This place blew my mind! They didnt have udon noodles and they made their noodles specifically as close to udon as they possibly could just for me! It was beyond amazing. Their sushi is one of the best ive had in northern California. I personally grew up in Okinawa, Japan and this had the closest tasting food ive had in northern California, even better than the one place i went too in Japan town in San Francisco. 1. Background info / disclaimer: I'm not a local and ate (got take out) at this semi-dump while on a road trip. 2. Here are my brief thoughts after one meal here: a: I placed the order online and specifically requested to have some forks / plates. When I went to pick up the order (which was done quickly), the lady (the most sour person I've experienced) when questioned about the forks noted "it's all in there". b: When I got back to the hotel, there of course were no forks, no chopsticks, no plates; luckily, I have some extra plastic forks with me and tore apart the take out containers for makeshift plates. c: Furthermore, I ordered shrimp fried rice; what I received was vegetable fried rice. d: The mongolian beef was decent, but it was comprised of 80% onions and 20% beef (no joke). e: The sushi (I ordered 2 rolls) were passable; a grade above Safeway sushi. 3. In summary, when in Ukiah, I would advise to avoid this place. It's unfortunate that in this day and age, that common decency and attention to basic details is still a rarity among certain restaurants. read more

This is for sure in the top two Chinese restaurants in Ukiah. My boyfriend loves their General Chicken, which he is fairly picky about. I am a vegetarian, so I get their tofu dishes (tofu with orange sauce is my favorite so far), and love that they make the tofu crispy. Yum! read more

I just bought this food I got the lotus dinner for 2, I don't complain about food, but this is the worse Chinese food I have ever had. The sweet sour chicken and pork were mostly breading and had bones in it. This reminds me of food that has been microwaved not freshly fried. I was really hoping to give a good review. Have been a bit obsessed with their sushi for the past month after rediscovering this somewhat hidden gem of a Chinese/Japanese eatery here in Ukiah! From their inviting and accommodating chef to the warm and welcoming atmosphere, the Lotus is also a comfortable and enjoyable environment in which to partake in the all out flavor explosions that are sure to ensue when experiencing their sushi! The Cashew veggie roll in basil sauce is an absolute must--with its layers of flavor and the beautiful artistry that goes into the creation of these rolls it is sure to impress! The Ukiah roll is also a creation sure to elicit oohs and ahhhhs similar to that classic restaurant scene from "When Harry Met Sally". If it's simple flavors you're looking for, the saki sashimi has a sweet, rich and buttery flavor that only the freshest raw salmon can possess and literally melts in your mouth! No need for soy sauce or wasabi as the fresh flavors are a treat enough for this selection! Every roll we have tried has been consumed quickly and enjoyed thoroughly to the "I'll have what she's having" degree! Where do you go at 8 o'clock on a Saturday if you don't want pub food or chain restaurant slop? On June 18, 2011, I called and asked if they were open, and was told they were open until 10. Our party of three arrived and found a pleasantly decorated store front restaurant that has both Japanese and Chinese food. The Sizzling Rice soup had generally typical ingredients (shrimp, chicken, some vegetables, and of course sizzling rice) in a well-flavored broth with the addition of cilantro. Potstickers were crispy on the bottom and the noodle was properly cooked. The ground meat filing was also good, Green bean chicken had perfectly cooked green beans and chicken in a very light, slightly spicy, sauce. Our friend had the owner recommended fiery dragon roll, which was spicy tuna, eel, avocado, tempura which came on a plate and actually was shaped to resemble a dragon. Our last dish was tempura shrimp and vegetables. There were three or four shrimp (hard to remember the exact number since it was so good it disappeared very fast) , carrots, zucchini, green beans. The tempura batter was excellent -- very light, very crispy, and not oily. The owner's English was somewhat difficult to understand, but we thought he said he came from New York, and does all the Chinese cooking but not the Japanese (he has a Sushi chef). This was the worst meal I've ever been served in a dining establishment. My boyfriend and I couldn't take more than a bite of his grease soaked chow mein or Mongolian beef. The rice was old and soup hot and sour soup was off-putting. The lack of care for quality and customer satisfaction was extremely disappointing. Would not recommend. read more

While on a visit to Ukiah, we tried lunch at the Lotus and found it to be quite good. We ordered edamame beans, pot stickers, Almond Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and an order of sashimi. The portions were reasonable, but the food was on the pricier side for lunch. We recommend carefully checking your bill at the end of the meal as they tried to overcharge us almost $20.00 as everything is handwritten and subject to "math errors." read more

