A lot of the men I buy for are the type of people who have what they need, so gifts need to be thought out well - and what better than beer? but I want it to be something a bit special and that's where the bottle came in handy.. My other half has spent I a long time working in Europe, and has tried lots of beers that just aren't widely available here. I managed to find a lot of his favourites, such as leffe, (all the different strengths and colours), Orval and duvel. Not only do they supply the beers they also sell the correct glasses to drink it out of. (apparently, you need a different shaped glass for different types of beer to appreciate the full flavor). ((think I'll stick to chocolate))

Even though it is a chain it has deals for Chapel Allerton specifically and seems to really know its local market. Last time I passed there were signs outside proclaiming that members of the Chapel Allerton tennis club get a 25% discount and that they had the best range of champagne available in 'Chapel A'. I have never bought champagne but I have picked up some good deals here on fancier wines than the supermarket range and ales.

ChezVin undoubtedly fits in to that category of specialist and interesting. They stock a range of hundreds of wines from over ten different countries, ensuring that they have enough to suit any taste and any budget. The owner of the store has a wealth of knowledge on the subject of wine, and so will almost certainly send you away with something that you'll be delighted with, and can find you the perfect wine for any occasion. Not content with providing the people of Otley and Leeds the perfect bottle of vino, ChezVin also stocks a myriad of different whiskies (to suit even the more discerning whisky fanatic) and a range of liqueurs and spirits that you might have trouble finding in your standard Bargain Booze. If there were only more ChezVins in the country than Bargain Boozes I imagine that our binge drinking culture might cease and people's attitude towards alcohol might become more refined. This is not an average 2-4-1 boozy newsagents selling cheapo nasty lagers, this is the delicatessen of the alcohol world. Worth making the trip!

But on this Christmas visit back to my in-laws it looks like they may finally be turning it around with a great selection of local beers from the fantastic Ilkley brewery, super local Roosters and a fairly robust selection of core range beers from American crafts such as Sierra Nevada and Brooklyn (pretty expensive at £2.30 a 330ml bottle so going local is definitely the best option here) My wife the wine queen says they have a fairly competitively priced range of wines and a fairly good selection so if you're after alcohol in Knaresborough centre then this is your best bet!

However, this is more than just a Bargain Booze styled offie aimed at giving students their cheap fix. It actually stocks a jaw droppingly huge amount of varied spirits, especially vodkas, of which there is an incalculable amount coming from all over the globe. It's hugely popular, not just because of the fact it sells the answer to life's problems with such style and honesty, but also because of how friendly and unique the characters behind the counter are. Beer Ritz (laaavely play on words isn't it) is an absolute haven for beer lovers. Their selection of alcohol is probably best and most varied in Hyde Park, bringing people back in time and time again: on the way to house parties, or stocking up with wine for an evening in front of the telly. Don't expect to find a well-stocked shop in Booze Bin. They sell pretty much what the sign spells out, plus an assortment of sweets and crisps. If you're looking for bread or a paper, you'll have to go elsewhere!

The staff here are very attentive and hark back to the Oddbins I used to shop at in the early 90's. These guys are seriously into their wine and love to talk about it. There is always a bustle about the place as they run a large wholesale operation so people whizz about with trolleys loaded with boxes, but will always find time to help you with your wine buys if they can. If you want good wine and decent advice this is the plce to go in leeds. The selection is really excellent and the advice to go with it is always available with special offers always on.
