I usually have an okay experience at this Lucky location, but recently I had a really disappointing visit. I bought a Talenti Gelato Layers (Black Raspberry Vanilla Parfait) from the freezer section, and when I opened it, it looked completely off. Compared to what it's supposed to look like--layered and delicious, as shown on their ads and even other stores--it was a melted, re-frozen mess. This kind of temperature abuse can lead to serious food safety concerns like salmonella or other bacteria, especially with dairy-based products. It tasted terrible too--completely inedible. I've seen this issue before at this store, not just with ice cream, but sometimes in the meat department too, which is barely open most of the time. That said, the staff here are genuinely friendly. Veronica and a few others are always super helpful and kind, so it's not a staffing issue--it's a quality control and product handling issue. It's official! Lucky's is now the most expensive grocery store on the peninsula. Roberts, Draeger's and Bianchini's are LESS expensive than Lucky's in Woodside Plaza. I literally took pictures of Pete's Coffee, Rao's frozen foods, half and half, organic berries and Lucky's is always AT LEAST a dollar more. I have yet to buy blueberries or Strawberries from Lucky's that are not moldy in the center on the container. The store is filthy, over-priced, and food is unsafe to eat. The store itself is great, but the parking lot at 200 Woodside Plz, Redwood City, CA 94061, needs immediate attention. I'm almost eight months pregnant, and while walking to my car, I stepped on a huge bump in the concrete--likely caused by tree roots. The raised area was dangerously uneven, and I ended up rolling my ankle badly. I was immobile for weeks and am still recovering. Thankfully, I caught myself by grabbing onto my car, but this could have been much worse for me and my baby. I've been a very regular customer at this location for about 10 years. Last Sunday, a meth head approached me menacingly in the parking lot and brandished a hypodermic needle at me and stepped toward my service dog with this implement. Attempting to address this with store management resulted in the manager cancelling two meetings they scheduled to address it with me and then hung up the phone on me when I called and when I informed him that I was recording at the outset of the call, before allowing me to explain that my purpose for recording my conversation was a matter of ADA disability accommodation. You cannot deny a general business call with someone who is disabled and needs to record as a disability accommodation. That is denying them service on the basis of their disability. I'll never spend my money at this location again. Please look at your expiration dates, food is literally past due, deli soup from cereals, bread, cold meats and cheese and more! Service, they pick and choose who they want to serve properly with a greeting and not. Races, cashiers! Third, they TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SENIORS! Pros: It's next door to a ton of things. Fairly clean, stocked and organized, compared to some other supermarkets. They renovated a while ago with nice looking wood floors. Prices are ok. Not phenomenal but not a phenomenal ripoff either. Parking's a plenty at Woodside plaza. Cons: Terrible self checkout system. The scanner software seized up 3 times while checking out and required an attendant to unlock it each time. You won't save a minute doing this yourself. I go to Lucky a lot and generally don't have issues. They stock most things that I would need and prices are fair. Their rewards program is decent and they give you $ off coupons for 100 points and up. They also give you free food sometimes to try out as part of the rewards program. The produce section is not super good though. I feel like the berries often have mold on them so I would double check the boxes before you buy. They do have bok Choy which is nice, so I don't have to go to the Asian markets. read more

This store is a bit dated, but the staff is absolutely wonderful- and always kind and helpful. I'm not impressed with the seafood counter at all. Take a whiff as you walk by, it's just not very fresh. A few times we have bought crab legs, and after cooking, it was obvious they were not fresh...(ammonia smell=spoiled). Also, because it is such a high-volume store/ check the dates on everything. (Even the sealed tartar sauce!) We stopped by at Lucky to grab food for our picnic on Sunday. BF ordered the pastrami sandwich.. generous portion of sliced pastrami, delicious! According to the BF who frequents buying safeway sandwiches for lunch.... Lucky makes better sandwich :) We also grap the 8 pieces of fried chicken.. and as one who frequent buying Safeway fried chicken... I also think Lucky's fried chicken taste muccchhh better!! What impressed me the most was that workers at the deli were SUPER HELPFUL! I asked them if we could get a couple of paper plates (for our picnic) and she gave us a couple of plastic containers (the bottom of the container for the rotisserie chicken). I also asked for some condiments and she generously gave us some ketchup and mayonnaise. Seriously peeps, eating fried chicken with ketchup and mayonnaise are awesomely delicious!! We also grabbed a couple bottles of vitamin water and peach tea and a petite lemon cake for dessert. The lemon cake was a bit too sugary just like the usual supermarket cake. First of all things, The first time I shopped in here, the bagger was supposed to be on the job while she bagged for me and my friend, but while on the job, she was on the phone texting and told us to hold on and wait. I don't think that was exceptional. Oh and she wasn't young, like most teens. She was older, about in her 50 or 60's. Also, since this whole pandemic happened. They never work quickly when there is a line. They put on two checkers at peak time - 5-7 PM, like when you need to get in and out to make dinner. And forget about the 3's a crowd crap. One star for the only FEW workers in this store who actually are pleasant to be around. Everyone else seems VERY UNHAPPY and generally unfriendly I get odd and negative vibes that leave you feeling like a crap customer on your way out. People are either stressed, spaced out and lack attentiveness, phobic and downright unfriendly. I have had a family member say the same thing and we only shop here now if there are a few items we need to pick up and have to stay closest to home. The store itself is small with unimpressive departments throughout the store and the floral is pitiful.
