If, like me, you ever struggle to choose between about three sandwhich options then you may be liable to be frozen in cant-decide panic at the endless choices presented to you by Abu Bakar! Even the halva section appears to be never ending! They sell a wide selection of vegetables, a broad variety of juices, endless rows of pulses, spices, herbs, cakes, bread, jars of pickled items, huge sacks of rice and flour - possibly aimed at businesses but may be handy if you live in a big house, loads of condiments (including some very mysterious and tantalising items such as a pot of chololate and cherry something...spread?...whose ingredients list was in Polish only). Homeware-wise they have pots, pans, crockery and kitchen utensils. There is also a halal meat counter. As Susan mentions, Abu Bakar is aimed at the Aisian community, but for anyone like me with boringly British culinary habits it is a fascinating and exciting place of endless possibilities and obscure and intriguing ingredients.

They often have good deals on fresh fruit like mangoes, and you can pick up all the ingredients you could possibly need to cook a decent curry from scratch. The staff are really helpful, and the nearby parking means it's ideal if you need to do a large shop but don't want to do the supermarket run. Worth stopping by to check out the huge range of exotic fruit juices - hangover heaven.

If you like Waitrose then you'll love Booths! If you like Waitrose then you'll love Booths! Pretty much that's all you need to know - with amazing produce in all categories, fresh butchers, great bakery and don't get me started on the beer - quite possibly the best selection I've ever seen in a supermarket (if you're in this Ilkley branch then make sure you get a number of the Ilkley beer) This one is actually smaller than the others I've been to like Kendall and in Cheshire but still pretty awesome. Go here - blow a lot of cash, eat, repeat, get fat, love life!

Therefore, imagine my delight at finding a supermarket experience that is actually pleasant. More than pleasant in fact. Give yourselves a round of applause Booths. What a great place to shop. It's a Northern small chain and it's all about tradition and quality products. First up, it's in Ilkley which is always a nice drive to and a lush town to have a gentle stroll around. So the location is a winner even if it's not the most practical place to go on a daily basis for me. The real selling point is the products though. We're talking excellent quality and fresh as the day is young. The vegetables are always tasty and fresh and I'm always excited to see artichokes on sale. I know I need to get out more. The deli counter is simply divine and I'm always partial to some marinated garlic whilst trying to avoid the stand out cakes in the bakery section. They've also got a great mix of bottled lagers and ciders from around the world and the wines are top quality too. It retains that shop local feel tom it without cutting back on the actual quality. If you've got time, stop off at the café too for some beautiful deserts and a good old cuppa. This is how food shopping should be. Now we're talking.

That's not to say it's a bad thing, by all means it suggests that they are popular, but judging by the people of Otley this particular branch isn't quite the favourite. Nevertheless, I am not one to sniff at the underdog, more over I am the one who will visit them more so as it often means less queuing! It's always worth a try, after all if the service is no good you've only the need to find that out once. JB Wilkinson & Sons of Otley certainly isn't bad as a local butchers. They appear to have as much of an array of bits as any other butchers, with lots of tasty cuts on show from proper Sunday lunch meats to more day to day bacon style choices. One thing that I thought was particularly cool was that you could purchase ready made mixes for stir fry - thai chicken, pork and beef stir fry mixes for about £4 per lb. That's not too bad as a one off now is it? It was a little disappointing to see things such as Colemans sauce packets on sale, I like to get my indie jams, sauces and chutneys from a local butcher, as opposed to some big company ready made that is packed with preservatives. Still, as I say, not bad for meat and such - especially if you want to miss the queue at Weegmans!

As this is the only supermarket near to me i dont really have much choice but i love the supermarket anyway and dont think id shop anywhere else. This has everything i need under one roof and the store is clean and tidy and spacious with lots of choice. The prices arent the cheapest on some but then i do like brand makes - they do offer a value own brand if you want them offering a very good choice. They have a salad bar (with sneeze bar but still dont trust them) or you can go get lots of fresh salad items and make your own. They usually always have a good stock of fresh food which is updated constantly through the day. The staff are lovely and will go see if they have anything you request if it isnt out. The deli/meat counter is good and they offer a good choice for you. The chicken and pies counter is also a good buy with various meal deals to be had - the chicken is quite dear but they do a budget full size chicken which is gorgeous. They make fresh cream cakes/buns/pastries, etc and bread onsite which is lovely. They also have a butcher who will cut a piece of meat for you how you want or a fishmonger who does the same. All in all it is everything you could wish for under one roof at reasonable prices. The cafe is a bit slack in the service and the prices are a bit steep and admittedly the food isnt the best but you cant have everything. The queues are horrendous as there is only one till to pay for everything. They also have secure trolley bays incase you want to leave your trolley while you go somewhere else. Inside the store there is also a travel agents, bank, chemist, bagshop, cardshop and dry cleaners. The toilets could do with being checked more often and there is usually one or more out of order - there is sometimes a big queue for them.

Although the cafe isn't brilliant the supermarket alone more than makes up for it. A fairly large…read moresupermarket stocking plenty of special offers. If you don't mind sticking things in the freezer till you need them then can I suggest you go half an hour before close as they reduce all the fresh breads etc to silly prices. :)
