Grand Bazaar NYC - Great handmade bags! 3/2025

We visited Grand Bazaar NYC on the Upper West Side and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The market is…read moreone of the oldest and largest weekly flea markets in New York City, running every Sunday with both indoor and outdoor vendors. It has a fun and lively vibe with a mix of vintage items, handmade crafts, jewelry, artwork, clothing, collectibles, and food stands all in one place. What we liked most was how easy it was to spend a few hours just walking around and exploring different local vendors and small businesses. The market feels very New York, with lots of unique finds and creative products you do not usually see in regular stores.

It made my visit to the Bazaar all the more pleasant. I've been coming to Grand Bazaar for more years than I care to remember, having taken a break for ten -- okay twenty -- years. Can't put my finger on why, perhaps I'm not as interested as I used to be. While the market is vibrant and busy, it's not as it was. Perhaps not as much diversity in wares. (I used to get a lot of pottery, art and vintage jewelry.) Back in the day, my friends and I would go to the East Village and buy funky old fur jackets for a song. I kind of had that in the back of my mind coming here. (There are many vintage coat vendors.) But prices have risen considerably. (What hasn't?!) The market is open Sundays, year 'round. Despite buying nothing, I know I'll be back. (Maybe coats get cheaper when it's warmer.) Plus, I like strolling around on the upper westside, which has a different flavor than the eastside, where I live.

I'm always down for a fun flea market, give me a date and time, and direct the way lol…read moreNote: this flea market is not located at Chelsea Market. This flea is a few blocks away from the market , within walking distance. What I loved about this particular one, was that it wasn't overwhelmingly huge. Just the perfect amount of vendors selling quite a few vintage items and antiques. I zeroed in on the $10 or less tent and the brooch/pin/jewelry vendor. Ended up buying some vintage Dutch Delft brooches for a good deal. Don't hesitate to bargain. Check my pic out for flea market deets on days, times, and address.

It is convenient to get to since it sits right near the 28th St (1, N, R, W) subway stations. While it is a fun spot to browse for vintage treasures like cameras, clothing. decor, purses, jewelry, it is not necessarily a major destination spot (in my opinion). I would only recommend stopping by if you are already staying or hanging out in the area. Depending on the month or the day, I have spent anywhere from 10 minutes to up to an hour here, it really just depends on your mood, the weather and how much you want to dig through the treasures. The vendors are friendly and no one is pushy. Plus, the prices are very reasonable. TIP: some vendors do take electronic payments, but definitely bring cash just in case.

Chelsea Market exceeded my expectations. It's huge, nicely decorated with many shops and…read morerestaurants to browse and choose from. Prices are higher, still, not too bad because the quality of products justifies that. Clean restrooms, from bakeries to Italian stores, Mexican eateries, Indian, a bit of everything to pick from - everything from breakfast to dinner, to snacks. Donuts shops, ice-cream, specialized grocery stores, cheese stores. I'd love to come back someday and indulge some more! A must if you live in NY! If you visit, make time (stop here if you visit the High Line, Whitney Museum or Little Island). Chelsea Market has a bit for everyone.

I love the Ridgewood Market!…read more This Sunday was the first time that I attended. It actually took place on Summerfield Street, which is right near my house (so I had no excuse not to attend!). So my local artisans and businesses were represented here! Not only establishments from Ridgewood (Norma's, Rudy's) but there are tons of other cool vendors from all over NYC represented here! MartiniHandmades (from whom I got an awesome terrarium and bracelet), an awesome empanada table, someone serving shrimp and grits! So many local artists, jewelry makers and thrift stores! I know that this market is awesome, because even my boyfriend, who usually does not enjoy these types of things, found several vendors, items and foods that he loved! Score! Everyone was friendly and some vendors even took credit cards! What a great way to get to meet people from your neighborhood and support local artisans! I can't wait to do all of my holiday shopping at Ridgewood Market!

I guess I'll review this since it is on here, but it is really a recurrent event rather than a…read more"place". It actually is a monthly event held at Gottscheer Hall; I stopped by the initial one in April. It is categorized on Yelp as a "flea market" at moment, but that is really a misnomer; while there were a few booths selling used goods it is predominantly an indoor arts & crafts fair, with some booths selling food products to boot. This might be a good place to check if you were buying gifts; the majority of the goods are likely more appealing to women than men from my judgement. One aspect I do appreciate is that the vendor pool seems to display a relatively diverse range of ages, ethnicities, and tastes and the same goes for the crowd perhaps due to advertising that is also locally-focused; it doesn't feel so much like some of the similar craft markets held in other boroughs, but has a less-pretentious, very neighborhoodly Queens vibe. It seems to, consciously or not, embody Ridgewood quite well rather than attempting to replicate an outside aesthetic in this old neighborhood. Hopefully it becomes even more diverse and representative of the neighborhood as the event evolves. The best part is seeing so many people at Gottscheer Hall for a public event during daytime hours, as well as being able to get eggs and other brunchtime foods they don't normally serve.
