They were one of the most expensive quotes I received, but being an established company, I went with them to do the work. Based on the owner Mike Minnick's recommendation, I got the deck painted instead of stained (which is what it originally was). Shortly after that it I noticed the paint was starting to peel off. I immediately called the company and had one of there personnel - Herb - come and take a look at my deck and he told me that it should not have happened and that someone would be out to fix it soon. After that whenever I spoke to Herb or anyone else from the company, there was always an excuse including how busy they were with other jobs during the summer, rain, etc. I also spoke to someone in the office a few times and they said they would let Herb or Mike know, but I never heard back from anyone. 6 months later I have still not gotten any response from anybody in the company. I am very very disappointed. I had trusted my deck to A1 Construction and there has been a complete lack service and any sort of communication. Unlike the service and communication I received when they were trying to get the contract - Mike came out himself to review the work I wanted to get done. He also spoke to me about pressure washing the exterior of my house which I was interested in doing. Not any more with A1. Please don't use this company for any construction work. There are other better and more competent contractors available with much better rates. A very disappointed customer/client.

Extremely professional, organized and more than competent. A job very well done. And I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again.

When water was pouring into the basement and crawl space he told workers " don't tell the homeowner." Jim has very few sub-contractors in his stable so he does not QC any work. It's not because they are so good - my feeling is that he has very few options and can't get himself to confront anyone who does poor work. Which is just about all his sub-contractors. His relations with his painter of close to 15 years became so bad - they never returned. Along one wall - light switches and outlets in the kitchen area were 4 different heights. He said nothing. The list goes on and on - and on. Zero QC! The project began because my (then) 82 year old mother had just lost her husband (my father) and she couldn't even think of living in their house alone. Jim had done some small jobs for both them and for me over the years. Not recently - but a little while back. I thought that I could trust him for this addition to my house for my mother to move into. A 45 day job has lasted over 9 months. The project start was delayed since he was having mental difficulties due to family stress - and, he let his license lapse. In good faith - we waited. (I should not have done this). Jim couldn't seem to remember from one minute to the next what was going on with the project. He would not write things down and wouldn't read. Jim himself actually never finished our job. He just stopped - didn't call or write a note. Just stopped without getting through to an occupancy certificate. Jim took money from me for work and materials that were either not accomplished or returned. For a very small - easy to understand job of less than a day to accomplish - he might be the right choice. More than that - I would not recommend.
