It does not have much space for waiting and was a bit hot with so many people waiting ( which is why I have them 4 stars) Service was good and dinner was great. I had tagliatelle alla bolognese and it was fantastic!!!!! My husband had the special truffle pizza petals (I forget what it was called) and he really enjoyed his as well. He got the five petals and was not able to finish it. The group finished with the Nutella pizza desert. Yummy!!! I would recommend this place to others. I've tried a couple of the pizzas and haven't really found the perfect one for me. Lately, we've been going for the pastas (I recommend the Fusilli lunghi all'abruzzese.) This place is always crowded but it's usually only a few minutes before you're seated. It's a loud atmosphere so don't expect to carry-on a deep conversation with the people you're with. This is a popular place for birthdays, you can expect to hear the workers singing happy birthday at least once while you dine. This place is located at the end of a long hallway. Once you look down the hallway you cannot miss it as the name of the restaurant is brightly lit in white over the door way. I was surprised by how large the inside of this place was, open, and modern. I felt like I was in a restaurant in the US. This place does not take reservations so go early, or expect a wait. It was busy, packed full, when we arrived for lunch on a Sunday, but the service was super fast, impeccable. The pizza was great, and the grilled mixed fish was good. The service is in line with Swiss - you have to ask to be served. They are open on Sunday which is rare for many Geneva restaurants so it is always a good option for dinner.
