TLDR: best dog school in South Bay Los Angeles, best money ever spent. I spent a ton of time, money, and resources going to three dog schools so that whoever reading this doesn't have to. Let me tell you guys something Love Ur k9 is literally the best dog school in South Bay Los Angeles. Before this, I tried one school that's a franchise chain where they don't allow you to say "no" to correct bad behaviors which does not work. I also went to a behaviorist who was very good but some unrealistic expectations for dog human coexistence. I was desperate as my new puppy was biting us to the point of bleeding and does not listen or walk well. Love Ur K9 the only one that is practical and yields massive positive results. This is the school where you send your dog to the school like a kindergarten and then you pick up your dog at the end of the day and the master trainers will review with you the training that they've done so that you have homework to do at home and train your dog continuously. Everyone here from the owners who are Toya & Kevin to all the employees such as Blake are so competent. Kev is a certified AKC evaluator. They are loving friendly and dog living. In my opinion, loving your dog does not mean letting them do whatever they want, which is like spoiling your kid, and then it will cause him to get into trouble. From this school, my dog has learned to respect humans. Listen to commands sit and walk properly go to place and play well with other dogs. Some nice to haves: Toya Leo provide an in-house class where she will evaluate the situation at home. Under her guidance, we transformed our living space from one that is only catering to our dog and giving her way too much space to one that is more balanced where she has her own room and space and we got our living room back. Toya also hosts free park classes for current informer clients. I believe the quality of a school is reflected in how well-behaved the dogs are in the group classes. This is the only one where every dog is for the most part, attentive and following commands so all the dog parents and dog friends your dog will meet are gonna be top-notch. Also, there's a very cute graduation ceremony and a free training leash Lastly, the training facility shares the same space as our favorite dog daycare center called Down Dog Lodge.

Everything went well! Love Ur K9 has truly been a godsend for our family. Before Lucky, we had never owned a dog, so stepping into that world felt overwhelming. Bringing him home was not the best decision we ever made, choosing Toya, Kevin, and the Love Ur K9 team to train him was. They provide more than training. They create structure, consistency, and a real understanding that completely transformed our relationship with Lucky. He is the dog he is today because of them. We also live in a very dog heavy community, and what made a huge difference is that they don't just train in a vacuum. They come to your home and work with you out in your actual neighborhood, helping you navigate real world situations with other dogs, distractions, and different environments. That was incredibly valuable. What we appreciate most is the continued support. Anytime Lucky needs a reset, their tune up sessions get him right back on track quickly and effectively. Hands down the best investment we've made for our dog. The only sad part is that they won't be down the street from us anymore, but thankfully Redondo isn't that far away.

I cannot say enough great things about Love Ur K9. They helped train my 5-year-old French bulldog to become my service dog, and the entire experience exceeded my expectations. From day one, the trainers, Toya, Kevin and Blake were incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and patient. They truly took the time to understand both my dog and my specific needs. I was a little nervous starting service dog training with an "older" dog, but they absolutely proved that the saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is completely wrong. One thing that really set them apart was the hands-on training sessions at LAX. They worked with us directly in the airport environment, which made a huge difference in preparing my dog for flying. Because of that training, she was calm, confident, and comfortable when it came time for her very first flight. I'm happy to say she did AMAZING on her first trip -- she completed all of her service tasks flawlessly and absolutely knocked it out of the park with TSA. I couldn't have asked for a better experience or outcome. If you're looking for a training center that is experienced, compassionate, and truly invested in helping both you and your dog succeed, I highly recommend Love Ur K9. We are beyond grateful for everything they did for us. They helped make our holidays one we and our dog will never forget! - Laurie W.

