This is a cute little consignment store specifically for baby/kid/maternity items. I love that it is so close to where we live, making it convenient to drop by if we are ever looking to pick up something 'new' for our kiddo. I have also been trying to be more mindful about my environmental impact and overconsumption, and trying to buy 'gently used' items for my toddler whenever I can. We found a few cute items that we needed to upsize, but I found the store super cluttered and very difficult to navigate. Unfortunately, they do not buy used items for resale; they are only a consignment store, so this is probably not a great place to get rid of used baby items in bulk. However, they do offer an exchange opportunity monthly, which - from my understanding - is where you can bring in a bag of items in exchange for a bag of items. I hate buying baby stuff new since its useful period is always shorter than I'd like, so I've been scouring the Bay Area for the best secondhand baby stores. Lovely Bump has a decent mix of clothes, books, toys, and gear at very reasonable prices. Couple those prices with their current yelp deal ($10 for $20 credit) and the bargains are even better! My baby is very young (three months) and is just learning how to grasp. I'm mad at myself for spending $10 on the ever-so-popular Oball on Amazon after finding several Oball toys here for at least half off the regular price. I docked a star because the inventory isn't as robust as some of the other stores I've seen around. I'd drop by if I was in the area but probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

Thought I would try this consignment store/store. I was a little overwhelmed when I first walked in. A lot going on in this store. Plan to spend a while in here. I was hoping to walk out with a lot of things for my newly expecting daughter. We are on a budget so I figured let's See what deals I could find. I did find a really good deal on a travel bassinet crib. Only 35.00$. Saw the same one online someone was selling for 75.00. So that was a good find for us. I've been coming to this place for years and the owner has always been nice and professional but the assistant woman (Latina with glasses) is just so friggin rude that I'm done coming here! I traded in some items and received store credit. Then I went in to purchase some stuff. My kids are growing so there was nothing in the store at that moment that we needed so I opted for some puzzles and cute little hair ribbons. Everything and I mean every. single. thing. I chose to purchase I couldn't. There was a rule (one that I was never made aware of in years of coming here) that you can't buy "new items" with store credit. They only take $$$ for new Items. Fortunately I'm in a position where I can afford to buy my children whatever they want, but I liked to come here because I enjoy vintage shopping and a bargain like anyone else. However, it seems like for people who can't afford to purchase the new items with money, the store credit that they get means they can only buy other used things. It's a bit elitist and shaming if you ask me. The mom who can't afford to buy those puzzles can't even do so at a secondhand store either with her credit....and that's not something I think I want to support. If operational costs don't allow for such items, then maybe it's time to evaluate your business plan. J/s That's aside, the number one reason I won't be coming here anymore is the rude assistant. Once she finished lecturing me on their "rules" I told her that was fine and that I didn't need the credit then. I would rather give my items away to someone who needed them. She refused to help me and told me I had to come back when the owner was there. Mind you there is a full list of what my items were and photos and she still "couldn't " help me. That's a super inefficient way to run a business and making people waste valuable time coming back-and-forth back-and-forth when all I wanted was my stuff back is just ridiculous. I made a stop in here to pick up some gifts before visiting my friend who just had a baby and was able to quickly make several options that I knew she would like. My total was less than $7 for everything, which was a great value. I went to LB today after getting coffee with the SBMC . . . I brought my newborn in a sling and walked around for a bit while the owner was busy taking in items from a family. I please to see that the used items we like new and some new items were just so cute. My daughter started to fuss and Beth (the owner) told me I was welcome to use the rocking chair to nurse her, she helped me turn it from the door and I did so. Then I need to change her (but thinking I would only be a few minutes didn't bring my diaper bag - dumb!) and noticed there was a changing table and diapers!!! I asked if I could use one and she said of course! I bought a cute organic cotton outfit that was hand decorated on the shirt . . . it was priced as 2 separate pieces by accident so she gave it to me for 4 dollars cheaper! And I got 2 sleeping nursing bras for 12 buxs! Much cheaper than online! The store would be hard