Seco Blowdry Studio - Hollywood waves blowout done by Nicole

Seco Blowdry Studio was a life saver for my dinner event! I needed my hair done for an event last…read moreminute and I was looking for a place that was close by work and decently priced. Their online booking system was very straightforward and easy to book, and I was able to book a "Hollywood Waves" session with Nicole. It was nice that they offered the $45 price without hair wash. It's a small shop located inside the Colonnade Mall on South Lake Ave. You can park in the parking lot in the back and it's located on the bottom floor of the Mall. Nicole was very sweet and I showed her a few pictures of inspiration. I liked that she listened to what I wanted, I had mentioned that my hair tends to frizz when I have curls so I'm glad she was able to tame my hair so it didn't at the end. Nicole is very talented and she made the experience so relaxing, and it seemed so easy to make my hair so beautiful.

Update: Changing this from 1 to 3 stars as the salon management has reached out, to try and help…read more I'm not trying to blame Seco or other stylists for this, but I will leave the photos to reflect Tamar's work. My opinion on her is unchanged and I would never let her cut my hair again. I came to the salon with textured bangs that were tapered and longer at the ends. They were nicely cut by Nicole, though they had grown out. I was so happy with her work, I booked a cut with her a few weeks later. I received a message the day of the appointment that she was sick and I was now with Tamar. No option to reschedule with Nicole so I went with it. I asked for a trim all around, she saw how my bangs were when I came in but she washed and took my textured, tapered bangs and cut them, wet, straight across. I asked for them to hit the bottom of my eyebrows and they barely touched them when they were wet. I knew they would shrink and began to worry. After she dried the bangs I began to cry. They were so short, with the taper section hacked to the same level, I look like I have a really bad bowl cut on the forefront of my face. I told her that they were so short and she had cut the area where they were shaped and tapered off at the sides. She said we'd dry the rest of the hair first. I tried to trust in the process, but after she gave me a Peg Bundy blowout I could not control the tears steaming down my face. I felt so ugly. Still do. She flat ironed the bangs, to try and make them lay longer and took the cape off ready to send me on my way. She never asked if I was ok or what was wrong. I asked if she could try and add some taper back and she painfully dragged her scissors down my now dry hair. I kept quiet after that because it was only getting worse and I was losing hair to work with. I don't know why, but I tipped her and left still in tears. I had to get out of there. I worked in customer service for years. If I had someone sitting in my chair visibly crying I would at least ask them if they were ok and if I were a salon I would never want anyone leaving feeling the way I did. She could not have cared less about me.

I've been to about 3 different head spas now and this one had very nice and friendly service…read more It's more of a 4.5/5 star rating since I can't give half stars lol. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I wish I had more of a neck/shoulder massage as I've received those at other head spas & because my styling of hair was a little frizzy (I think maybe because of my hair type, they weren't used to styling it maybe). Now for the great things about this place! The ladies that helped my boyfriend and I were very kind and gave us both quality service. We both left feeling very satisfied and relaxed. I love that they did several cycles of washing, massaging, rinsing, and repeating on my scalp. Some of the products felt nice and refreshing (maybe tea tree or mint). The seats/beds had massagers built in which was awesome! I hadn't seen that at other spas before! Lastly I wanna mention I found them on Groupon and when I called to see if they had same day availability and mentioned Groupon, they said they could price match in person (assuming since Groupon takes a cut). I appreciated that and was happy to do so! Overall, I'd recommend this head spa (bonus points because the food in the area was GOOD).

