Yet, I told him I chose it from the "shower light" section of choices online at Home Depot. But Eric wanted to be sure, for safety purposes, that the light could tolerate a water setting. It had a symbol on the box which we both believed to indicate that, but he checked with Chris, his boss, to be sure that's what it meant. Chris approved it for installation. I appreciated his focus on safety and the installation did not take very long. I also appreciated that Eric was very personable and explained very clearly how this was a good choice for a shower light because it could be popped down a bit if there was a need to see above the light again, such as for another drain leak from above, as this situation had been. The cost may have been a bit more than if I paid someone else by the hour, but at least this cost by job included a trip fee and if it needed to take longer would not have cost extra. There was no up front quote prior to the service fee being charged, and while I expected I might pay a premium, it would up being over 50% more than another quote I got. I would consider the company itself to be opportunistic and somewhat manipulative. The service fee does not roll into the project itself as it would at a mechanic, but does make you feel committed to them. That fee includes a whole house eval, which was then used to try to sell me every kind of upgrade possible. Since I paid the fee, I used the opportunity to ask about some electrical codes for things I'm considering doing myself, and there was no hesitation to price it out for me in case I wanted the work done. When it came time to present the potential options, they were presented as financing options--definitely a sales tactic to get me to commit to spending on these extras projects, which would have been triple the cost of the one thing I called them for. My idea of a good contractor is one that presents options with honesty and warns me when something is a problem, and this was opportunistic. I'd look elsewhere.

The bid process took less than 20 minutes and the quote we were given was well within our budget. We anticipated the job would cost around $1500 to complete but we were given an estimate for $880. The following Monday work began at 7am and was complete by 10am. The lights looked exceptional and they were extremely thorough in their cleanup. They even went the extra mile to clean our ceiling fan and verify that our breakers were up to code. I would highly recommend Little Dave's based on their quality of work but the story gets better. Upon receiving our invoice, we were billed $450 rather than the $880 because the job took less time than anticipated. This was completely unexpected but very much appreciated.