to navigate a stroller thru but that is mainly b/c she has great items in there! I am excited to bring in some Maternity clothes for resale 1/ 09 EDIT: I have now been the store half a million times. I LOVE it, always something for a cheaper price than BRU. As for reviews about it being overpriced . . . I disagree. And if an item is high, I ask her if it has been there for along and if it lower now. To all my parents, uncles, aunties or grandparents.. Come here !!!! This place is definitely a little safe haven for us parents with tiny people who grow up and out of things in a blink of an eye. They have everything from onesies to cribs to strollers. And not just any stuff but very well named brand items. I seen a few Uppababy strollers and car seats. A crib and changing table combo for under $300. You guys this place is totally worth it. I am not ashamed to buy my son used clothes or using hand me downs because by next month he'll be using 6 months clothes and a month after that 9 months. We already know buying baby stuff isn't cheap so save where you can. they even have Mocassin and Uggs for babies. They also carry maternity clothing and clothes for toddlers. This place is so awesome! The clothing there is in really great condition, and its at a great price! We are expecting twins, and so buying clothing (especially little onesies) really adds up. We bought like over 30 things (onesies, socks, hats) for just a little over 40 bucks! You are not going to find that anywhere else. And some of it is name brand stuff. There are not too many used kids' clothing stores, so I am thankful for one. The selection is not spectacular, but the prices are great. How can you beat $2 for T-shirts or pants? Kids outgrow clothes so quickly, so I really do not want to pay retail prices all the time. I've gotten a few items here and have been pretty happy. It is a small business. If you come with low expectations, you will walk away pleased with an unexpected find. Happened across this store on our way to lunch. Low prices on gently used clothing, toys, baby accessories, maternity stuff, etc. I was able to purchase a baby standing play station for about $11 (likely $40 plus new). The employee there was very friendly and offered her help, showing me several other styles of play stations. Though the assortment was great, the space felt crowded and cluttered. I understand that it's difficult to keep a small store with that many items well organized, but that was the impression. Beth the owner is very nice , sincere and recycle person. I really like her ideal that lots of things can reuse for someone who really needs and inexpensive price. Beth is awesome! I needed an infant car seat for a day, for transport from SFO. My niece recommended Lovely Bump from her recent experiences with them. What a perfect little store! The car seat was in such great shape and priced decently, that I ended up just buying it - I figured I could ensure it goes to good use afterwards (she was willing to rent it out for $10/day and often rents out to professional drivers). Unless you can afford to purchase an entirely new wardrobe every 9 months, when the bun is in the oven, you've got to find a few budget options to keep you from wearing the exact same pair of maternity pants for 1/2 your pregnancy. Thankfully, Lovely has a decent selection for startlingly low prices (lower even, than many thrift stores offer for "normal" clothes). Most articles cost between $3-$12, and that includes clothes that are nice enough for work. On top of this savings, you can sell it right back to them when you get all slim again (notice I said "when" - power of belief, my friends). There is also quite an assortment of baby/children's clothing, toys, strollers and other baby paraphernalia that I don't even understand at this point in my pregnancy, but that is probably useful. My house was being taken over by baby clothes. I needed to sell them, and found this store online. I called and was told I needed an appointment. I made an appointment......7 weeks later, that's when I could be fit in. So i went in at my appointment time. The owner was meeting with her accountant and ignored me for few minutes, finally she said hello and asked me to wait for a minute. A minute turned into 15 minutes. What the heck was the point of an APPOINTMENT?? I went in with 6 bags of clothes. She handed me back 2 bags and said she knew she wouldn't use those clothes. She slowly went through the other bags while talking loudly to her accountant. Annoying to sat the least. After about 35 minutes I got my 'credit'. I returned to the store to use my credit and the same woman was there. She was again rude. Speaking loudly on the phone with a friend. She continued to talk about someones new job and their low salary. Very personal conversation, one I didn't care to hear. Overall, the owner is rude and the items are not as great as other secondhand stores. Won't shop/trade there again. read more

