They sell lots of fancy pastries, with the prices to match, lol. I've tried the Lychee Rose cake $11.50. It was served in a round container the size of a small drinking glass. The lychee and Rose flavours were pronounced, but the rose dominated and I would have preferred the reverse. The top had a light sprinkling of tiny real rose petal pieces. The cake was sponge cake and was soft and moist. The cream was airy and fluffy. It was tasty, but a bit pricey for the portion size. I've also tried their Korean macarons ($3.90 each). Korean macarons are like French macarons except there's a lot of filling and it's a thick buttery cream. I'm not a fan of the filling. It's too rich for me. However, if you like these types of macarons these are well made. My overall assessment is that the desserts look pretty, the taste is good, but you're paying more for the aesthetics. Service is courteous and efficient. The cafe is also really pretty inside. Very Instagramble ;) It's in a plaza, so lots of free parking. (25)

I love the first Dao location that opened in Ottawa…read more Maybe I expected too much for this location which is a a 3*, A-OK, in my books. We went on a Saturday around 5p. The seating and tables weren't being attended to, so there were crumbs at and on every available seating/table combo. The garbage in the seating area was overflowing. Customer service at the cash was cheerful and reasonably efficient. The barrista failed us, as, with only our order, it took a while to receive it. My flat white, which should be smooth with a slightly sweet finish was bitter and acidic. Sigh. Lots of people seemed to be enjoying themselves. The pastries are as stunning and tasty as at the other location. This location is also quite beautiful with an airy feel. Nice space for a chat. The seating along the window is likely best suited to singles, or under thirty crowd, as, to have a conversation, you either have to put a leg up on the bench or crane your torso and neck. I found it a bit uncomfortable. And since that was just about the only seating left...I'm wondering if others may have had similar experiences. This location is much closer to home for us... maybe I'll keep my Doa fix for when I'm in the west end of the city.

They have some seating available, including floor cushions. There is a sign that states limit to one hour when busy which I can understand. We arrived shortly before the post Iftar rush. It got very busy very quickly. Staff seemed to be overwhelmed as they get through all customers. We waited to have our order taken but sat down when they were busy. Eventually we placed our order and waited. Since we only got an adani chai and kunafa, we got our items quickly. The Adana chai was cooked well, it was creamy and flavourful. We got sugar sticks $.75 the concept it great, however, the stick breaks very quickly leaving your drink incredibly sweet so make sure to not leave it in there if you want a somewhat sweet tea. The kunafa was $12 for a piece. This was dissatisfying, it appeared to be re-heated because that was definitely not a fresh kunafa. It was dry and around the edges. We only had a few bites and left it. Overall, They have a large selection of drinks to choose from, and sandwiches. It appears to be incredibly busy during Ramadan but I will definitely come back to have the tea again.

I got takeout and got the Liver Platter $14.15, which was liver with onions, bell peppers and chili peppers. It came with Tanoor bread, which is a flat bread. The liver was piping hot and very flavourful, but some pieces were a bit tough with chewy pieces I couldn't eat. I was disappointed that the bread was not warm, just room temperature, but it was soft and chewy and still ok. The Liver Platter is their most popular dish. The inside of the cafe is nice. There are some regular tables, some high tables and some low tables where you sit on cushions. Those tables are pretty but they were occupied, so I couldn't take a picture for y'all. There's a live bird in a cage in the cafe, a musical instrument on the wall and other cool decorations. My visit was during the Covid-19 Pandemic and mask mandates were still in effect. However, I noticed that one of the people working there (I think he's the owner, bald guy) was interacting with customers at a distance of less than 6 feet (not behind plexiglass) while not wearing a mask. The young guy sweeping the floors was wearing a mask (and he wore it the entire time I was there), but the bald guy wasn't when I entered the cafe. As I was waiting for my food, more people came in and at that point he put on a mask, but it was so loose, I could see nose. This is what I observed. The cafe seems cozy and I like the decor. I may consider returning once the Pandemic is over. The cafe is in a little plaza (same plaza as Pizza Hut) and there's free parking in the shared parking lot.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Really friendly and engaging owner…read more However, I found the food just ok. The Long Version: I love checking out eateries located inside office or medical buildings. Many times they are just ok, but once in a while I'll find a hidden gem. I had a medical appointment across the street, so afterwards I popped into Coffee 'n Crust to grab a bite to eat. I got a steak and cheese sandwich $12.99 and a carrot muffin $2.49. I spoke to Pete, the owner, for a bit while his wife prepared my sandwich. Pete is very friendly and engaging and also has a great sense of humour. Their primary business is as a meat supplier. They moved into the space because of the large freezer. That was summer of 2024. Since they are on the ground floor of an office building, they had workers coming in and asking if they sold coffee, which they initially didn't since they only sold meat. So in October 2024 they decided to open up the restaurant to sell coffee and some food. I did like that Pete asked me if I wanted spicy mayo or regular mayo on my sandwich, so I had the opportunity to request no mayo. He also checked if I wanted the bread buttered, which I didn't. I don't like my sandwiches wet/saucy nor greasy, so I'm glad he asked. The steak and cheese sandwich had steak and cheese and onions. It was ok, but I think some mushrooms and green peppers would have livened it up. Although I eat meat, I don't like gamey or strong tasting or smelling meat. I found the meat too gamey for my liking. I did enjoy the generous amount of cheese in my sandwich though. The carrot muffin was a good size and adequately moist. I wasn't wowed by it, but it wasn't bad. There are some tables to eat in but it's mostly a takeout place. They are relatively new to the restaurant game, so I'm hoping their menu and food will evolve. I'd love to see more sandwich toppings offered. Maybe I just ordered the wrong sandwich, but I like more vegetables in my sandwich than just onions. The space used to be another restaurant called Toss 'n Grill before Pete and his wife took over the location. Parking in the building parking lot is paid parking but you can park for an hour for free with any purchase. Review #114 (2025)

Still on my search for the best matcha latte in Ottawa…read more.. Found this coffee shop when I googled best matcha in Ottawa. It's not too far from my children's school so I decided to give it a shot when I had about 90 minutes to fill after drop off. I am grateful I made the drive. This bustling cafe is super cozy and the staff were all extremely friendly. The cafe also sells beer and wine. Plus, they have kombucha on tap! I purchased a blueberry peach scone (will definitely be back to try the chocolate salted caramel) and a honey cinnamon matcha latte. The scone was not overly sweet, but still had a great flavour. The matcha was as good as the ones I've gotten downtown Ottawa. It was blended nicely and did not have any matcha chunks...love! Highly recommend if you are in the area and will definitely be back to try their food menu.

The interior is relaxing and charming with a mix of old and modern styles. The wall mural adds to the overall feel of the space. Staff are also charming. Very kind, welcoming, flexible and customer oriented. Menu is succinct but sufficient. Likely everyone can find something to eat. And, there's a large slection of scones and cookies to choose from, to go with coffee. My Date with Apple sandwich was delicious. Managed to get a bite of Hub'a Rueben, also excellent. All in all, a good stop.
