So, when all is said and done, expensive clothes for kids are a big no-no in my book. However... my sometimes overwhelmingly ridiculous side cannot help but be bowled over by the sight of a three year old in a military style woolen coat. Something along the lines of how I react to Pets At Home. OHOSOCUTE!! And you know, sometimes I think it strengthens the bond between mother and child by having the child dressed so smartly, so... sometimes - SOMETIMES it's worth getting the high quality stuff and keeping your child away from all puddles and ice-cream on days they're wearing it. The rest of the time, I do think wasting money in such a fashion is insane. But for those special times - head along here and ease your fashion minded desires by taking them out on your kids. It'll be worth it someday.... ok, maybe not.

That said however, if your of the opinion that your child should match you in your designer gear then this place will provably suit you and judging by the amount of time this store has been in business, it looks like there are a few of you out there. With cool signage, funky window displays and a name that will always appeal (any Beatles related place will always have a look in) Strawberry Fields is the benchmark and elder statesman of the designer gear for kids emporiums. In fact, I think it should currently be known as BEL_IS__IMO. Hmm. Now, I wouldn't head to Bellissimo for general every day kids clothes. They sell designer kidswear, which makes it particularly good for special occasion wear. They even have christening gowns as well as a large range of confirmation dresses. (Is it just me, or are those things really freaky?!) They sell clothing ranging from birth to eight years - and this includes ranges from Lelli Kelly, Coco, Vivianne, Marco Polo, Ducky Beau and Arabella. So yes, Bellissimo Kidz do have a nice range of kids clothing - but some of it is really expensive. Maybe it's just me, but if I'm going to spend £45 on a babygrow - I'd like to do it in a shop that still has all the letters from it's name.

With a sign barely legible, it's hard to believe that it hosts prolific names such as Marco Polo and the like. If you peek through the window, it looks like the only stock it has is its Christening dresses. It has an overwhelming amount of formal kid's clothing of this nature, not to mention wee flower girl wedding frocks. They're not overly expensive but I must admit I am overpowered by the amount of these things - you could probably spend hours raking through their endless supply, trying to find one you liked for your child. Huddled in another section of the store is the designer baby boutique offerings. Some of the stock here is undeinably cute and really well priced but again, I felt like there was too much to rake through. You may find some bargains in here and if you're interested in designers for baby then it's worth a look. But I found this store a wee bit run down and a sensory overload. With a lick of paint, a new sign and a better layout Bellissimo could be so much better.

Our Little Sweethearts is a super cute children's boutique on Pollokshaws Road. They stock brands…read moresuch as Ben Sherman and Ralph Lauren for a designer child, but nothing with garish designer labels just subtle pieces which are very cute indeed. They stock clothing from ages 0 -12 so if you have a friend or family member who has just had a baby then you can get them a really cute little outfit from here. These really are special occasion clothes and are the kinds of items that you would only put on your child for a special day out at the risk of them getting covered in food or mud. They also stock a range of smart clothes for older children under 12 such as beautiful dresses for birthday parties. The shop is bright, fresh and inviting and the window displays are so sweet that it would be hard walking by without popping in if you have your own little ones.

Of course, the plan fell down when I realised that he was no longer of the age where they still order sizes by months. The clothes are cool, a little expensive but well made and stylish. The staff were very patient as I tried to work out my nephew's size, and made good suggestions even when I went on about his hobbies, in the hope that would help me. One warning: this site is one that seems to struggle. In the past few years, it has changed hands frequently- it used to be a great Green Tea shop cafe. I hope that Peace can overcome the history.

They host an eclectic assortment of clothes for children up to 8 years, from quaint looking plaid dresses to punky duds for romping tots. It's probably the only shop I've ever been to where I've seen a skull sweatband for a 2 year old, and my wee baby cousins would like the wee combat trousers and camoflage tops. My cousin recently surprised us with a baby (when I say surprised I mean she told us after she had popped Noah out) so I made an impromptu shopping expidition to buy some new baby pressies. It was a whole load of fun but whoa, the prices are steep. I bought a dummy, rompersuit and jumper and it cost my an arm and a leg - almost caught me off guard as much as her having a surprise September baby did. So if you're going to go nuts spending like I did, be prepared for the cost. But with the friendly staff and seriously cute knitted pirate jumpers, it's the kind of place you would be willing to part with money in. Maybe it's just as well I don't have a bambino just yet, as I'd probably spend more money in here, kitting my baby out to be a mini punk rocker, than buying food and prams and all that necessary nonsense! It's cool that a baby shop exists where you can find some cute and different gifts.

No, this long serving proprietor of children's goodies has been nudged up a star simply because of its name, which continues to be the best of any business in the city. Aptly situated in the historic Trongate area, this shop has now become a Glaswegian institution and continues to raise a chuckle with locals while baffling visitors on a regular basis. Party on!