I stopped in here with a large bag of designer maternity clothes (Paige denim, Japanese weekend, Michal Stars, etc.). I was told that I needed an appointment , though there were no other customers. The woman told me as they "don't use computers" at the store, it would take too long to go through my bag. Um, OK. The woman then asked me if I shopped at second hand stores very often. When I replied no, she changed her tone to snarky and muttered that Lovely Bump has a policy of giving credits that are only good for 30 days. She explained that her best customers are those who love second hand, ie., they are there all the time. What a sweet little consignment shop! After driving around with a napping baby in the back seat, I decided to check out downtown San Bruno for the first time. Lovely Bump is situated next to Starbucks and across from Lullabye Lane. Unlike many consignment shops, it is incredibly clean and organized. They didn't have a huge selection on the day that I was there, but I did find some great stuff (maybe 5 or 6 clothing items, a ride-on toy lion, and a very cute bib) for under $30. Beth, the owner, is very cool, a total sweetheart, and very helpful. She was also quite patient when my 15 month old son started having a meltdown as I was paying at the register. I wish I had been pregnant up here in SF. There are NO consignment shops for maternity clothes down in LA, so not only was I fat and ugly, but I was wearing hideous maternity clothes that I paid way too much money for. Stopped by today in search of a booster seat that straps onto another chair, a walker, zip hoodies, and toys. I wasn't able to find any suitable toys but I did find not one but two booster seats that were about $15 each, a walker marked down for $18, a cute zip-up hoodie for $6 by Carters that looked like it had been barely worn, and a cute 100% organic cotton 2 piece pj set marked down for $1.75. Yee haw! I scooted outta there like that crazy woman in the Ikea commercial yelling at her husband to "start the car, start the car!!" because she thought she was getting away with a crime from paying so little. In general, I haven't been here in a couple of months but they sure cleaned up and reorganized the place! It looks great now! The aisles are clearer and it's much easier to sort through stuff. Their book section looks way better with more offerings but their toys section looks pretty sad now (used to be the other way around). There was a nice woman who helped me with figuring out the price for the booster seat I got and whether or not the walker could be adjusted to a higher level (the spud is getting tall already). I negotiated the price a bit with her since I was buying so many things and without too much effort I was able to get a small discount. That's what I'm talking 'bout! Great customer service! I found a baby ktan wrap but was perplexed on how to try it on. The kind lady working there said "I think there's a video on YouTube. Let me look" She could have easily told me to look it up myself but she actually looked it up and showed me how simple it was so use. Thanks lady! Every time I drive down San mateo Ave I always see this store and each time I say to myself I really need to stop in there one day. The day finally came when I made the decision to check it out. I have a 9 month old boy and having a baby everyone knows how fast they grow out of their clothes. Outside there was a selection of strollers so even though I don't need one I decided to check out the prices. I was really impressed with the prices. Plus all the strollers looked practically brand new. Once inside I was in baby shopping heaven. All the clothes were neatly categorized and marked boys and girls. I headed straight to the boy section and in seconds I had already started picking out clothes for my baby. There was a clearance section of clothes in the back in size/gender marked bins ranging from $0.50-$2.00. Clothing wise I think this store had wonderful bargains. The most expensive clothing item I bought was a cute bear sweater for $2.95! I was thrilled to see that there also was a selection of hats and baseball caps. It was perfect since my son just lost him old navy cap the other day. I was able to pick him up a GAP cap along with 2 other hats for a total of $2!! Can't beat that. I also picked up a couple of toys for him also. A leapfrog learning animal and a vtec driving noise toy. Extremely cheap and the toys were in excellent condition. The prices in the store are priced right and in this economy this is exactly what people with infants and young children need. There is an assortment of shoes, hair accessories, and socks also. I also liked the fact that the owner and the employee in the store pretty much left me alone. They did greet me when I came in the store but left me alone after that. I liked that aspect as I do not like it when sales people follow me around the store. I felt they were very friendly and they treated me well. Overall I am so glad i finally discovered this store. For the little amount of money I spent I came home with a great haul of items for my son. I will definitely be back! Tip: Bring your own bag also. I think Lovely Bump helps lots of parents save money on the most important thing in their lives - their kids! More