Okay here it goes... an incredibly long overdue and extremely deserving review for Kevin, Latoya, Sam, Mel, etc. at LoveUrK9 in El Segundo. I think I have taken so long to post this review because I could never find quite the right words to express my appreciation for these incredible individuals time and dedication to my dog, Finn. I adopted Finn when he was five months old after being on a stray hold, and boy was he cute but he was nothing shy of a disaster. He had never been on a leash before and had been roaming the streets for his entire life up until this point. I was doing the best that I could under the circumstances, but was struggling intensely every day with him. I was so overwhelmed and vividly remember spending nights driving around with him in my car sobbing & not knowing what to do. I heard about Kevin and Latoya's training program through a coworker and decided that I needed to get him into their program as soon as possible. The first thing that I loved about their training method is that they are not treat-based and instead use love and affection as a form of affirmation for dogs when training. This is something that I had not heard of before and really respected. Kevin and Latoya completely changed mine and Finn's lives forever not only did they teach him basic commands like sit, down, stay and go to place, but they also taught him how to LISTEN, walk properly on a leash, have impeccable recall, and eventually, how to be an off leash dog. Another thing that Finn struggled with for a long time is reactivity towards people and dogs. This felt like an impossible thing to overcome to me, especially living in an apartment complex, but Kevin and Latoya healed him of his reactivity through behavioral training. I went from hiding in my apartment and avoiding all contact with dogs and people, to watching Finn make best friends with dogs in my complex, taking him to restaurants and the grocery store, and pretty much everywhere with me. I never thought this would be possible for him. I get complemented every single day by people on how well-behaved and what an angel Finn is, and I always tell people that I owe it all to LoveUrK9. I could not have done it without them, and my life simply would not look the way it does if it weren't for them. I would recommend their training to anyone and everyone with a dog. It is beyond worth it, and I feel blessed every single day to have met them. All the love, Emma

I absolutely love *Love Ur K9*! They transformed my puppy, Buddy, from a little terror who bit everyone and chewed everything in sight into a well-behaved, fun-loving pup who listens and respects his family. Before finding *Love Ur K9*, I had hired another trainer, and wow--what a waste of money. I paid for a package of sessions and didn't even finish them because they were so ineffective. So when I first called Toya, I was skeptical. She completely understood my hesitation and said, *"I totally understand your skepticism, so why don't you just pop in and see our operation?"* That visit changed everything. When I walked into the training room, I saw 15-20 puppies all sitting perfectly on their cots, not moving an inch. I looked at Toya and immediately said, *"Sold."* Haha! Over the next few weeks, we saw dramatic changes in Buddy's behavior. He stopped pulling on the leash, always comes when called, listens attentively, and will sit in his place--even with chaos happening around him. Kevin and Toya, the owners, are fantastic. Every day when you pick up your dog, they take the time to train *you* so you can maintain your pup's progress at home. Their team--Mel, Duwane, and Blake--are amazing as well. You can tell they genuinely love the dogs and what they do. If you're looking for a top-tier dog training bootcamp, *Love Ur K9* is *the* place to go! Buddy is going to miss them, but since we live just a few blocks away, we'll be stopping by from time to time to say hi. Highly recommend!

I cannot recommend Latoya and Kevin enough. Our way too cute corgi puppy, Kimchi, was super reactive and leash aggressive. He was so out of control walks were difficult, we couldn't leave the windows open because he would bark if he saw/heard a dog. No exaggeration it was a pretty intense case of a corgi who was convinced he was the boss. I signed Kimchi up for the 6 week program (and extended it by 2 weeks because Kimchi was thriving) and Kevin and Latoya were so sure that we could train him out of his "special" ways. I was cautiously optimistic. Kimchi LOVED going school, he loves both Latoya & Kevin as well as their staff. I never once felt like he wasn't happy or safe. "School" was FUN for him. Flash forward 8 weeks: my boy was laying in place with all the other dogs around, no more reaction to other dogs on our walks, he's awesome with my kids, he can look out the window all day and not bark at the dogs walking by. He is now living his best his best life: wine tasting in SB, dinners out, Sunday walks at the Botanical Gardens. Follow the program, do the homework and Kevin and Latoya will get you and your pooch living in harmony. It works! We still do the group classes as much as we can and work every day to keep up the lessons we learned. I cannot emphasize how much the training at LoveURK9 has save my mental health. Kimchi is now the puppy we knew always he could be. If you are considering training your puppy or your dog call Latoya and Kevin!!!

Highly, highly recommend this place if you need any help with your new puppy. Toya and Kevin turned Frank from a psycho puppy to a well-adjusted gentleman dog! And they are two of the best people we have ever met in LA. They really, truly care about your dog as if it's their own. They have tons of options and we're flexible in meeting Frank's unique needs as a wild Australian Shepherd puppy. They are responsive 24/7 with questions that pop up. Also, they are Frank's go-to babysitters when we need. Frank always returns exhausted, healthy and happy! It's been a month since Frank graduated and he is sooooo much better, well-behaved, obedient, yet still his same fun loving self. 100 stars for Love Ur K9!

