It's very nice that this restaurant is right across the street from the Fox. My Paloma cocktail was good, though not the best I've ever had. The service was OK. Maybe not as a tentative as it could've been. But the food was fantastic! I am not a fan of Mexican restaurants because, from restaurant to restaurant, the food all seems to be the same. But that's not true for this place. The tamale was wrapped in banana leaf instead of corn husk. The ratio of masa to meat was perfect. We walked in and got sat right away. However, the place was packed. Make sure to get here very early before a Fox show just to make sure. We were lucky enough to anticipate that exact situation. Not sure how that happened. But like I said, in spite of that staffing issue, service was quick. They definitely had some pep in their step and they were trying very hard to make things speedy. The chips and queso were pretty much the same chips and cheese you would get from any elementary to high school sporting event from the concession stand. Identical taste. I was disappointed. We had reservations for 6 PM on a Thursday night and arrived a little early. We were seated right away. They only had a few servers for the whole restaurant, and all of them were frantically running around the restaurant trying to care for everyone. While I appreciate their hard work and hustle, it didn't seem like a very efficient setup. I would consider coming back on a non-Fox Theatre performance night. I'm assuming this is what impacted our lack of attentive service. Our server, who also took on the role of manager and host, only came to our table two or three times to take our order and deliver our check. I understand that he was busy with all of the other tables, but we couldn't even flag him down for a water refill. We also ordered two piña coladas but never received them. When we were almost finished eating our food and realized the drinks probably weren't coming, we had to ask our server to take them off the bill. If the tacos hadn't been as yummy as they were, I don't think my overall experience here would have been worth it. I was very impressed by the flavor in each taco. I ordered the Mexico City Tacos Plate, which is your choice of three tacos and two sides for $20.50. It seemed a little pricey at first, but the meat seemed to be pretty high quality. I chose two ground beef tacos and one chicken tinga. I was blown away by the deliciousness both, especially the ground beef. They bring out three sauce options with your food, but the tacos were already so flavorful on their own that I didn't even need to use the sauce! Gave this place a second try before a Fox show, and I don't think we'll be returning. Our first experience was a disaster back in 2021: staffing was clearly an issue due to the pandemic and our wait was so long that we didn't get to eat. They were busy, but they continued to take more orders instead of knowing their limit. We waited over an hour for 6 tacos. I had to run our (at that point) to-go containers to the car 15 mins to showtime and almost missed the opening number. They did give us complimentary chips/salsa while we waited which you typically have to pay for which was appreciated. 3 years later, we decided to give them another shot. Now, it appears they're only open starting at 4pm on show days. For the quality and quantity of the menu items, the prices are outrageously expensive. $21 for a plate of average nachos (chips tasted stale), $7 for a side of guac which didn't include chips. The thing that stood out the most during my visits here were the Mexican city tacos. Do yourself a favor and at least try a taco or 3! During my last visit, I had the birria, chorizo, and carnitas and they were all excellent. For $20.50, you can choose 3 of these tacos and they come with your choice of 2 sides. I picked plantains and spinach and mushrooms to go with my tacos. I was not at all disappointed with any of the tacos nor my side choices. The place also has some cocktails, sangria, beer and wine available for those wanting some adult beverage with their meal. This place is a one-stop shop for your belly if you are in the area to see a show or just to hang out. Service is always friendly and quick here. The first time we came, it wasn't super busy so we were immediately tended to and the food came quickly. The second time was busier but the quality of service was still great. Ambiance is more on the casual end. There might be a few guests or so dressed up more than others because they're getting ready to attend a show or have just finished attending a show at the Fox but it's mostly casual. This is an okay option if you're looking for dining in the theater district. Be forewarned that they have a small staff and the service has been different both times I went. I've been waited on once and I've ordered/paid at the bar once. The last time I went, they got