I booked a 90 minute experience with Tokyo Hair Washing Spa through ClassPass for 41 credits. Each…read morecredit is between $2-3 depending on which rate plan you're on. This 90 minute is equivalent to their $148 service. I am writing this as someone who has been to many headspa businesses in OC and LA and I usually get the 90 min services. When I arrived I circled the area once to see where the best spot was to park. They had street parking in front of the business but Las Tunas is main street, but I preferred to park on the small street nearby for safety reasons. I came a little early as instructed on ClassPass. They lady told me to sit but then she was distracted with other things. I'm like in that case can I use the restroom? Might as well be productive while I'm waiting for her. They have 1 station in front for the initial scalp exam, 2 head spa beds with curtains as separation, and 2 stations in the back for blow drying. So the 90 min Scalp Spa here comes with a few typos on their menu but it's basically a scalp exam, steam eye mask, scalp clean and relax, hair follicle deep clean, scalp care, hair hydration, hair repair, sleep therapy, nano hair care, light therapy, shoulder/neck tension relief. The thing I like most is the massage from the message bed they use with the treatment. It massages your back, arms, and legs throughout your head spa treatment. The lady was nice... but... rough... Often she would pull on strands of my hair and it would hurt. It might be the type of glove they use because the other head spas use gloves too but it never pulls my hair so painfully. Even with the massage it never hits the right spot. It was one of those treatments where you can't wait for it to be over. Also compared to other similar business types there was no enclosed steam mask and treatment for my hair, and the massage did not go down to the shoulder area. When the wash was over we moved to the chair for blowdrying. Ugh also clumsy with the blow dry. I have really long hair and at times she was just manually section it without clips and hold it up with the other hand and pulled on my hair some more. Sigh. What torture. Compared to similar businesses I did not get a post exam to see how much it improved after. There was no shoulder and neck massage on the chair. My hair was flat and felt ichy and oily. I don't know what she put in my hair but I'm not in a fan. I literally wanted to wash it off. Normally these treatments leave me feeling lush and full of volume, not flat like this. Also not great for any first timers. She didn't really explain anything throughout the process. There was a language barrier, which I don't mind, but you should know the basics for your profession. I liked the massage bed... she was nice... but I did not enjoy the service. There is another similar business a few blocks away that I prefer so I'll stick to Silk Pro Head Spa.

When I arrived, he seemed completely unprepared. Instead of acknowledging the mix-up, he blamed me for not confirming, despite our prior communication. His attitude was rude and unprofessional throughout the appointment. In my experience, he also does not treat all paying customers equally. The level of service and attitude seem to depend on who you are, which is disappointing when everyone is paying for a professional service. The price I was quoted was $350, but I ended up paying $480. To make matters worse, I wasn't happy with the results. The work felt messy, I didn't love the blowout or the color, and he did something different from what we had discussed. It felt like he was experimenting with techniques on a paying client rather than practicing beforehand, while leaving me to pay for a result I never asked for. For those prices, I expect professionalism, consistency, respect, and clear communication. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. I'm glad I took my business elsewhere. Chao, Bobby.

My hair was so bad beyond repair and Ken did magic with it. It's so much better now. I love the vibe of the hair salon. The ambiance was great. It's very modern and very stylish.

WHEN: Tue @10am I…read morehad my hair done by Kristie and her husband Ken 9 years ago, and absolutely loved it. Which is why I reached out again when I wanted to do something fun with my hair for my 40th birthday. Since this is in an outdoor shopping center, there is free parking right in front. Although I no longer live in LA, I spoke with Kristie and she was just so over the top helpful in fitting me in into Ken's busy schedule. She was already in Taiwan for additional hair training and would respond to me, going back and forth between me and Ken. And mind you, this is before Lunar New Year, when most people would get their haircut! My day started right at opening time (10am) with a haircut. I gave him an idea of what I wanted and he just went with it. I will say this honestly: I've never liked my haircut this much. Why did it take me 40 years??? Anyway, we then had my hair washed and started with the first round of bleach around 11am, and then touch up. By 1pm, I decided to eat my lunch. I came prepared this time! Quick story: 9 years ago, I had no idea this type of hair procedure would take all day, and therefore did not bring lunch. Ken and Kristie fed me lunch! They are the best people, I swear. Anyway, after a rinse, we did another round of bleach with touch ups. I made it more difficult for Ken because I had dyed my hair a darker shade to cover my greys. I'm so sorry Ken! By 4pm it was no COLORING TIME! Ken started with the purple roots, then added the silver to the rest, with rounds of touching up. 5:30pm is when we did our last round of wash, then blow dry and a bit of styling. After a quick photo session, I was out by 6pm! I really appreciate them both for making this work, especially when I took up an entire day. Ken and Kristie are the best, and I will travel back to LA the next time I'd like my hair done again. Thank you SO much again Ken and Kristie!
