My confession...I'm doing this update basically to add photos of the development of the dog park to date! My husband hikes this area up in the hills west of us & mentioned to me that fencing had been put up -- so Phase I of the LowGap dog park is done? So I drove over there early this AM to take photos. There's no signage yet. But I knew where to find it. Parked the car in the lot by the tennis courts, and took the walkway under redwoods & pines, over the bridge and on up the small incline. And there it was! How nicely situated. 2 very large, separate fenced- in areas [one for small, one for large dogs-- both with double entry gates] and both enclosing big grassy areas and quite a few large oak trees. It is a 1+ acre parcel . I was so impressed. I didn't see water stations yet, or a dispenser for doggie bags, so this phase is not complete. And there's no word on when it may open for use. I sure hope it's sooner than next Spring! I just read on the website http://www.lowgapdogpark.org/ that Phase II includes water, shade trees, benches and structures, and dog play equipment! That sounds like fun. No mention of how much more is needed to be raised for Phase II, but fundraising will continue towards the further improvements. The dogs & their people are going to love it! PS-- Just was told, by husband in the know, that he has seen dogs & their people using it already! How great is that!!

Adjacent tree stands tall with a hallow base. Plenty of room to walk in. Brighter than other sites that are heavily shaded. Disturbingly, several trees lean or have fallen. The roads were a bit bumpy but nothing we couldn't handle. Restrooms were well maintained. We didn't use the showers, but it was nice knowing we had the option if needed... and it seemed like they were nice and hot since other guests were using them and the mirrors were fogging up (not complaining). We did notice a lot of brush piles, so hopefully they are actively taking care of the forest to prevent forest fires. Loved that we weren't too far from the beaches and enjoyed a day at Fort Bragg. We will definitely return.

It's a large, fenced in park with wood chips on the ground, and trees all around creating lots of shade, even on hot days. Pups have so much space to run free and sniff and play and check their pee-mail. Sensory and exercise heaven! There's a path around the inside of the park that is now paved, so a great little walking loop for the humans, if you want to get some movement in too. The new shade structure is large with tables and chairs. There are a few water spouts/fountains, and at least 3 poop bag dispensers and garbage cans. Be a good citizen and keep the park clean - scoop the poop! Our pups absolutely love this park - such a great place to socialize with other dogs. It's really helped our younger pup who is sometimes reactive when on leash. She's so much calmer and more confident off-leash. Our pups enthusiastically jump out of the car upon arrival, and leave the park tired and content! Happy dogs, happy humans!

We were looking for a place to camp this year and since we no longer want to camp in a tent, I was…read morelooking for a cabin. There are very few within a 3-4 hour distance from where I live and most go quickly. I was fortunate to find a cabin at Clear Lake and we booked for two nights in the middle of the week. That is easier to find than the weekends. We went in early July and the weather was perfect, traffic getting there was clear as well since it was midweek, the last 10 miles winding into the mountains was a bit scary and tiresome but well worth the drive. Someone from the park called that day to check when we would be arriving so they could arrange check in. We got there around 3:30 and check in, which was easy. Note that if you are going to a cabin, make that clear, the attendant assumed that it was a tent site and told us that the particular site was reserved for employees. As I was getting to the point that I was getting upset, he realized that I was talking about a cabin. I didn't realize that I had to clarify that. They gave me a map to the park, which is quite large and very beautiful. Lots of tent camping sites but only one area for the cabins. The only downside was that the cabins, about 10 of them, are very close to each other. Each cabin has 2 bunk beds, a picnic table, a counter top and open closet. They also have electricity and A/C, all on timers. I love that the cabins have Dutch doors! Bathrooms are very close to the cabins and the parking. You have to pay for the showers and buy the tokens from the camp host who lives right by the cabins. You are not allowed to put up a tent in the cabin area. All the cabins have picnic tables and fire pits and they all face a beautiful meadow that is private to the cabins. The park has lots of hiking trails, dogs are welcome, an area for swimming and for fishing. I believe you can rent boats but since we did not do that, I am not 100% positive. The water was not clear but we had a great time swimming and trying to catch fish, we did not succeed but it was one of the best camping trips in memory. I can write pages but in summary, it was a fantastic experience with many wineries within 15-30 minutes from the entrance of the park. I would highly recommend.

The cabin was clean and roomy. It even had AC, which we didn't need to use. But what surprised me the most was the amount of wildlife we saw in less than 24 hours. We saw deer families on two occasions, a gray fox, osprey, great blue herons, black crowned herons, Asian bullfrogs (invasive) and their tadpoles, grebes, quail, scrub jays, ducks, squirrels (of course), etc. (We did not see any otters of beavers- maybe next time.) The campsites looked clean and serene. The beach area likewise. And all the people who worked there were friendly (entrance booth, site host, rangers). Overall, one of the best "camping" experiences ever in my 65 years.