so busy that they locked the doors but didn't put up any signing outside which led to a comical/awkward meal of watching people walk up, try to open the door multiple times, and walking away confused. There was also a server that went outside to serve a drink on the patio and then got locked out..pretty chaotic! All that being said, the food is pretty solid with generous portions. Prices are a bit high but you could probably split an entree with someone based on your appetite. Absolutely delicious tacos and palomas. We went here before a show at the Fox theater. Much to my surprise it was not busy inside when we arrived. We sat down, ordered, and got our food very quickly! I ordered chips and cheese dip, a birria taco, a fish taco, and a shrimp taco, plus a Paloma. Our server was attentive. The salsas provided to us at the table were all absolutely delicious. The food was fresh and tasty. Generous portions of meats inside the tacos. I was delighted that they were able to accommodate my request for no onions. No long waits. The two servers handling the pre-show rush were doing their best, but they seemed to have about half the staff they should have for a Friday night pre-show rush. Chips and salsa are not complimentary. The queso dip was bland and tasted like just melted yellow velveeta. The food itself was average. I did like the spinach and mushrooms as a side dish and the quesabirria was decent. Margaritas were nothing special. One of our party did not receive her entree until nearly 30 minutes after the rest of us had been served. We asked for it taken off the check, which they did. I loved my food but the reason I am not giving them 5 stars is the prices are the side dishes were high. A little bowl of steamed veggies and 3 plaintains were $6 each- more than the tacos. They said they were sitting there for at least 15 min and still didn't get to order. They did have water on their tables. Needless to say, we left also. Poor staff management. was on our way to see tootsie at the fox theater and stopped in for some dinner before the show. the vibe was nice, loved the tablecloths. the flavors of the food were aight. nothing special. surprisingly low on the seasoning. did appreciate the salsas for the tacos, but their wasn't enough tbh. the plantains were fantastic. if I just got a huge bowl of those I'd be in heaven. plus side they made those margaritas strong as hell. A fine find in the "theatre district", this is a casual, but authentic, mexican food spot directly across the street from the "Fabulous" Fox Theatre. Surprisingly, it wasn't too crowded when we came in on Friday night, about ninety mintues before a Christmas show at the Fox, notwithstanding that there were also events scheduled up the street at Powell Hall and around the corner (symphony and jazz concerts, respectively). We had been worried when we couldn't use their website to make a reservation, but it turns out to be unnecessary. it appear that they were a bit understaffed; it took a few minutes to be greeted and seated; but when that was compltetd, our beverage orders were promptly solicited and provided, while we downloaded and scanned the menu for our food choices. We also ordered a bowl of chips and salsa - an enormous portion that we could not finish. It tasted fresh and a bit spicy, always a good sign. The menu was much more extensive that one might expect. My wife chose one shrimp and one lamb taco, and loved both. She added a side of Maduro plantains, equally delicious. I had Shrimps Diabla, which is offered at two different heat levels. I had the less spicy, which was still very very flavorful, and came with a small veggie/fruit salad and jasmine scented rice. Very filling! Our waitress was excellent abut checking back on us, until it came time to leave for the show, when everyone in the place needed their check at the same time to head out to their shows. Still, we were able to pay and leave in ample time to walk across the very cold street and into the nice, warm theatre ... We see a lot of shows in the area ... and will be back here. read more

It was my 1st time at Lucha and I can't give it negative stars so I will go with 1 star. We went there as we typically always do Mexican food on the week and we had a show at the Fox we were seeing so we thought it would be great to do on our date night with another couple before the show. 1st - It was about 90 degrees outside and probably 79 in the restaurant. It was flat out ridiculous. 2nd - It took over 10 minutes for someone to come take our order and they were NOT very busy. I'm sorry to ask us for our drinks, not take our order. It took another 15 minutes for us to get our actual meal order in and they don't provide menus, you have to look up their menu on your phone. Because of the ridiculousness of the service, we actually ordered an entire round of margarites again hoping they would come out with our food and not knowing it was going to take the bartender 30 minutes to make our drinks. 