I love Tate! I got a deal on Living Social for an hour massage and boy was I lucky to find it! My bff went on yelp to look up a good therapist for me because she loves me and because we went for a massage when I first got down to SD and it was a huge disappointment! I digress. So my bff set up an appt w Tate for me. First off, I came in late because traffic at 5 pm in SD is a horror story! I was 15 mins late but Tate welcomed and was completely understanding. He even tried to make me feel better by talking about how he was in some bad traffic this morning! Then after my paperwork he led me into my room and sat down with me to discuss what areas I have been having problems with and offered to concentrate on those areas or to perform a full body with deeper pressure around my areas of concern! I have my problem areas but I don't like to neglect the rest! Full body option please! When Tate started I instantly could feel skill in his technique! I had been high strung from the ride there and in 2 mins or so he had me off on my way to serenity!!! Tate has many years of experience in so many area! Yoga teacher?! Educated in holistic nutritional approach to healing! I love a man with great hands and good head on his shoulders! Try Tate once and I guarantee you will be hooked! GUARATEED! So read more

I had my first acupuncture session with Monica for my injured elbow, and I already feel some relief. She's so warm, caring, and truly knows what she's doing. Her presence is very calming, and I left feeling better and more hopeful. Looking forward to continuing! read more

I've been visiting Monica for several years for micro needling and am really happy with her services. She is knowledgeable about a wide range of Chinese medicines and holistic health practices, in addition to more standard cosmetic practices. I appreciate her desire to heal more than skin deep issues, and she does great with the skin deep services as well! read more

OMG. This is literally a hidden gem. I almost missed getting here. It is this super tiny place that is on the second floor of a commercial building, and at first you think it's nondescript but the moment you walk in, you are welcomed by the owners who are extremely warm and pleasant. The inside of their facility is beautiful and homey. You are welcome to have a cup of tea while you wait for you appointment or class (they offer massages, pilates, and yoga!!!). They have a one week free trial for hatha/vinyasa flow yoga and the yoga IS yoga...not your stereotypical, break a sweat-type, modern "yoga" that seems so prevalent these days. I haven't experienced this type of yoga in years. My instructor was helpful, peaceful, and very talented. Challenging poses were extremely doable and modifications were available if needed. Because this place is so hidden, classes are small...which I LOVE because I can get all the attention and modifications I need. Plus, they offer Iyengar yoga, which I've been meaning to try for a long time. And they have the best deal...$59 monthly for unlimited yoga. Who does that??? Unfortunately, most of their classes are offered during the day which is when I work...and they're too far away for me to go to on a daily basis (as in, I'd miss their classes because of traffic and I get out too late from work). They only had a few yoga classes that I could easily fit into my schedule, which is a bummer because I love this place. Anyone who wants a trendy, high-powered workout might be disappointed with this place but for the rest...highly recommended. And just based on the other reviews here, I think I might try out their other services, too! :D read more

Carl Balingit is an amazing healer. I've been seeing acupuncturist for 10+ years. A friend of mine referred me to Carl and I have to admit, his skills as an acupuncturist goes well beyond the normal. I had no idea what I was missing with my previous acupuncturist. So if you want the norm, continue seeing whoever it is your seeing, but if you want exceptional, then I say this is the guy for you. read more

Been coming here for yoga about 3-4 years. Had to take over a year off due to back surgery. I love this place. Everyone is great. The classes are wonderful, start on time, and you get a great stretch. I love Yumi! She is an amazing yogi and person. read more

A one stop inner-outer balancing shop! I've been going for yoga, and loving the small class sizes. They also offer pilates, acupuncture, and massage, and I can't wait to treat myself to some of those services. read more

I bought a Groupon for an hour massage here and when I looked up where it was located I thought, "I'm sorry, it's located where?!" How can a place named a "sanctuary" be located right next to one of the busiest roads I know? However, I was extremely surprised as soon as I walked in. The actual location is right above the sushi restaurant next to Lucha Libre's but you'd never know from inside. The reception area is very peaceful and quiet. After the usual paperwork I was shown to the waiting area where there was a nice comfy couch and complimentary tea/water. For my actual appointment I had Dan. He was very pleasant and professional. Sometimes I find that massages can bit a little awkward in the beginning but there was no awkwardness at all. He was very calming and attentive to my problems, making sure that I was comfortable the whole time. After a loooonnnggg work week the massage was exactly what I needed. I would definitely come back here and request him! Also, if you check-in using Yelp you get $20 off a massage! More of a reason to come back! read more

