Well, this turned out to be a very disappointing experience. So much so, that we won't be returning...ever. First, we walk in and take a seat at the bar. Wait about a minute for the person behind the bar to say something useful, like, "Would you like to see our wine list?" He says nothing, so I ask to see the wine list instead. He then points to the wall behind him where a number of bottles were hanging and says "This is our wine list." It took me a few seconds to realize he thought my wife and I could read the labels of the bottles hanging on the wall from 10 feet away. Never mind that many of the labels weren't facing forward. I told him we couldn't tell what was what, so he started reading them off one-by-one, which didn't really help the situation. Then, I asked to see the food menu because we had intended on eating dinner there. Instead, he tells us they only have chips because the cooler went out in the afternoon and just got repaired a little while ago. He said that if we were still there in 45 minutes the food would be ready then. That got me wondering what he meant by that. As far as I knew the only thing Emma's serves are cold sandwiches - so what did it matter whether the cooler was cold enough or not. Whatever food that was in there would've had to have been moved out of and then back into the cooler so it wouldn't go bad. Waiting for the repaired cooler to go down in temperature would have made no difference. These are hand-made sandwiches. As long as they didn't go unrefrigerated the deli meat would be just fine. We decided to not pursue having dinner there since we probably would have ended up getting sick. It gets better, though. Next, my wife asks what Chardonnay's they have. He doesn't know, but plucks a couple off the wall. We decided to go with an organic one and asked for a couple of glasses. He then opened the bottle and was about to pour the wine when my wife and I both said, "Stop!" Don't you have anything that isn't room temperature?" He was really going to pour us room temperature white wine from the bottle he grabbed from the wall. WTF? He did find a bottle in the cooler behind the bar and poured us a couple of glasses. The wine wasn't room temperature, but it wasn't cold either. Neither one of us liked the taste and both of us started getting a headache from it before we even finished our glasses. Meanwhile, the host pretty much forgot about us and was instead talking to his Unabomber-looking friend the whole time. After that, we decided we'd had enough, paid the bill, and went somewhere else to eat. All those great reviews Emma's has touting excellent service, great food, and a friendly host were not meant for us, apparently. We drive by this place all the time and have never stopped in. Today, I was running errands and decided to stop in. Being a deli, I thought I could pick up a pastrami. I decided to order the London Broil on a Pretzel Roll, with 3-Pepper Colby Cheese and Horseradish mayo. Plenty of meat on the sandwich, well made (kudos to the bartender) and fresh. Really enjoyed it. The one thing to be prepared for is they are a bit slow in serving. They aren't ignoring folks. Just a bit relaxed, methodical (very methodical), etc. Given there was only 1 other person she was serving ahead of me, I'd hate to think how they deal with 10+ folks coming in for lunch or dinner. They were very polite, and it was a really nice environment to hang. But if you are in a "rush", you might choose another venue. All in all, the food was good. Best lunch meat sandwich I've ever had. I came in here yesterday afternoon for lunch, we walked in and happened to be the only ones in the restaurant. It was really great because we were able to get to know Katherine and more about her business. The decor is great, very welcoming and there is an awesome gaming area (for those of you 21 or older). Katherine said she is getting another gaming machine some time soon that happens to be one of the only in the state so it's more of a Lucky Emma's exclusive. Could be really neat. But, anyways.. The food was great. The roll for which my sandwich was made on was very fresh, the lunch meats are Boar's ahead (best deli meat available) and the toppings for my sandwich were very fresh. Pricing? $9.00 for a sandwich which comes with a choice of roll, cheese and 1 meat, which is half a pound per meat you order (each additional 1/2 pound of meat is $3.00). Add chips and a drink for $2.00. Soup of the day is $4.00. It's easy to drop 40 bucks here among two people when ordering alcohol. And, speaking of alcohol.. Katherine recommended a great beer and was willing to help select one to my exact liking - they have at least 20 different beers here. I had a Coney Island Orange Cream Ale and it was incredible. Very sweet which was exactly what I was looking for, for a Friday afternoon. First time being here and I'll be back in the near future for sure. It was a fantastic 5-star sit down dining experience.
