We are staying at Domaine de Fontanille, and were so excited to learn that in addition to their…read moreMichelin star rated restaurant, they also have a more casual bistro. We ate dinner there last night, and loved the tapas-sharing-style menu, where nothing was more than 15 euros, and every dish was perfectly balanced, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. They advise 5 savory dishes to share, and 2 sweet, so we enjoyed: Soft boiled egg- came in a huge bowl of creamy something, with julienned veg on top, and some kind of cured or smoked fish on the bottom. This dish was hard to remember, but amazing at the time. Marinated beef- this was so good I ordered it again for lunch today, and I DIDN'T SHARE. Raw marinated Asian style thick but delicate slices of beef, with a basil pesto and the most delicious anchovy based sauce. Even my husband who hates "fishy" things went nuts for this dish. Seared tuna- another win, with a light sweet curry sauce on buttery crunchy toast. Crab salad- with a cauliflower purée and thin slices of cauliflower, this was light and refreshing. Tempura artichoke- with awesomesauce. No really, the sauce was full of bright Mediterranean flavors, sundries tomatoes, olives, just amazing, and the artichoke was lightly battered, fresh, perfect. I would happily eat the same meal again for days on end. We also enjoyed a bottle of the house rose, which was light, crisp, and went perfectly with our meal. It was also a refreshing 25 euro, and the meal itself was very reasonably priced, even with two drinks, five dishes, and a dessert. If you're in the area, I cannot recommend staying here and enjoying all the food they have to offer enough. This place is a little slice of French heaven.

L'Arôme - Breast of Duck stuff with Foie Graf and root vegetables in a deep reduction, served with mashed potatoes and ratatouille.

Making our dining experience excellent if nothing else, the ambience is truly an excellent expression of a step back in time with all modern accoutrements. If you ever plan on visiting this small, quaint village in Provence L'Arôme is a stop on your bucket list for dinning at least several times to enjoy quality food, service and ambiance

We started with a bottle of local red from Chateau les Eydins and it was the perfect recommendation. So much so that we stopped at the Chateau on our way out of town for a magnum to bring home. Next up was the Tuna Tartare which was original and impressive. Then on to the main meal of Filet with Foie Gras for my husband and the beloved Lobster Risotto for myself. It was decadent, it was heavenly and I cannot wait to come back. Even for lunch, it was a bit pricey but who can put a price tag on such an outstanding meal. If you're in the Luberon region, spend some time wondeBonnieux and do not miss L'Arome.