As with the many of the other patrons commenting on yelp, I discovered this place through Groupon. I needed a deep tissue massage, and had a great session with Sherry. I think one of the other reviewers mentioned that the therapists are there independent contractors, so you mileage may vary. I cannot speak to the performance of the other therapists, only that sherry did a great job. They are located in mission hills, right by the luche libre taco shop and bar dynamite. I think they are also above a popular sushi restaurant. The main reason I mention this is because these three shops, plus some residential apartments all share the same parking lot, and as anyone who knows the area will tell you, parking in mission hills is kind of sucky. that being said, every time I went (early weekends) I was able to find a spot, but it was usually the only free spot. I can see it being a problem at other times in the day. I do like the fact that they are open on the weekends. That convenience alone is enough to ensure my repeat business. The space itself is nice and calming, but not overly luxurious. A tiny reception area in the front. the studios are clean and reasonably quiet. Before the session, we sat down, had a quick minute discussion about what problem areas to work on, what I was hoping to get out of therapy. It's a small, but nice touch that many other massage therapists don't do. The massage itself was great. Sherry was professional, and reassuring. I can't say i'm qualified to judge what makes a good deep tissue massage, other than to say I felt great after. The endorphines really kicked in. I was half asleep even before the massage was over, and I had "just massaged" feeling for a few days after. It really made working hunched over a keyboard much more bearable. All in all, I would rate everything about the Lotus Sanctuary as 5 Stars, except for the parking situation, which really only merits a half star deduction. read more

I found Lotus Sanctuary on Groupon where they had really good deal on a massage. A a previous caller called it a "Hidden Gem" and it really is. Inside the atmosphere is very calming and welcoming. Everyone who was coming out of the rooms all seemed happy and relaxed. I booked a massage with Tate and I was not disappointed. He worked on my problem areas ( back and shoulders) and did an amazing job. I will definitely book again. =) read more

My husband and I just received 90 minute massages here from Jody and Laura. The massage I had from Jody was probably the best work I've had done in my life! I was so completely relaxed that I had a hard time talking afterwards. I felt like jello! Laura did a great job with my husband and incorporated wonderful essential oils into his massage, she was very strong which is awesome because he has very dense, tight muscles. We will definitely be back!! read more

This is the best yoga studio ever, so amazing. The instructor, Miss Yumiko, is so professional, nice, pleasant and she knows her job so well. I never worked with such a great instructor; after every class, I feel two inches taller. Every muscle in your body gets attention!!!! There are also two different teachers for Vinyasa and they're awesome too. I recommend this place wholeheartedly!! You get a week of free yoga, plus, it's so affordable!!! I love this place!!!! All of my girlfriend tried it free for a week and decided to stay! read more

I got the holiday special of one month unlimited yoga for $39 when I moved into the neighborhood. Since then I have tried beginning/intermediate yoga with Yumiko and vinyasa flow yoga with Kristina. I also received a free private pilates reformer session with Yumiko. All classes have been great and seem to compliment one another. Yumiko and Mark welcome me in every time and make me feel at home. The studio is small but warm and inviting. This is a very good place for beginners (non-intimidating) and advanced people as well. You can tell the instructors have been doing this a long time and know their stuff, but they offer all levels of practice. I'm hoping to try a massage someday soon, as it sounds wonderful! read more

I just recently bought a groupon for a deep tissue massage. I have been getting massages for years and have never received such a poor massage before. I would never recommend this place for a real massage. Massage envy even has better massages than this place. A total waste of $39! read more

I really liked Lotus Sanctuary. I found this place through Groupon, I'm very glad I bought it! My massage therapist was Sherry. She was very nice, professional and, I have to say, the only massage therapist that actually took my knots OUT and the pain away! The service is great, I will go back for sure. Thanks Groupon! :) read more

I've been going to yoga with Yumi for about a month now and I absolutely love her classes! She does a more gentle flow with a lot of different stretches that I had never done before and even though the classes are similar she always does something to make it interesting. I also started taking semi-private pilates reformer sessions with Yumi and I love them too! She's just a great teacher and knows just how much to push me. I love the way I feel after my sessions. Yumi gave me a week of free classes to try her and also a free pilates session before I decided to join. It's $59 a month for unlimited yoga classes which is by far the most reasonable price in San Diego. I had been searching for a place I could afford to join and this was the best deal for my money. The pilates sessions are also reasonable at $35 a session and it's great to get some one-on-one attention and focus. I haven't yet had a massage but plan to in the future. I also love how right away everyone knew my name and was so inviting and friendly. It's a great studio! Barbara M. Back to Life Massage & Bodywork http://www.backtolifemassagesd.com read more