parents should frequent consignment stores to donate or sell back items that they no longer have a need for, so that other people can make good use of them. Personally, I always go to trade in clothes that my son no longer wears for size of pants, jackets, shirts and shoes that are two sizes bigger in preparation for him growing quickly. If I have money leftover, I'll get him whatever toys or books that the store has in stock. If your son is like mine, he gets tired of seeing the old toys just sitting around the house and for some reason won't play with them anymore. Cue in...a store like "Lovely Bump". It's located in the heart of San Bruno, where there are families and kids EVERYWHERE. It's also down the block and across the street from Lullaby Lane - which when I look it up, says it's closed? Probably because it was too expensive. Sure, they had super cute baby and kids items but they were waay too pricey. So, you walk farther down the street and Beth's shop is like a breathe of fresh air. A haven for budget-minded moms! Here's a few of my observations: 1. People have a bad view of consignment, because they feel their stuff is worth more than it is. If that's the case, take the time to sell it on craigslist/ebay yourself because it's a BUSINESS. They somehow have to pay for rent and make $. 2. Lovely Bump is clean. The owner uses wood hangers, categorizes everything, launders things (ie: I have a dog that sheds, so his hair sticks to everything) 3. I think you have to go often to get the good stuff. Lovely! I came in to the store to do a trade in consignment as well as shop for my new arrival. The trade in was easy, I texted Beth about an appointment as well as a description and photos of the items I wanted to trade in. She agreed, had me leave the items with an employee, and that she'd get back to me about a trade in value. Later that day, she texted me back with my credit. Easy. And I'm glad I can declutter with some items I don't need and buy things that I actually do need. The shop itself is very cute. A hair cluttered but still well organized. The prices are fantastic. I hate the thought of buying all new baby stuff and this shop is much better than going to a Goodwill. Everything I looked through was CLEAN and in great condition! The clothing inventory was a little lower than I expected but I'm pretty sure that's because I went right before Christmas. There was so much barely used stuff, it was unbelievable. Strollers, a nice looking crib, rock 'n plays and similar rockers, books, games, maternity clothes, and lots of baby clothes! Everything from onesies to rompers to socks. I was able to pick up Zutano booties ($21 brand new!), two onesies, three kimono shirts, a fleece jacket, a shirt/pant set, and a pair of footie pants for $20!!!! Amazing. Bought and sold clothes here- both maternity and baby items. Great local shop, hard to find in the Bay Area. You can find items from maternity pants, tops to new born clothes, blankets, strollers... All for a fraction of what you would pay at a retail store- and most of the items are in great condition. They even have a bathroom and changing table so you can take your time shopping. I really liked this place when we first went there but on repeat visits I have found it to have a very limited selection. The various store policies are confusing, especially not being allowed to use store credit for new things. They have refused to evaluate old clothes I wanted to trade in because "we're too busy" but I guess that doesn't translate to there being a variety of clothing on the racks. I got so sick of coming to this store and not finding anything that I just spent my whole credit yesterday on things that were way too big just so I wouldn't have to come back here again. read more

Great second-hand and boutique store. Excellent prices. Babies grow. I'd hate to waste money on crap they will grow out of in 2 weeks. It goes that fast. And they grow that big. This place provides an outlet for everyone to maximize use of baby items. If you've been reading your ad-thickened version of parenting magazine, and have an urge to follow what they've told you, go ahead and buy all your baby accessories that you "need" to have. Then you can shove all your cosleepers, MacLaren strollers, and noise machines into your Honda Oddessy and drive into your 3 car garage. Once you get out of the car and set your kid down, don't be surprised if you they are most interested in an empty bottle...or an empty cereal box, and prefers the comfort of a simple white onesie. Popped in to grab a ticket for the upcoming Baby Faire and was impressed to see a lot of used baby clothes, both boys' and girls', maternity clothes, and some equipment (cribs, carriers, etc.) at very surprisingly reasonable prices ($1-2 and up). There were also some new items: swaddling cloths, printed onesies, headbands, etc. While I would definitely give this place a shot, I did honestly have to wonder why it had a slightly thrift store-like feel... The owner is a sweet, honest and knowledgeable person. It's worth the drive all the way to San Bruno to shop at this store.