Haven't been here in over a year. Right when we walk in we are told there is no Sushi. A bit of a bummer, but love their sizzling rice soup. The kid gets the orange chicken lunch special. The soup comes rice in it already and is pretty much a bowl of boiled meat and veggies, the prawns were basically two little shrimp, horrible! The kid gets a piece of fish instead of chicken covered in orange sauce, by time she found out, it was too late. The service was horrible, had to go up to counter and ask for cups of ice to go witchy he warm sodas we were given. Both ended up with food poisoning, upset stomach and diarrhea. What a bummer, Ukiah is limited when it comes to SUSHI and I drove over and hour to get a horrible meal. Will not be returning. read more

I've been coming here for 3 years...and it's only getting better! Consistently outstanding: Everything super fresh and beautifully presented. I typically avoid a restaurant that offers both Chinese and Japanese cuisine, but the Lotus is definitely the exception that proves the rule--There's no attempt at "fusion"--the two traditional cuisines each have their own (comprehensive) menus. The sushi is perfectly done, the teriyaki light and delicate, soups are wonderful (especially my favorite, the War Wonton). Finally, the owners are unfailingly polite and gracious. Walking through the door should have been my first clue...it smelled moldy and unpleasant. The 'waiter' (dirty apron and t-shirt) did not impress and was nice, but not particularly friendly...we ordered two different dishes of chow mein, a 'standard' chow mein with shrimp and the 'house special' chow mein with shrimp. There was no disernable difference between the two other than the chicken & shrimp. Lots of noodles and a couple small pieces of cabbage. The Egg Foo Young was covered with gravy with some peas on top. I didn't have the opportunity to taste the Egg Foo Young or the sushi, but we all left very disappointed. We're not from Ukiah and I hope there are some Chinese/Japanese restaurants in town, although this was recommended by a waitress in another restaurant this is on our permanent do not visit list. read more

This is the first 1 star review I've ever given - I looked at Yelp reviews and I was stoked there was some "decent" Chinese food here in Ukiah per the Yelp reviews, however it was NOT GOOD - it was gross - I've had a lot of Chinese food in my life and this was by far the worst - my partner and I ordered the Lotus Dinner, Chinese dinner for two. The hot and sour soup was okay, egg rolls okay, fried rice was flavorless, and the sweet and sour pork and sweet and sour chicken were yuck and mostly thick breading soaked in bright red sweet and sour sauce. We ordered take out. The price was too much for the amount and quality we got. The service was insanely fast and the staff was friendly, but I would never recommend it to anyone wanting decent Chinese food and we will not go back again sadly. read more

First visit here, was a little worried that we were the only customers. There is no music in the restaurant... we felt like we had to whisper the whole time. Decent service, but my boyfriend's food came out about 5-7 minutes before mine so he ate, then I ate. The food was good for the most part. He had broccoli beef and I got two sushi rolls. The rolls fell apart when trying to pick them up but were delicious. Will do take out from here, but not done in again. read more

Despite the outside looking older, the inside is amazing. It's extremely well up kept and the interior design is immaculate. The only workers are the owners who are amazing cooks/sushi chefs. The owners (husband and wife) are extremely nice. The only thing is my water cup was a little foggy. But that's fine by me. The food and service was impeccable. read more

I've eaten here a lot over the past and the food is really really good, the best in ukiah i would say for chinese. they have a great lunch menu average around the $7-$10 range. most the time when you drive by they look closed (there open) for how good the food is hear I would think more foot traffic during lunch. the staff though strongly lacks. I've had quite a lot of bad experiances with them in the past from talking to someone while I was the only one there( to eat ). just bullshitting away for 15 min I finally just yelled across the restaurant what I wanted to eat . other times they try to predict what it is your ordering while your naming things and end up writing those on your ticket so you end up with things that you didn't order. you have to be real clear about what you want and have them repeat it back or whatever method you want. once I was with a friend one evening, they have a menu that is 2 for $20 ($10 a person) which is good so we order what we wanted but when the tab comes its $50 on top of that when I'm paying the bill he holds out his hand and says tip? I was floored, infuriated I stopped eating there for 2 years. I don't see that tip guy in there anymore but the servers are still lacking in customer service. the only reason I even go back though is the food its just that damn good. read more