While not cheap (some of the clothes are crazy dear, craaazy dear) you can rely on being the best dressed Mum or child around, if that is your priority. Tucked away down on the quite splendidly west endy Skirving Street on the South Side, this place is a quite funky wee shop with cutsey clothing, accessories and other bits and bobs for gals and babies.....there is a gentle nod to some guys stuff but really, with a name like Butterfly Kisses they aint exactly lookng to corner the man market. Anyway, this is a cute wee place with some really funky gear. Ok its a tad pricey but to be honest the gear looks to be of a high quality and its in nowhere near the same ridiculous price bracket as the west end. With a freindly and helpful owener i do hope this place is around to celebrate its second birthday come next year.....me likes.

However, be assured that there are a couple of places in there worth visiting - and Gifted Fairy is one of them. This place sells a selection of baby clothes. They deal mainly in occasion clothes - and have a lot of gorgeous dresses suitable for weddings, christenings and the like. They actually have a pretty big selection considering the size of most of the other stalls in the market. They even sell a couple of fancy dress type outfits - the kind that will make you screech to your companion "OHMIGOD THAT'S SO CUTE." In fact, I'll have to remember not to go anywhere near this place with my boyfriend....

Since I don't have any children I don't tend to frequent kids shops but visited for the first time…read moretoday in the hope I'd get my wee cousin a present. I've got to admit, the only reason I noticed this shop initially was due to the odd name...I understand that a carpet monkey is a crawling toddler but it sounds like it's trying too hard to be cool. No? I mean, who calls their kids "carpet monkeys"? How patronising! Odd choice of name aside, upon entering this shop today I felt like I was entering someone's very swanky living room! It was weird. I guess if the decor didn't evidently cost hundreds upon hundreds of pounds you could feel a little at home. If you're a yummy mummy. But I digress... The staff were friendly and there were toys to keep kids entertained. But it almost felt like, should your child perhaps make a spot of mess on the carpet, they would frogmarch you out the store! The place looked so expensive it was overbearing! And I almost had a heart attack when I looked at the shoes. 99 quid for baby boots? Are they having a laugh? Not only that, the majority of the shoes were repulsive. To me, anyway. I mean, if I was Katie Price and wanted to tart my baby up to look like she's 25, maybe. Gross. I can't even remember some of the designer brands they had on offer but I do remember the majority of the shoes being priced in at over 50 quid. They weren't all trussed up to look like boots for adults, thank God, but even the simpler, more fittingly childlike brands were pretty pricey. They had some cute knitted hats but really, for their cost just knit your own bonnet. It'd only take an hour! This shop may be suited for some mothers and dedicated followers of fashion but, should I ever become a mum, it wouldn't style my kid like that. What's the point in paying 100 pounds for wee bootsies your little munchkin will grow out of in a month? Why make your toddler look tacky? Why buy boots you will never feasibly let your kid wear? You could buy a 3 piece suite from the Sally Army for the same price these items cost. I always reiterate when the staff were nice and they were helpful, the concept's just not for me. I'm a firm believer children should be allowed to be children and, on sight of these naff prices, can only imagine this shop is geared towards the type of parents who really don't want their kids to get messy - they might ruin the carpet, after all.

Carpet Monkeys have plenty, they are a quite private little shop that is as it seems meant for those of us who have a lot of money to spend, and an extremely high expectation in what a shop can offer you. The interior is very upper class, and by that I mean it is perfect. You can actually buy shoes here from birth till 16 years old, which means they have alot of stuff, and although everything is branded and designer, I did not know some of the names. Those I did know were brands such as Converse and Moschino. Some are pretty cool and I would buy them if I had enough money to do that one day, maybe. However I get the eerie feeling that it is a footballers wife with the big four x four jeep parked out side sort of place. Having said that, all the shoes are shipped in from the best manufacturers in the world, the owner Fiona tells me they can come from as far as Italy or America. The shoes here are definitely stylish and they are definitely expensive.

It's pretty cool to see a place like this opening in Royal Exchange Square - sure, it looks just…read morelike a men's clothes shop from the outside, but inside there's also a coffee station and barber as well. I popped in for a super quick look - I was contemplating getting a coffee but then thought better of it seeing it was already late afternoon. I did notice that Papercup don't just do coffee though, there's also a small selection of cakes on offer. Forty is the clothing side of things and while it's not my kind of thing (edgy streetwear), they did have some nice stuff and tshirts. There's also Safehands Barbers so you can get a whole new look with a cut and some clothes. In this area, I can't think of any other independent coffee shops so I'd definitely pop back for a coffee next time I'm in Royal Exchange Square.

I had a quick look around, it's a nice space, clothes and sneakers downstairs, barber through the back, Papercup up front. A nice modern addition to Royal Exchange Square, the logo for the Forty range were designed by the owners kid, which is a nice touch, and I'm so happy that Papercup are now in the city centre! Definitely be back to do some shopping, and of course, get some good coffee!!
