Maintenance is very quick to respond to requests (usually within the same day), and they fix things right the first time. And Melissa in the office is fantastic! Seriously, that lady deserves a medal for fielding what I'm sure is a ton of phone calls and emails, and still being super friendly and accommodating. They also have an online portal where you can pay rent (without surcharges!) and submit maintenance requests, which is great. My apartment is in an older building, but is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. It's in a great neighborhood (Volker), and just a few blocks from lots of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. And the best part -- it's not costing me an arm and a leg to live here! Anyone who's renting in KC has experienced prices sky-rocketing in recent years. After being priced out of my last apartment, I was worried I couldn't afford to live in Midtown anymore. But luckily, I discovered Ellis, who seem to actually care about their residents, instead of trying to nickel and dime them to death. I would recommend them to anyone!

I have been extremely disappointed with my experience with Ellis Real Estate, particularly with how…read morean ongoing HVAC issue in my apartment has been handled. I moved into my apartment in May and immediately noticed that the back bedroom was significantly warmer than the rest of the apartment and had little to no airflow from the central AC. Since then, I have submitted five maintenance requests and had multiple visits from maintenance and an HVAC contractor. The bedroom vent was eventually confirmed to be disconnected from the ductwork and was finally repaired in August, but the larger HVAC problem remains unresolved. Even after the vent was repaired, my AC has run continuously for more than 24 hours at times and has been unable to maintain 72 degrees in the apartment. During hot weather, the temperature has reached approximately 77-78 degrees inside, despite the system running constantly. My projected electric bill has also approached $300 for a roughly 1,200-square-foot, two-bedroom apartment. What has been most frustrating is the lack of communication and follow-through. Multiple maintenance requests were marked as completed even though the underlying problem continued. I have repeatedly contacted management, and after being told I would receive an update and repair timeline, I had to follow up again when no response came. Even after finally repairing the bedroom vent, management responded as though the HVAC issue had been resolved, despite the fact that I have repeatedly explained that the central AC itself is still unable to adequately cool the apartment. I understand that HVAC repairs can take time, especially during hot weather. What I find unacceptable is having to repeatedly ask for updates and explain that the same problem is still occurring without receiving a clear plan to address it. I have tried to be patient and work with management throughout this process, but after months of dealing with this issue, I am extremely frustrated with how it has been handled.

The two previous reviews are very incorrect and untrue. Mental illnesses are very real and can be very life altering. I am now on meds and am fully aware that I made a mistake and there is no excuse for it. This apartment complex is absolutely wonderful. I adore living here. The area is good, the people are good. The manager has completely altered my veiws on renting. I used to think that the entirety of the landlord scheme was all money hungry and horrifically capitalistic. I now see that there are a few bright shining lights and one of them is the manager. She is one of the most drop dead gorgeous and wonderful women I have ever met (don't mind my gay I apologize lol) She is understanding, kind, fair and just wants the people surrounding her to be happy and comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom could have a lil bit more counter space in my opinion but it's not all that bad. I just like more than the average person. Please disregard my previous reviews.

Then why rush a customer to put 1700 down within 6hrs of seeing it. Then when I do, you can't even give me a move in date or estimate, but tell me it's at least going to be 2 weeks till able to move in.. Not everyone has 2 weeks to wait, after already putting 1700 cash deposit... But this company could care less about their customers time.. They're on their own time and don't feel the need to make the customer aware. Which is standard business practice and professionalism,... for most.. when a company take someone's money you give them set dates,, Not put the customer on the backburner, left hanging with no set dates or answers.. Seems they use people's deposits to make repairs before they even move in... they're condescending enough to disregard the customers desire of having set dates.. SHADY COMPANY WITH SHADY PRACTICES... well be disputing the deposit with our bank and getting refund since they could care less about us once we put the deposit down.
