I found LSAT Sensei on Yelp and took the April-May full-length course before the June 2010 LSAT. This class helped me increase my score by 14 points and score in the upper 99th percentile. I would highly recommend it to anyone studying for the LSAT. I called David before signing up and he took time to talk with me about what I was hoping to get out of a course, how his is structured and generally what to expect, so I had a sense that it matched what I was looking for. Logic games was the section I was struggling with, and this class spends a lot of time on techniques to make useful setups for the questions. I especially liked that David's diagramming style is simple, efficient, and intuitive. I had been using some techniques that were taking too much time and preventing me from finishing all the questions, and David helped me figure out ways to save time by choosing the simplest representations. The course is not about memorizing specific rules or setups. Instead, you learn how to approach different types of problems by working through a large number of games and logical reasoning problems in class. I also appreciated that all of the homework and in-class problems are from actual, recent tests. David has a way of making the test look easy, but an understanding that it is not so simple for the rest of us. The class starts out with basics but he adjusts the pace to go as fast as the class wants. David encourages participation and does not just feed you the right answer, which I think is very helpful for understanding why the credited answer is the right one. I met David Yi a couple of years back when I was writing my dissertation and studying for the LSAT. I had taken a Kaplan course and barely improved my base score after three months of studying with them. David offered me a free test session and in under half an hour completely clarified a logic game that I'd never been able to master. I decided that before retaking the LSAT, I would complete the dissertation and come back to the LSAT at a later date. This Fall, I contacted David again, and instead of private tutoring, he suggested that I might benefit from his group sessions. I was skeptical. Group tutoring hadn't worked when I'd tried at Kaplan, but I finally gave him the benefit of the doubt. More than anything, David is a pragmatist. David is Great! he has good intentions and is supportive, however during my online course he canceled and moved class too frequently. I understand that need to be flexible but not when it happens almost every week, at first I thought hey life happens, but week after week class was postponed to many different times and dates for many different reasons, good reasons I am sure, but still unprofessional..I also struggled to grasp the material he seemed to move fast and hyper energetic which just may be a style issue, but that along with the constant changes threw me off. He seems too much of a 'go with the flow' again that can be good but i didn't know what time class was over from one day to another and we never kept to schedule as far as topics to cover either, this can be difficult if you are on a work and/or class schedule as... I can't really talk about how effective he is in helping improve scores as my work schedule did not allow me to keep up with all the class changes. I rarely write online reviews, but felt it was important to share my experience with those of you considering hiring David for LSAT prep. I contacted David and at first he was very charming and helpful and helped me get set up with the initial "pulse" sessions. The idea behind these sessions is to get a sense of your baseline. This phase involves taking two practice tests (one timed and one untimed), going through a mock tutoring session via Skype, completing homework following this tutoring session and then having an additional call to assess performance and possible routes for tutoring moving forward. I completed the practice tests he sent me and, after completing them, sent him my answer sheets and set up a time to talk. The tutoring session went well and I promptly completed my homework, sent it back to him, and set up the time for our debrief call. During this call, David seemed a bit unprepared. He said he didn't have my test scores in front of him (and thus could not talk specifics) because he was traveling (fine) but did not provide any follow up. He seemed a bit distracted during the call and couldn't give me the tailored advice I was hoping for so that I could tell if I should move forward with tutoring sessions or not. Moreover, after sending countless e-mails and placing multiple phone calls, I have never to this day gotten my scores on the initial tests that I completed, nor have I received any response at all acknowledging my attempts at communication. This took hours of my time. At first I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt--I knew he was traveling and had a busy schedule. But after each unreturned call or e-mail, I wondered if I should be genuinely concerned--if there was a serious reason why he was unresponsive. Alas, I can't confirm this either way, but can only speak to my experience. After Googling him, the forums I found had some unfavorable things to say about him as well, to say the least. It seems strange that while this is the case, all of the Yelp reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Fishy? This is all in very stark contrast to the image that David presented of himself throughout the initial process. He tried to be very