    Shoretime fun

Do you like super fun arcades filled with classic games on the boardwalk with a view of the ocean? Lucky Leo's has been on the boardwalk in the middle of the shore scene that is Seaside Heights for over 60 years. I've heard that the original Leo was actually really lucky and won the lottery a couple of times himself, now retired to Florida, his son runs the place and this arcade is fun fun FUN! Sure, you will go through money super quickly and there are never enough tickets to win the prize you want, but this is the shore at it's best and judging from the hordes of smiling people going in and out of Lucky Leos, i'm not the only one who feels that way!

Amazing! Our favorite arcade on the boardwalk! The nicest staff and great games and crane machines. Jackie is awesome at the counter and Don helping with the games that needed an attendant. We couldn't have had a better time. My kids loved all the Pride options and left super happy. Yes we spent a lot of money but by choice and not without it being completely worth the memories and smiles we took away with us.

Ahhh, good old boardwalk amusements! They have pretty cool, original games, and "pop culture-relevant" prizes. My favorite was an Angry Birds game (pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/lucky-leos-seaside-heights?select=TCx6S9JJmxovFXQDmpG65Q#jcmMxs0YepvM9Ey1dt2WkQ) where you actually slingshot stuffed animal birds, trying to get them inside of the pigs' mouths. Although difficult, it was a blast to try! Everyone here seemed friendly, both with patrons, and with one-another. You can tell this is a family-run operation that must have been passed down through the generations.

I have been coming to this arcade as a child. Luckily this was one of the few to survive both Hurricane Sandy and the fire that took out the remaining half of the boardwalk that survived Sandy... truly Lucky indeed. As far as standup cabinet arcade games, they are a thing of the past it seems, very few arcades still have any worth playing. Leo's has a few stand up shooter games and a few seated racing ones but that's pretty much it. The rest seem to all be geared towards prize redemption via ticket/token or crane games. The Wizard of Oz game is really fun and pretty addicting to play however it's like the modern day slot machines, it makes a lot of noise, gives you mediocre bonuses and as you continue to feed it money it pays out a lot less then all of the noise and action it makes. The crane games are not like they used to be where it actually just required skill. Now they are all based on amount of money dumped into them and amount of time spent playing rather. The more you spend, the stronger the crane claws get... On top of that you still need to be skillful enough to grab the prize. Don't believe me, YouTube it... each of the new types of machines have a computers that monitor the amount of times it will pay out as well as the setting for strength of the claw, Dump $10 in for the 95 cent prize... You will be broke... but your kid will be happy. Last but not least they have the skee-ball (not the classic yellow one) and basketball shooter games.

Lovely henna tattoo work by this artist.

We had a super fun visit here- it's been many years but in general they seem to have rebounded well enough post-Sandy/fire. Spent a beautiful and sunny afternoon walking the boards, playing games and eating delicious Jersey pizza. Our daughter and her cousins noticed the Henna Tattoo booth and decided they wanted one. They each turned out beautifully- the artist did a fantastic job on the feather and boat for my nieces. I especially loved my daughter's Kanji symbol for bird. Really awesome work, and they were only $5 each. You can get more elaborate designs for $10-$25 as well. Afterward, we went inside and the kids got their skee-ball on. They each had a mountain of tickets to redeem for their cute prizes. A great time at Lucky Leo's, we'll definitely return the next time we're back East.

New Crane game to win tickets

Best arcade on the boardwalk. I have been playing here literally since I was an infant. My parents and I played Skee-Ball here when i was 8 months old. The cranes here are good as well, even though they have the reputation to drop the prize before it gets to the chute. The new ticket cranes are difficult. I HAVE A SECRET TO TELL YOU!! The way to win the new ticket cranes is to use the 3 plays for $1 option and pick up tickets close to the prize chute walls and move them closer to the wall of the chute for the first two turns. For the third turn, drop the crane so that one of the three "fingers" is hanging over the chute and the other two fingers are in the tickets. When the crane closes, the tickets attached to the two fingers in the back will spill over into the chute. Congratulations, you've won. The best part about Lucky Leo's is the Wizard of Oz machines. They have 6 Wizard machines and they are awesome. You shoot coins and make others fall, along with prize coins and cards. Unfortunately, wizard prizes cannot be doubled by my diamond VIP card, since they are the most popular game.

While on a road trip heading south, we decided to explore a few spots. Originally, we planned to stop in Atlantic City, but since we weren't getting tattoos (our longtime artist is based there), it didn't make much sense to go. Thankfully, we figured that out just before hitting Exit 82 on the Garden State Parkway! It felt a little surreal--and honestly, nostalgic--to walk around and see the places we'd only watched on MTV. Naturally, the first place we headed was The Shore Store (also reviewed separately!). We purchased a round-trip Sky Ride pass for two for under $20. The ride was smooth, peaceful, and gave us a great overhead view of the pubs, games, and amusement rides the Jersey Shore crew once enjoyed. After the ride, we grabbed some snacks, including shrimp and fries. It was a cool, crispy, not greasy, meal that hit the spot. Overall, this stop was a fun, quick detour full of throwback energy and beach-town charm. If you're ever nearby and want a little slice of pop culture and coastal boardwalk vibes, it's worth the visit!

There are 2 separate events that coincide on the same days (in 2024, it was on June 2nd and the upcoming Sunday, September 29th - save the date!) Dog Royalty Days allow the dogs on the boardwalk (but not the beach) and Casino Pier & Breakwater Beach allows dogs at their outdoor amusement park on the boardwalk to ride on the chariot in the carousel, indulge in doggy sundaes from Mrs. C's Waffles & Ice Cream, enter a doggy costume contest with prizes, take part in a photo op with a beachy background, and enjoy discounted drinks and ride wristbands!
