Chicago Home Tutor responded to my initial inquiry super fast, we had a great discussion as to her needs and her personality, and the fact that I believe she may also have some form of learning disability or adhd (undiagnosed but showed same symptoms her her diagnosed brother). Then they quickly identified a couple matches and one recommendation for a tutor and within a matter of days we had our first in-home appointment set up. The match was made so perfectly that my daughter has had great success in strengthening her math skills with her tutor. We will continue through this next school term because Chicago Home Tutor has been of such great benefit I am confident my daughter will not just be fully on top of her grade level math skills but will also be ahead of the game. The pride my daughter expresses in her abilities now makes my heart smile!

After 10Hours, all of a sudden, we received notice our tutor was no longer working with Varsity. Things went downhill from then on. I sent several emails and it took 5 days for Chris, the account manager to reply as he was sick.We were stressed not having any tutor as the date for the SAT was quickly approaching. Chris at Varsity declined to provide a contact for the days he wasn't working because he said he is a sales guy and what sales guy would transition his accounts while away!!!! So it took another couple of days to be offered an alternative (1 week after the first one vanished). James, the new tutor wasn't as good, and didn't prepare for the class at all. Instead of looking up what had been done before, he spent a good portion of the time of the class to assess the work that had been done so far. (when he had access to all the notes and sessions but didn't bother to look). We decided not to proceed with James and to put the account in pause. We weren't told that the pause could only be made once and for 30 days max. We were notified hours before the deadline for an auto renewal and had to scramble to get a hold of someone to stop it and delete our account. We requested an exception to extend the pause the time for us to figure out what we wanted to do, to no avail, although all this situation was of their making. It could have been great but their poor communication and lack of customer attention undermined all the good impression we had at the start. It is a unfortunate. After posting my review here, Varsity Tutors to their credit refunded the last month (for which we really only had 2 sessions). It gives me hope that they do care and they are willing to correct their mistakes.. I am therefore updating my score accordingly.

However, over multiple months, I was charged inconsistently significantly higher amounts above my plan monthly, resulting in $193.90 in additional, unexplained fees (Jan-Mar), plus an extra charge after cancellation in April. They never agreed to refund the extra charge and only gave me extra credit hours. The company claims these are "supplemental tutoring fees" for extra time, but I never requested or approved any additional hours. My child only attended scheduled sessions within the agreed timeframe. What's most concerning: There is no clear approval or control mechanism for "extra" time Tutors can apparently bill beyond scheduled sessions without client consent Charges are not transparently tracked in the user dashboard Customer support repeatedly gives scripted responses without resolving the issue I ended up canceling my subscription because of these unexplained charges, yet I was still billed again afterward. This billing model feels opaque and, frankly, misleading. At minimum, there should be explicit approval required before any additional billable time is added.

We were baffled by her inconsistent performance and frustrated by her really extreme resistance to even attempting math. Henry's belief that learning can and should be fun has been exactly what she needed. Henry Davis is far more than a tutor. In addition to working on foundational skills and number sense, Henry has helped our daughter enjoy doing math. When she struggles at school and cries "I hate math!" we can remind her that she loves math when doing it with Henry. His use of games paired with an understanding of how math anxiety affects kids has been invaluable in her learning. We have continued seeing him through the years and plan to continue indefinitely. In addition to tutoring for our daughter, we have done math assessment/testing and plan to continue doing so to monitor progress in flagged areas. Henry works well with my daughter's school, writing reports and/or connecting directly as needs. My son also sees Henry on a less frequent basis. While math is not a problem for him, he does work with Henry on the areas of weakness that sometimes prevent him from progressing. My son loves math and excels at it and seeing Henry gives him the opportunity to explore it in ways he doesn't get to in school. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. We are very thankful to have found Henry Davis.

One thing I struggled with prior to working with Tara was identifying what is actually being tested. I would just do the problems, get some wrong, get some correct, and then move on. Tara emphasized an error log and thinking about why I got something wrong, which really helped me. Tara helped me move my score from 42 to a 47 on the Quant section. His insights to Data Sufficiency questions were worth at least 2 of the 5 points that I added, bringing my combined score to a 710.

The EA is an alternative that many schools are using, but there isn't as much info and test techniques as there is for the GMAT. I purchased the official study material provided by GMAC. Still, after taking the EA, I found that the material and practice tests weren't as accurate a portrayal of a real exam as I had hoped, especially for the Quant section. After receiving my scores from the first exam, it was clear I'd need to retake the test and needed some help brushing up on my quant skills. I interviewed several companies that promised an increase in my score, but none took a personable approach until I found Tara. Tara took the time to understand what I needed, my history, and where I wanted my score to end up to get into one of my top choice schools. I didn't have a lot of time before my next exam, so Tara focused on my weaknesses, and we worked almost daily up until exam day. He shared many short-cuts and tricks to help get to the root of the question and eliminate the "noise." He provided many reference notes and made sure that I genuinely understood before moving to the next topic, always encouraging along the way. He is amazingly flexible as he was able to work about my schedule and meet early in the mornings. With Tara's help, I was able to increase my quant score high enough to get into one of my top choice business schools, and I would recommend Tara to anyone!

Each has his own strengths and weaknesses, and their study and learning habits differ vastly. Once Steve met with us and reviewed their baseline untimed scores, he easily guided each of my sons to the test that would elicit the best results, and he confidently assured that tutoring them together would not only meet each boy's individual needs but would enhance each other's learning, by virtue of the group process. Indeed, Steve was exactly right. He helped my kids to put in perspective the importance of these tests and to set goals commensurate with their college choice aspirations. His teaching style elicits discipline and engagement, without instilling undue stress and worry. He's calm and steadfast in his claim that if a person is willing to put in the practice and study time and comes prepared to tutoring sessions, he or she can incrementally improve. He makes the goal score feel accessible, and this helped to keep both of my kids motivated, hard-working and hopeful. The three of them worked together for 24 hours, over 12 sessions, and utilized a variety of materials, including prep books, websites, and group meetings to get them ready for the test. He tracked their progress, keeping me updated throughout, and though he worked with them together, he tailored the lessons to each of my kids. Now that both boys have sat for their chosen test, it's abundantly clear that Steve assessed them accurately, and guided and taught them well. My sons each reached their goal scores, one improving 3 composite points (4 with super score), and the other improving 6 composite points, to do so. Needless to say, both of my kids are pleased with the outcome, as am I, and I suspect this will open doors at schools they might not have considered. From beginning to end, and especially as measured by the results, Steve successfully ushered my kids through what could easily have been a stressful and demoralizing process. He simply understands these tests and how to master them, and we couldn't be happier to have benefitted from his expertise.

My student was already doing well in Math and Reading, but yearned to improve in Science and English. Most other courses or tutors offered full on prep -- very costly and time-consuming. Steve assessed my student's specific needs and provided individualized coaching and resources to help her use her limited time wisely. After only two sessions (about 4 hours total) and some homework, my student's confidence was boosted. Beyond improving an already great composite score by 2 to 3 points overall, specific increases included 4 points improvement in English (from 32 to 36), and a whopping 5-point improvement in Science (31 to 36). Steve was meticulous, positive, and patient. He used a variety of materials, including websites, prep books, and lessons at my home. The resources he has to offer are up-to-date and not stale, which is important since the tests have changed over time. He kept detailed notes on my student's performance to help track improvement and keep me updated. Would definitely recommend.
