If you are lucky enough to visit Malcesine, you MUST ride the Funivia!…read more Well, I suppose having great weather with clear skies can also be an important factor... but I couldn't imagine visiting Malcesine without riding this tram ride up to the top of Mount Baldo. We went in February, when the snow-capped Dolomites are spectaculuar!! My only reqret is that we didn't plan better for this - - it would have been amazing to actually go skiing or snowboarding once we got to the top. But the price for two round-trip was 24EUR. The total length in time to get to the top is 20min. You actually take two different trams. One to the first stop - - and then a 2nd. The reason for the stop is because the line pivots a bit; it would be impossible to take a straight line up to the top. At the first stop, you wait approx 3-5 minutes for the next tram. Inside this small waiting area there's a really good "push-button" espresso machine - -super yummy caffe macchiato for only .70! (highly recommend) :) -- although sadly i bet the Italians think it's probably like "push-button cappuccinos" at american gas stations - ha!) I dunno.. i liked it! It was cute! So the next tram ride up, the car is 360 degrees circular - - pretty cool! And it stops at the top where there is a small restaurant, small shop, and restrooms. Clean tram ride - - friendly employees who we were able to speak some Italian and English with. This ride was a highlight of our trip - -amazing, amazing views of Lago di Garda; This is a MUST for all Lago di Garda visitors!

The gentleman at the cash register did give us a special discount, which was very nice. You need your ticket to get back on to come down the mountain, so make sure that you have it available. You can also hike down, but it looked like the hike was expected to take over an hour and, there was snow and ice on the ground so it did not seem to be a wise decision for the day we were there. There is a restaurant on top of the mountain and a small church that was locked up. We enjoyed our trip, but I'm sure it would have been much more impactful if there had been a great view visible.

We rented from the SkiService at Signalbahn which is at the base of the cable car and a 5 minute walk from out hotel. We also reserved the ski/boot storage so that our boots would be dry and warm each morning when we arrived. The service from all the staff was incredibly attentive and helpful. They were very knowledgeable about the wide variety of skis they had in their fleet and were excellent at determining the appropriate ski for each renter. They have multiple shops around town and on the slopes, both Corviglia and Corvatsch, and invite customers to swap skis at any time if they are not delighted with their current ski. For ski rental in St. Moritz, look no further....these are the "go to" guys.

They have several shops in the area. We used the one in St. Moritz just below the Corviglia ski area. I dealt with Lucus who was outstanding. Each day when i arrived my ski's and dry boots were brought upstairs. When I returned at night they carried all my gear downstairs. The shop is lovely and filled with beautiful ski wear, but there is no pressure at all for you to buy. They take great care of their clients and do it for a very fair price. They provide water and expresso, coffee, chocolates, etc. gratis and do so with a smile. this shop was an absolute pleasure to deal with and the best rental shop I have ever used.

I noticed many people renting mountain bikes and taking them with them, many hikers, and there are several adventure type parks with lots of different activities to take part in as well. I recently went to the top with my friend, and at the top there are MANY different hikes that you can start on. We only had a short time so we took a easy 15 minute walk on a easy path through the Wildkirchli Caves. In the caves prehistoric finds have been made and there is a little museum talking about the history of the caves housed in a old hermit dwelling. There were actual hermits that used to inhabit the caves as a place of worship from 1658-1853. At the top there is also a restaurant and guest house with 16 guestrooms. During the winter you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding. Definitely a must if you are in Appenzell and want to enjoy the local beauty. I want to go back when I have more time and can do so more extensive hiking!