3rd - Our food actually came before our drinks did even though they were ordered about 15 minutes before the food. 4th - The food has absolutely no flavor at all. I couldn't detect a hint of any seasoning in anything, be it the rice, vegetables, steak or what have you. It as all very bland. 5th - The chips were OK, but the salsa and cheese were again bland and not worth ordering. 6th - Margaritas can only be ordered per glass, no pitchers like most places. But tasted more like orange juice than a margarita. We actually had to order a shot of white tequila to add to it to give it a hint of margarita flavor. The Cadillac margaritas were just as bad, but only came in 16oz, where as the regular one you can get 24oz. 7th - Prices are ridiculously high for what you get. In closing, I will NEVER go to this place again. Way over priced, horrible food and the service was probably the worse service I have ever had in a sit down restaurant in my 50+ years. read more

He eventually got around to us- only to learn that the drink I really wanted, they didn't have ingredients for. The guac was good, the chips were a bit stale and greasy. Waited 35 minutes, only for someone to come out to let us know that they'd run out of ingredients from the kitchen and had to order something else. Tacos were meh. Greasy. Sloppily put together. Server basically just threw my food at me and never explained what sauces were which. Overall, it seems this place is only surviving because of the Fox, but isn't set up to handle a packed house on show nights. There are far better places to go in the area. Wont be back. read more

Upscale & nice quality for the price $1 street style tacos are great 4 inch individual experiences with 10 different main item plus fresh herbs added & 3 sauces to add yourself. I say "street tacos" because that is what others called them. Corn based soft shell filled with previously marinated & cooked items then kept warm (pork, pork belly, chicken, lamb, fried fish or poblano peppers) then fresh herbs added. The tacos come out freshly made very quickly on simple paper, styrofoam or plastic tray depending on how many you order. I was a loner both times for this more group event. Warning age mind field... Realize that many young college students go for $1 taco Tuesday. Be careful because I found myself pulled into who is Jimi Hendrix discussion and had to remind myself I was a baby when he died & these girls are under 1/2 my age... the snap back was "do you know Elon Musk"... SpaceX had just launched & I realized I missed the beginning of conversation. We started with a round of margaritas and chips with salsa and guacamole. The chips aren't complementary here. I don't mind paying for chips and salsa, but I expect it to be good when I do. The tray of ordinary chips came with a bowl of red salsa and four little side cups, each one filled with something different. One had pickled veggies, one with pico de gallo and the other two had additional types of salsas. We found all of the salsas to be bland. We asked our server if there were any other salsas with a little more kick, and she delightfully brought us a better one that normally isn't served. She explained that most of their customers don't like spice. Honestly, I don't mind a mild salsa, but it should at least have some good flavor. For my main course, I was immediately drawn to the "Mexico City Tacos". I've explored the markets and streets of Mexico City eating taco after taco, so I was hoping to get something similar. Most of the tacos were decent, but not quite D.F. standard. All were made traditional Mexican style with small corn tortillas and topped with onions and cilantro. Unfortunately, my poblano tacos with onions and mushrooms were undercooked. The poblanos should be tender, not crunchy. I had the option of two sides, so I went with black beans and spinach & mushrooms. Neither was noteworthy. When we were brought the bill, I was a little surprised at the total. Let me first say that the lamb birria tacos I had were one of the best Mexican entrees I've ever tasted. I also can't commend them enough for having steamed mixed vegetables (that are not over cooked) as a side over rice is awesome! Nothing else about this place was appreciated. The location makes it convenient for dinner before a Fox show. Hours are confusing. We went on a Sunday, expecting it to be closed when we walked by, because Google as well as their door sign both indicated they were closed Sundays. The front house was being run by 3 young people, 2 of whom seemed to be in training and were not seasoned servers yet. Drinks took a long time and were boring. Glasses lay empty for a long time before refills were offered. We had to ask for silverware and napkins. They were closing just as we left (about 6pm).
