I was on a search for the finest port for someone who loves the national alcoholic drink of Portugal. A quick google brought this place to my attention. As I knew Leeds quite well, but haven't been down the Calks area since I was young, stupid and wanting to dance to crappy music all night. I didn't know about this place. But I'm glad I discovered it. Very unassuming on the outside, I thought no they would have what I needed. Negative Norris that I am. But heck I was here so I went in... Wow! Every square inch of the place was the home to some wine or whisky. Usually a place like here would be covered in cheap beer as that's their bread and butter. Not here. It's wine from every country you could name. An assistant must have noticed me standing there with my jaw agape as he politely greeted me and asked if he could help. Port? I asked. He led me to the selection. Now when you discover Port if a vintage that's nearly as old as you. You; A worry about the price & B know you're in the right place. A 1985 port was selected, because I like to spoil people. And I was surprised that it wasn't really that expensive. I need to go back here to extra this Alladins cave.

This is the biggest shop in the Oddbins chain. It has a large warehouse at the back but a really…read moremassive floor space at the front. The selection of wine is massive with cheap bottles mingling happily with a fine section as well as some beer and cider. The staff here are very attentive and hark back to the Oddbins I used to shop at in the early 90's. These guys are seriously into their wine and love to talk about it. There is always a bustle about the place as they run a large wholesale operation so people whizz about with trolleys loaded with boxes, but will always find time to help you with your wine buys if they can. If you want good wine and decent advice this is the plce to go in leeds. The selection is really excellent and the advice to go with it is always available with special offers always on.

Or if you are travelling from Manchester City Centre you can catch the X57 bus that will stop directly outside or get the train to Bramhall station which is a 10-15 min walk away. They have a very good selection of beers mainly from the UK, Belgium and German with a small selection of USA craft beer. Which is all priced very well. You will struggle to find a better price elsewhere on the beers they have for sale here. One of my favourite beer styles is Saison and they have an excellent range of them here. They also have a couple of beer lines. So you can purchase a pint to sip while you shop or sit on the beer tables outside. It's great on a hot summers day! The selection they have for sale on draft changes quite regular too. They also have a large selection of wines and spirits available. If you a throwing a party and need a great range of beers, wines and spirits then this is the one stop shop you will need. I really like this place, the selection is varied and the price is great. If you love a good beer this place is definitely worth the short trip.

Wonderful selection of beers and ciders from small breweries around Yorkshire and the isle, and good selection of wines from around the world. Owner was welcoming and knowledgable. The concept of Demijohn is that of a liquid deli, selling both vinegars and oils for your cooking, as well as wines and spirits for afterwards. You buy your bottle from them, due to EU regulations, but you can then fill it with anything you like, and take it back for refills. The staff were incredible friendly and welcoming, allowing us to try many different products, even after we'd chosen what we were having, as well as advising us on various combinations we could try. If you're ever in York you simply have to try this place!

The interior is dark and welcoming with real wood floors and shelving. The shop is rammed to the gills with quality wines and beers. There's a good selection of wines and spirits and a fantastic range of beers local, national and Continental. The wide selection of lagers and Belgian beers make it worth the trip to Commonside alone. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and make for a good shopping experience. Its location on a busy road in the suburbs does mean that parking can be a problem.

Ilkley is awash with great shops and I must admit Martinez Wines is definitely up there with the best of them. It's a great shop, packed obviously with wines and all sorts of treats. To my delight I also found a cheeky bottle of Frangelico liqueur. To those not aware of the joys of this beverage, it's a quite stunning hazelnut number that is pretty hard to track down. Trust me to like expensive and hard to find Italian drinks. It's a bit like the men I look for as well. Armed with so much choice, I asked for some advice on top tipples and got a very knowledgeable and friendly man to help me find a cracking bottle of red for my dad. Everything they stock goes through a rigorous tasting process and they were happy to tell me that all the staff are involved in the tastings. They even have wines from Lebanon and more spirits than you can shake a stick at. If you're looking for that special drink or to indulge yourself on a Saturday night then they have the stock and staff to help find a delightful drink. Excellent.

Martinez is just the sort of wine store you'd expect to find in a posh little place likely Ilkley…read more Near the world famous Betty's, it has a similar reputation of class and expense, and the owners and staff of this independent place really know their stuff about wine. I actually went in here with my wine-obsessed parents, and even they were struck by the range (and price) of some of the stuff on offer. With wine from every region of every country you'd expect (France, Australia, Argentina) and some you wouldn't expect (Lebanon) they offer any true wine lovers and absolute haven and are only too keen to recommend the wine that fits your bill. The rather exotic name doesn't do this image any harm either.