charming and repeatedly talked about how he could be like a brother to me throughout the process and how I should e-mail him no matter the hour with any concerns I had. I sat in on one of Dave's (aka LSAT Sensei) LSAT test prep and law school admissions seminars in Washington DC back in September 2011 and it was definitely worth the time. It's been almost five years since I've been out of college and now thinking about applying to law school, and the dreaded LSAT has been driving me crazy. I spent a few hours going over some games (my worst section) with Dave and he taught me some fantastic tricks and shortcuts. I'm pretty slow when it comes to these games, so I especially appreciated how patient he was with me. And he took as much time as I needed to clearly explain each step to me. Wow. Where to start. Well, I suppose the first thing to say is that you won't do well on the LSAT unless YOU put the time and effort into it. There is no magic bullet. But if you are willing to take on the challenge, David Yi is your man. He just gets it. When you work with him, you'll see what I mean, but for now let me explain my personal experience with LSAT Sensei (David's company), and how I found working with David to be helpful on each section of the test. So, here's my story: I took first the LSAT in October and December of 2011. I've never been one to seek out help, so I studied on my own. I cancelled the first test and got a 165 on the second. Total disaster in light of my own personal goal to break into the T14. I wasn't surprised, because during practice tests I rarely finished sections on time, and struggled mightily with those infamous logic games. Disappointed with my score (and with the schools I got into), I decided not to go to law school. When I decided to re-apply two years later, I knew that studying on my own wouldn't work. After working with David (both one on one and in class), I was scoring regularly between 172 and 174 on practice tests. In teaching me how to beat the test, David took the fear away, and turned it into something I actually found fun and looked forward to. So, what's the secret? How did David help me master the LSAT? Games: This is where you'll find the most help from David. Not only can he do a logic game in under four minutes (the test allows about 9 minutes per game), he can "reverse engineer" them. That is, he can help you get inside the head of the person who wrote the game, to figure out what the test is likely to ask before you even get to the questions. This is the difference between your average "Guy who aced the LSAT and is making money as a part-time LSAT tutor while in law school," and a professional LSAT instructor with 10+ years of experience like David. He'll help you separate "what you know" from "what you don't know," which is the key to setting up the games without wasting time. David also has his own unique method for certain types of grouping games that proves to be an immensely helpful shortcut. He can even write his own logic games, and in fact one of his submissions was used on an actual LSAT. In other words, and let me put this is capital letters to be absolutely clear, YOU WILL BE WORKING WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS WRITTEN REAL LSAT QUESTIONS. He will teach you how to grab the low-hanging fruit (the easiest questions) in less than 10 seconds, and how to get the harder questions as efficiently as possible. He'll also tell you how to know when its "time to give up" and move on to the next question. All this saves time, and time saved on one question means more time on another, which means more points on your test. Logical reasoning: With unlimited time, anyone can answer most logical reasoning questions. Getting 25 of these in 35 minutes is a different story. David will help you break down questions by category, which is somewhat helpful. But more importantly, he will help you "feel the flow" of the prompts, so that many times you will know the answer before you read through the answer choices. This seems very vague and general, but I cannot stress how helpful this was. Simply put, he's seen every question, and knows every potential pitfall. He'll also help you with strategy: teach you how to kill the first 10 (easiest) questions in a section in less than 10 minutes, or how to get the last 5 questions, which are often the hardest. After you start to take real practice tests, David will help you go over all your wrong answers in logical reasoning, which is immensely helpful. (This is true whether you have him in class or private tutoring--I did both). This helps him pinpoint your weaknesses and then target them for strengthening. This can range from struggling with a particular type of question, or using a bad overall strategy. Reading comp: Here David was least helpful, but still immensely so. There is only so much you can learn from an instructor here: he won't turn you into a speed reader. But David will teach you how to tackle this section, which is not as intuitive as it seems. For instance, the main key is to spend plenty of time on the passage, fully absorb it, and then blast through the questions. (The alternative is to skim the passage and spend more time on the questions, which is a common mistake!) More importantly, David will drill you: make you do reading comp sections again and again and again until you become comfortable and consistent. Generally speaking, David will help you become "interested" in the test. That is, he'll get really nerdy about certain questions, and about the LSAT itself. This is an incredibly infectious quality. The LSAT, as it turns out, is VERY beatable. You have to be willing to put in the work, but seeking out a professional like David is so ridiculously helpful it almost feels too good to be true. read more