Working at a desk, sitting in my car. Life's requirements are not good on the body. Jodi, or as I affectionately call her, "Dr. Lotus" knows how to find the deepest, nastiest knots in your body and gets them out. I feel amazing every time she works on me. Highly recommended! read more

I found this place on groupon and was able to purchase 2 massages at a very discounted price. I had an incredible massage, and being a massage therapist myself, I knew that my therapist knew what he was doing. It is definitely a great place to unwind. The atmosphere is very zen and I loved how they have those soft pads on to of the tables so you fee like you're laying on a cloud! My 1 hr session felt like a few hours of relaxed muscles (which is quite rare for me). I already have my next appointment book and can't wait to try out the different styles. read more

Positive, patient, and perceptive are just a few of Miss Yumiko Asamizu's qualities as a yoga instructor. It was my first time at the studio and I was greeted so warmly by him and the front desk. the massage was a perfect blend of deep tissue with a little lymphatic massage and I felt so great and it began my week off perfectly. Highly recommend Tate and will be going back! read more

This place is wonderful! It is unlike other yoga studios where you feel like it's a competition. This place is much more laid back. People from every age group, sex, and physical ability level work out here, so you don't feel silly if you can't hold the balancing pose or your downward dog isn't perfect. The teachers are excellent. Especially Yumi. She knows everyone's name by heart. The other day I was lucky enough to be the only person that showed up to one of the classes. At first I was nervous, but Yumi immediately put me at ease. She even tailored the workout especially for me and my hurt shoulder. So happy to have found this place! read more

Love Yumiko's yoga classes! They are not too easy and not too hard - just right. And this lady knows a lot of poses! They are relaxing and doable, a relief after trying another huge "hot" yoga studio that I didn't care for. Her classes have got me going to yoga regularly, which I haven't done in a long, long time. Moreover, she is so sweet and welcoming; that keeps me coming back as well. The atmosphere is very peaceful with beautiful music playing at low volume. Class size is small. Highly recommended! read more

I just took up yoga and Yumi is the best yoga teacher! She pays attention to every student. She offers classes every day except Sundays and her rates are very reasonable. If you've been to those massive classes at the "Y" you'll appreciate the personal touch of this small neighborhood studio at the foot of Mission Hills, near the Lucha Libre taco shop. Lotus Sanctuary has other spa services as well, but for now I'm focused on yoga. read more

All I've got to say is....excellent massage from Sherry. I'd never had a deep tissue massage the same way she did. Her technique is unexpected but very rewarding. I walked out of there feeling like I had a new back. My whole inner being got a boost from her massage. It's been awhile since that has happened. The location is no frills but works well because of the free parking, and the price is right. I would recommend Sherry to anyone wanting a great massage. read more

I visited many massage places before but with Laura's one hour deep tissue massage for the first time I think someone has addressed the muscle problem in my back. This combined with her use of oil and herbs as was an amazing experience I would recommend. read more

I love this place. And Tate is amazing. I go about every 4-6 weeks for an hour massage and I always come out of it relaxed and feeling like Tate addressed all of my bad spots perfectly. I typically go in the evenings after work/school so the parking lot can be full from the restaurant on the ground floor. But as soon as I walk in it is quiet and calm. The prices are typical if a little lower for massages in the area. I cant imagine going anywhere else. read more

Lotus Sanctuary is staffed, according to their website, by a "group of independent practitioners," a worthy business model but one that can breed failure to communicate with clients. In my case, I left a half-dozen message over about six weeks before finally being called back. If I hadn't already purchased a Groupon, they certainly would have lost my business. That said, owner Jodi Ketchum was very nice when she finally got back with me and had no problem redeeming a Groupon that had technically expired at the end of December. My masseuse Sherry was pleasant, did a fine job reducing my gym-sore body to jelly, and even went about 10 minutes over the hour allotted. This certainly isn't the fault of LS, but both Google and Yahoo map sites give you WILDLY inaccurate directions for addresses on Washington Street up in Hillcrest, not WEST Washington, which is right off I-5. Call them for proper directions. I'm docking them a star for poor phone coverage (other reviews have mentioned the same issue), but beyond that I recommend putting yourself into their capable hands. read more