The best dog training my pup has received. I tried a few different ones when I first got my puppy, then I was referred to Kevin and Toya from a trusted dog owner and friend, as well as the dog rescue I got my puppy from. They have taught me so much about owning and training a dog. I did the board and train for 6 days. I would also do hour private classes as well as leave my dog for the day and then have a mini class at the end of the day. With so many ways to learn and grow with your dog, I think everyone could benefit from their services. Brilliant and very kind team who has helped my dog gain confidence. We even go back for a refresher course, now and then. I can't recommend them enough!

Where to start! We are first time Australian Cattle Dog Owners (Thumper!), and we knew we needed to find the best trainers in the area, mostly for us and partly for our dog. Kevin and Toya are everything and more. Shortly after getting Thumper, we left him with Kevin and Toya for a bootcamp. He was a new dog when we got him back. Over the past 2 years, Thumper has frequented Love Ur K9 group classes, specialty sessions, and more. We're able to bring him on trips, take him to restaurants, and have him roam freely around friends and their kids. Anyone with an ACD knows how much energy they have and how much patience and time they require. Kevin and Toya taught us so many ways to work with our dog at home which has been amazing for him and for us. More importantly, Kevin and Toya have become part of our family. They're incredible people who truly love what they do and how they do it. We trust them immensely and recommend them to anyone and everyone!

Latoya, Kevin and the team are absolutely fantastic! My 2 year old golden retriever would NOT get in the car. Every little trip was a struggle and I found myself walking him everywhere I wanted to take him. I tried 3 other trainers before finding LoveUrK9. Nothing worked or even came close. In just 2 weeks, my dog is better behaved and he jumped in the car on his own today! It seriously almost brought me to tears. I can't recommend LoveUrK9 enough...I only wish I found them sooner.

    group classes on the pier

literally, the best decision we could have made (after adopting our rescue) was bring her to toya and kevin. sammie did a 4 weeks program, with drop off 3 days a week and we have seen so much improvement in her leash manners, stranger danger reactivity and small dog aggression. the trainers there really loved her! and as her humans, we also learned a ton and are becoming better leaders. we are so grateful to love ur k9 for giving all of us confidence!

Toya and Kevin are the best! In addition to training our puppy well, they take the extra time to really care for all their dogs and make helpful suggestions such as what food to give them, best leashes for training, beds etc. The love they give will always be remembered by our puppy and us. I highly recommend the board and train program starting with crate training at 8-weeks old. Having a new puppy sleep through the night is a game changer!

Like any parent and dog owner, we were heartbroken and overwhelmed, not knowing how to move forward safely. After reading so many incredible reviews about Brian across different forums, we decided to reach out--and I'm so grateful we did. Brian helped us understand Hudson (our dog) on a completely different level. He took the time to explain the fears and anxiety driving Hudson's behavior and gave us practical tools to help him feel more secure and confident. Instead of just addressing the behavior itself, Brian helped us see what Hudson was experiencing and how to support him in a way that actually works. Over time, we've seen such meaningful progress. Most importantly, I now feel so much more comfortable and confident with my daughter interacting with Hudson. That peace of mind is something I truly can't put into words. If you're dealing with a challenging or scary situation with your dog, I can't recommend Brian highly enough. His knowledge, patience, and ability to help both dogs and owners understand each other is truly remarkable. We're incredibly grateful we found him.