I decided to go to apply to law school in May 2015. I was studying at least three hours a day, every day, listening to LSAT prep podcasts, and obsessing over strategies through the online forums. Despite all the effort, I wasn't able to break 159. I knew I needed a better way to study, but none of the classes fit my schedule (I'm self-employed and have a pretty hectic work schedule). After being privately tutored by David Yi, one thing became immediately clear - he knows the LSAT forwards and backwards AND he knew how to get me at that level. At the beginning of May, I was freaking out because I only had one month to study for the June exam. I took a diagnostic and I only scored a 149. Later that week during our first meeting, he analyzed me and knew my flaws well. David gave me only TWO pieces of advice for me to work on. David is a phenomenal LSAT teacher and mentor for two main reasons: (1) He shows you how to think like the people who write the test. It's one thing to recognize the tests' components - grouping games, linear games, parallel reasoning questions, reading comprehension themes - but that will only get you so far. On test day, you'll inevitably be thrown a curve ball: something that doesn't fit neatly into the categories that have become synonymous with LSAT prep. That's where David's instruction becomes crucial. To improve my logical reasoning skills, David and I went over a group of questions I got wrong. I listened to him think through questions out loud, and he listened to me think through questions. Then, we found areas where I could hone in on portions of the question I had previously overlooked. Over time, I could feel my thinking patterns become more efficient. This efficiency of thought, rather than simple pattern recognition, is what pays big dividends on the LSAT. (2) He genuinely cares about his students' progress. After I took the test, he helped me craft an application I can be proud of. I sent him a draft of a personal statement that I thought was pretty good, and his critiques made it so much better. He showed me where I had overlooked opportunities to market myself, and he helped me develop a theme in my statement that tied my entire application together. He also showed me how to approach optional essays that I didn't initially think applied to me. Without David's help, I don't think my application would have had the connecting thread that makes it stand out. This isn't something he had to do - he did it because he genuinely wanted me to succeed. Big prep companies often advertise by disclosing the scores of their teachers. When it comes to LSAT prep, it does not get any better than David. I originally took an onsite course with Kaplan and was sadly disappointed with the Kaplan method and the instructor. Rather you take LSAT SENSI online or in person it doesn't matter, the quality is great. David truly breaks down the LSAT in a way that is clear and easy for ALL to master. I've had my experiences in many different courses from sitting in on a Blueprint course, manhattan lsat, test masters, and a full length Kaplan and NONE of them compare to the instruction that David delivers. The homework is very helpful and he takes the time to answer all of your questions even after class and via phone/email. Though the class I took is online, David was 100% accessible and continues to be months after my course. You want to master Logic Games then David is your guy! I've never seen his strategy duplicated and broken down in such a way that makes perfect sense. Additionally class was NOT dull but fun to learn and interactive. When I first met David at a conference for 0Ls in San Francisco, I was really impressed. Right out of the box, he administered a practice LSAT to us. He went on to explain his history with the test, rocking it with a high score and his graduation from law school in Chicago. Said that he even went to school and knew the founders of Blueprint LSAT. Very impressive. However, once I signed up with LSAT Sensei, all of that went away. Not professional in informing clients of dates and times or providing course materials or guidelines and when asked he seemed more annoyed than anything, which was less than helpful. Online courses times were canceled frequently and the Skype connection was often lost or not audible. Once, he was in a Panera Bread starting the class more than 30 minutes late, I couldn't hear him, connection dropped several times and then the connection eventually just dropped altogether. There were 4 people in the online class and he would commend that one person who understood the concept, this person was sure that they would be attending Yale law school. The rest of us thought he, David, was moving too fast, the concepts weren't making sense and he did not take the time or make the effort to explain things. He would say refer to the materials that I'll email to you after the session. But these materials, a week later, would not arrive in the inbox After trying to contact him by email or telephone regarding the materials, again he just seemed annoyed. I got a discounted price of $250 for a 2-6 month course but I just cut my losses at that point. I am now very happy with my online Blueprint LSAT prep course. read more
