As far as the appointments, though, something was off and a little fishy. He had said one tooth had too many fillings and it needed a veneer so I did that and it was a huge amount of money. I think it was around $800. After that I had problems with the tooth and he said it could've been a hairline fracture or it could need a cap and he was ready to schedule an appointment for that. Not only that is he pointed out that I had about three teeth with cavities in it. I also asked him to shave down my teeth and some areas from some bad fillings. I had gotten previously from a different dentist and he never did that for me. I decided to go to Kendall Rhodes associates. They didn't find any of the cavities. There was nothing wrong with the tooth that he wanted to fix a hairline fracture for. Not only that is on a very first appointment the dentist smooth out my fillings without me having to ask, she knows it and said how terrible and just went into it. I'm blown away. I want to believe that this is a good dentist and that money isn't a contributing factor to the decisions he made on my teeth. But I'm having a really hard time justifying all the money that I've spent. I'm very thankful I went to another dentist where I feel like they aren't just trying to milk my money.

I would recommend anyone to come in for general/complex cosmetic work, repairs, and especially assessments which are very thorough. Furthermore, the office is very understanding on the financial side as well. Apart from reasonable pricing, I was able to set up a monthly plan to pay off my bill over time which I am not used to seeing elsewhere. To start my dentist Dr. Lynda Benedetto has always taken care of me with great care and caution when I had work done on my teeth. She carefully injects novocaine into my gums after numbing them with gel first, and I never feel any pain. Afterall who wants to feel that pinch when getting shot up in your gums! Not me. Karin is my go to person when it comes to my regular check up and cleaning. She is the only one I trust who can work on my teeth gently since I have really sensitive teeth. She doesn't torture me with those God awful tools they use to scrape your teeth! Thank you Karin for being a great dental hygienist :) The facility itself is very clean and well kept. I pay extra from my insurance so I can keep coming here, and it's worth every penny! My days of searching for a good dentist were long gone once I found Dr. B! (Please note that other comments below are about OTHER dentists and not about Dr. Cowan!) Why do I say 'best'? Dr. Cowan has a very deft touch. He is careful but sure. He is confident, but meticulous. One example: When using a drill, he will lightly touch the place on your tooth he is going to address, before spinning up the tool. Sort of like a practice swing in golf. Then, he applies the tool with a confidence you can feel. He is always very tuned in to any discomfort you may experience. One of the things I like best, is that he tells you what he's going to do next so that nothing comes as a surprise. It's impossible to ask, "How much longer?" Or, "What is the next step?" He knows this and answers the question before you have to ask. He is also aware that insurance plans are all over the map so he has always explained what sort of work I need done - and might need, and then advises that I work with the staff in the front office to figure out a game plan. And the staff are really nice, from the front office to the hygienist to the dental assistants. All of them capable and experienced and have all been working as a team in a way that makes every visit run smooth and any procedure devoid of anxiety. After a decade of regular work (root canal, cavities, crowns, and even an implant), I am a strong advocate.... So much so that when my (soon to be 90!) father moved to Santa Barbara, I did not hesitate to make this recommendation. Thanks for the crummy teeth, Dad!
