And finally, when you get up to the desk inside the door be the first person to say good morning or good afternoon or anything pleasant to the person behind the desk. It's magical you will see and continue doing that with each and every person you have to encounter. Overall, my visit was about one hour and 45 minutes. After the initial check-in after I received my number, I had to see an agent to review my application that I filled out after checking in at the front. Upon Kia's review and payment, I was then sent back out to the waiting room to wait for my turn for photo and photo drivers license. I did not need the real ID. I will say when I got to the photo desk, I was not acknowledged by the agent, but as soon as I said hello, my name is Sue what is yours , again It was magical! TL;DR: Call 1-866-964-6305 and SET AN APPOINTMENT via phone. The office DOES NOT TAKE WALK-INS. First of all, the phone number listed on Yelp and Google is dead wrong. IF you call 1-800-772-1213 (the listed phone number on all the online websites, including the SSA.GOV Norristown office webpage), you will wait on hold for a LONG ass time. When someone finally picks up, they will tell you that there are no appointments necessary, and you should show up in person. DO NOT DO THIS. THE NORRISTOWN SITE DOES NOT TAKE WALK-INS. DO NOT CALL THIS PHONE NUMBER. THEY HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT. Instead - skip the 1-800 number entirely, and call 1-866-964-6305 during business hours. This will connect you directly to the Norristown PA office, and they will set up an appointment for you with a specific time and date. Before you go - go to the SSA.GOV website and follow their instructions on what documentation you will need. This facility is very poorly administrated. It provides NO rehabilitative counseling or help to…read moreinmates. The system is a private company and any communication with an inmate has a fee. A friend or family member must register for phone or messages so the inmate can message or call and they can only message or phone at a phone call or message cost that the friend or family member must have an account they pay for. To put any funds in the inmates account there is a costly fee. Put $15 into the inmates account "trust fund" and you pay a $5 fee just to put in funds. The social services are a joke. If an inmate requires placement in a recovery or halfway house the inmate must contact and find a placement and they cannot make any phone calls or email or even search. The social worker does not advocate or do the searching- if an inmate can get a s w appointment the s w will place a call on their phone but the inmate has to do the search and connecting. Medical or dental help is limited and sporadic. If an inmate has any funds in their trust fund the medical unit charges $5 for aspirin and $5 to see the prison Doctor or dentist, This is a money making business. It is NOT there to help any inmate recover from anything. Investigations should be conducted. No wonder inmates return, they get released with no help or rehabilitative assistance. This system is a blight on our prison system and has no compassion.