TL;DR: The Way of the Dog is, quite literally, the best dog training experience in Los Angeles…read more Brian Lee is a pillar of the South Bay dog community. Across Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Palos Verdes, and beyond, a surprising number of dog owners I've met have trained with him at some point -- and without exception, they speak highly of the experience. That reputation alone says a lot. What you get is not a typical obedience class. The program consists of five focused, no-nonsense behaviorist sessions grounded in a deep understanding of dog psychology, plus ongoing, supervised pack-socialization events (think structured dog parties, not chaotic dog parks). The emphasis is on how dogs think, not on rote commands. The training style is dense, unconventional, and unapologetically dogmatic -- in a good way. Brian does not start with commands. Instead, he teaches you to understand your dog as a born hunter with physical, mental, and social needs. Once you understand that framework, behaviors fall into place naturally. Watching him settle a dog mid-zoomie without a single command honestly looks like magic. If your goal is to teach tricks or formal commands, I'd recommend pairing this additionally with a balanced-method obedience school. I would not recommend "positive-reinforcement-only" programs like Zoom Room. In my experience -- and based on what I've seen firsthand -- that approach often fails in real-world situations. Many of the worst-behaved dogs I've encountered came out of those programs, including ours. So why listen to Brian? He has over 40 years of experience and has worked with more than 40,000 dogs. And in a time when "positive reinforcement only" has become the fashionable -- and often misleading -- default, The Way of the Dog is one of the few remaining programs that actually produces calm, stable, well-behaved dogs. We ended up here because Zoom Room training failed us badly. Our puppy was biting us so severely that I seriously considered rehoming her. This program changed everything. We learned how to be kind and strong leaders, how to meet our dog's core needs, and how to train both her and ourselves consistently -- especially through the very real chaos of the "teenage dog" phase. This business deserves five-star reviews across the board. If you look at the rare one-star reviews, they simply don't add up -- and Brian has already addressed them directly. Complaints about "teaching commands" are fake; and complaints about "fear-based training" miss the entire point of the program. Brian is direct, honest, and doesn't sugarcoat reality -- which is exactly what many people need, even if they don't want to hear it. In short, based on both my own experience and consistent feedback from other dog owners, our dog now behaves 10x better than most dogs we encounter -- calmer, more disciplined, and far less reactive. And yes, I'm officially a dog snob now. I have zero tolerance for poorly trained dogs at parks -- especially humping, biting humans, or owners who excuse bad behavior. Once you've seen what good training actually looks like, there's no going back.

When I asked about the next visit, Justine said future sessions would be done through FaceTime instead of in-home training. During the initial lesson, I clearly explained that Happy does not pull on the leash. Despite this, Justine brought a metal collar designed to prevent pulling and tried to put it on Happy, which was confusing and disappointing. I also explained that because Happy is a small dog, I wanted to learn proper heel training so he could walk safely beside me. Instead, Justine said it was fine for him to walk behind me. I do not feel this is safe for a small dog, as he could easily pick something up from the ground or encounter larger dogs from behind. As a result, I paid $1,895 but received only one 30-minute in-person session. My request for a partial refund or reassignment to another trainer was denied. I am sharing this experience so that other customers can fully understand the training approach and contract terms before committing. Clarification: The three-hour visit mentioned by the trainer, Justine, refers to the separate $300 initial lesson, which I paid for in advance and which actually lasted about 2.5 hours. The first session under the $1,895 Gold Lifetime program lasted about 30 minutes. Update: The owner responded claiming I "refused to book lessons." Attached are text screenshots proving the opposite. When I requested in-person visits every 2 weeks, the trainer replied: "I don't work that way" and offered only FaceTime instead. I did not refuse -- the trainer refused to provide the service I paid for.

Because of his calm and positive approach, Coco was always excited whenever it was time for his lessons. Since the training was done privately in our home, we were also able to see how attentive and happy Coco was whenever Tim came through the door. He also helped Coco learn how to behave appropriately and interact with other dogs at the park. Before his training, Coco was often scared and hesitant whenever we took him to the park. Now he is more confident around other dogs. Seeing that change has been amazing for us! We are very grateful to Tim for his patience, expertise, and dedication to Coco. You can truly tell that he loves what he does and understands dogs very well. We highly recommend Tim to anyone looking for an experienced, professional, patient, and compassionate dog trainer. We couldn't be happier with Coco's progress! Thank you, Tim, for helping our little Coco become a more confident and well-behaved dog!

I cannot recommend Tim enough for your fur baby!…read more Tim worked with our Great Dane/German Shepard mix for puppy training when he was just 4 months old, and again for "boot camp" when our dog was just under 18 months old. Tim taught our puppy the basics of potty training, to more advanced commands. He helped us get rid of our dog's "resource guarding" food habits, and made it so I could take him on walks without being pulled around! Tim's passion and love for dogs shines through in his interactions. He is kind, a clear communicator, and an expert in his field. Let Tim give your doggy the help they need!

I worked with several trainers, but once we met Courtney, we knew she was the perfect fit for us! It's only been a few weeks, and I've already seen so much progress. We went from barking and screaming at every single thing that moved to just whining briefly and then continuing our walk. It used to be extremely stressful to walk Marty, but now I feel so much more confident and know how to set boundaries. Courtney is incredibly communicative and patient, which has made such a difference in learning how to manage Marty's reactivity. She truly loves the dogs she works with, and you can tell how dedicated and supportive she is. I also love that so many of her clients are women--it made me feel even more comfortable from the start. I genuinely recommend Courtney if you're looking for any type of dog training. She is incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and helpful! Thank you, Courtney! :)
