Like many catered events like this, the highlight was the cocktail hour with both stations and passed around hors d'oeuvres. One dish was more delicious than the next. Dinner was average, nothing to write home about. Dessert was another batch of passed around, decadent bites. All in all, a wonderful evening (and the snow had stopped by the time the event was over and we got home without incident).

At our most recent event, they keep raising the price of everything due to the economy, we understood, they did not let us have extra time (even though we wanted to pay for it) because they had an event in morning, we understood. But while my guests were on the dance floor along with our children's dance group, the manager went and pulled the plug from the wall to the speakers to end the music because we were 1 minute past our contract time, that we will never understand!!! How disgusting is that!!!! Never mind the food always comes out cold and they robbed us!! They made us pay for extra meals and when the guests didn't come, I asked for those plates to donate to the shelter, and they said they didn't have them. Staff either ate them or took it home for themselves on our money. Stay away!!! Old management was amazing and human beings, this new crew is all about the money, really sad!!!

We let her know back in January 13 of 2015 that we would have a guest list of 65 and that she would work with us since the minimum was 75. She showed us two different rooms, my fiance and I let her know we wanted to use one room for the reception and the other room for the wedding ceremony. We told her our wedding date would be April 22, 2016, she told us that the dinner price would go up because of the year and month we decided on but not by much, she told us that that wouldn't be a problem since people usually don't get married on a Friday so we would be able to have both rooms, however, she told us if a bigger wedding party were to want to hold their wedding at their establishment on the same day as our wedding, we would be forced to use the smaller room for the reception and the wedding ceremony. We told her we would need to talk about this, finally my fiance and I emailed her and decided to finally put a deposit down. I emailed Margot on March 16 of 2015 and let her know that we would like to put a deposit down for April 22, 2016, Margot proceeded to tell me that that day was booked and that we would have to pick a different day even though she told us that we would've been forced to use the smaller room if someone with a bigger wedding party booked the same day as us. She also let me know that the minimum is 75 period even though she said that she would work with us because we had a wedding party of 65. I let her know that that was absurd and we decided to go with another wedding venue, she proceeded to tell me that all contracts do these types of changes and to read a contract carefully, that the minimum has change and she told us this from the beginning even though she said she doesn't want to turn business away and that she would work with us with the minimum amount of people we had. At that point I stopped emailing Margot and my fiance and I actually put a deposit down with a better establishment that won't screw us over and that because we put a deposit down that the whole place is ours period. The Matrix should know better than to do business like this, you just don't say one thing and do another thing, it's very shady. This is how you don't do business.

A spaghetti like graphic of different colored lines, sometimes running parallel to each other, sometimes crisscrossing each other like a spider web on LSD. So how do train lines manage all that switching and changes of direction without crashing into other trains? It's all computer driven today, but way back in the day things were done manually by throwing huge levers in a Switch Tower, and you can learn all about it and see the 100+ year old equipment in this very cool free museum. The museum is on three stories, and you have to walk up a metal staircase all the way to the top because that's where the tour starts. Our guide on the 3rd floor was John and he was fantastic. We saw the gigantic old switches, and he did a great job explaining the technology of the day and how it changed over the years. Next, we walked down to the second floor where Joe took over and he explained the switches and system in deeper detail. Finally, we walked down to the gift shop on the first floor with all sorts of railroad memorabilia, mugs, and hats are available for sale. John and Joe are volunteers, and their love of trains was quite evident. If you like learning about how mechanical things work, or you have a train buff in your family, you really can't go wrong with a visit to this niche museum.

Having worked in the wedding business most of my life I've been to hundreds of weddings. My father was a wedding photographer and I was a wedding planner at a venue. The bathroom was spotless and the venue was perfectly decorated for the holidays. More than anything, the staff was incredibly attentive, not just to the bride and groom, but to the guests. At the end of the reception, my friends and I couldn't get an Uber or a cab to go back to the hotel. The staff was genuinely concerned and helpful. We finally found an uber to come to pick us up but it was more than anything hour, staff were so kind and patient. Really impressive.

Still, it's a quaint old structure, built in the 1600's when Newtown was first becoming a town. In fact, decades ago, The entire building was moved back a few dozen feet to make room for Main Street. Yeah, it's that old :). It was a lovely place for our friends to host their wedding. It's located right at the iconic flagpole that marks the center of Newtown. So when you burst out those front doors, married to your new spouse, filled with glee and joy, all of Newtown, Connecticut will be watching.

During the planning process, our coordinators maintained transparent communication with us and were extremely responsive to our ongoing questions, concerns, and changes. They helped organize with our other vendors (DJ, photographer, etc.), and provided meaningful advice and guidelines every step of the way - from selecting our menu to choosing venue décor and even providing advice as to how to word our invitations. Couches lines the walls upstairs and down so there was plenty of seating. There was also a bar both upstairs and downstairs that you could use as well as bathrooms. Food was very tasty and enjoyable. I'd definitely attend another event here!
